Does Sonic Team count as part of that? Because pretty much their only good game was the OG Sonic the Hedgehog. The rest were shit. I guess Nights was okay.

The American and Japanese branches were at some eternal war.
The closest thing as a period of peace was when they were getting richer because Europeans liked the Master System.
With the Genesis the war got worse and worse till they successfully killed the company.

Kind of. There were enough sense in the leadership to properly exploit the potential of the Genesis and make it a kickass competing product, and one of the best gaming machines of all time, but there was a lot of bad fumbling, too.

The Saturn could theoretically have done at least decently, at the very LEAST as well as the Nintendo 64 (for whatever that's worth), but it was handled just awfully.
The Dreamcast would have done really well, and it actually had a really good start, that was genuinely a good console with a lot of remaining potential, but then Sega's big mistakes finally caught up with them for good and they ran out of money, so that party was just over.

Which is absurd, because Americans and Europeans would seem to love the Genesis just as much as the SNES, they struck absolute gold and then went out of their way to squander it.

Maybe if Sega had kept up, Nintendo wouldn't be the COMPLETELY soulless husk that it is today...
