Occasionally I’ll say something here like “I beat [the game] with a lot of savescumming”.Someone else will chime in saying “You didn’t beat the game”.I know that, deep down, the other guy is right. But I still want to convey that I at least played through the entire game and basically saw it all, even if I didn’t get good enough to actually beat it properly. How can I say this — ideally without a huge text dump — without pissing off that kind of guy?Pic related because I played Zero Wing and had to savescum a lot around this one passage to get by it and I was gonna ask here if, memes or not, the game was bullshit
>>12134039>You didn’t beat the gameplease dont fall for this meme OP have some self-respect
You beat the game on your own terms.
>>12134046ehhhhhhhI got to the final boss on my SNES for Super Ghouls and Ghosts and, a couple decades later, savescummed all the way through and beat the guy with even more savescummingThat _might_ be valid but let’s say it isn’t because I’m a fan of purism even though I definitely don’t measure upbut “beating” Zero Wing in a couple hours with a lot of rewinding? the other guy is definitely right in that I didn’t even try to beat the game, and, in fact, did not “beat” the game — merely played through it
>>12134078Okay, you played through it. What do you want, a handjob or something?
The question should be, why do you care about whether you "beat the game" or not?
Zero wing on MD isn't too bad to playthrough on easy. Hard, however, is near impossible once you get to level 5.
I don't give a fuck about "beating" anything except my meat. I play games to relax, not to stress out more than I already do irl.
What you say!?

>>12134042>>12134046>>12134098>>12134123You stupid idiot nothing creatures. OP asked a specific question:>How can I say this — ideally without a huge text dump — without pissing off that kind of guy?OP did not say "these guys say I didn't beat the game but I did" or "I'm really worried about whether I beat the game". OP asked how to SAY that OP played through the game without "beating" it. Retards. Just worthless retards. Read what other people say when you're conversing.OP, "I played through [game name]" is maybe the best you're going to do I think. If people assume you meant you played through it without cheating, it's probably okay right? And if they notice your odd phrasing and question you, then you can say, as briefly and humbly as possible, that you used save states or whatever, and at this point you probably have to explicitly acknowledge that you did not beat it in order to preemptively disarm that kind of guy. But it won't always work of course; he'll still trashtalk you sometimes. I don't think you can make it always work.I've run into this same issue in cases where I want to talk about the story of a story-heavy game that I haven't even played with cheating, or at all, because I watched it on YouTube. Watching it fully qualifies me to comment on the story in most cases, and partly qualifies me to comment on the gameplay, but I can't even say I played through it. In those cases I just... don't mention how I know the details of the game.(I can smell that guy coming to feast on my post, so I will specify that I'm actually better than he is at games, and I do more than my share of hardcore playing IN ADDITION to watching certain games on YouTube because they were interesting enough to look into in depth but not interesting enough to actually bother playing. This will not be enough for that guy. In the end, nothing is.)
>>12134039No, save states means you didn't truly beat it, but that's if you care. I think it matters, but I don't get mad at those who don't. Having said all that, I just beat pic related a week ago finally without cheating after all these decades. The secret, that I never appreciated as a boy, was to treat the last boss as a game of Galaxian. It makes it easier that way to deal with, the stress of it I mean. It felt good and surreal as well to beat it after all this time. More proof that kids aren't better at games, at least generally.
>>12134039>had to savescum a lot around this one passageDoes it happen to be the one that's impossible to do if you got more than 2 speed power ups, because you move too far no matter how lightly you press the d-pad? I had to savescum that shit the first time I played it too. I can do it without savescumming now though.
>>12134541>I want to talk about the story of a story-heavy game that I haven't even played with cheating, or at all, because I watched it on YouTube
>“I beat [the game] with a lot of savescumming”If you used the game's actual built-in save feature then that's fine. The devs put it there to be used. You beat the game.If you used a save state on an emulator 30 years after the game came out then you're using an external resource that is not part of the game so that could certainly be considered not beating the game "for real".
>>12134781reality doesn't matter to subjective tards
>>12134039no i too savescummed to beat this game to only find out that after you beat it it just loops back around to the first stage and is harder. I don't think this game was ever meant to be beaten.
>>12134541well what's there to say other than that that guy is a retard if he doesn't think that? now it's fair to say that op had a different experience from people who didn't use save scumming, and it's not as interesting to play like that, but that's a different argument to make. and faggots like him oft prefer simple and easy catchphrases instead of proper arguments.>>12134654nah it makes sense, sometimes that gets you into other series'. so long as you eventually play them anyway.
>>12134541lay off the adderall
>>12134039Just say you played through the game with savestates, instead of saying you beat it.>>12134541The problem is that it ruins discussion. People will say X game is their favorite, but it turns out they played it with romhacks, savestates, hd texture packs, macros and whatever else. They will say a game is shit but they played the HD remake that removes all difficulty, changes mechanics, adds a new translation and whatever else. In your case, watching a game where a character leaves the party feels different emotionally than having that character leave with your items while you were leveling him up as an important member of your team. A hard boss has a bigger emotional impact than one you watched, and replaying the fight over and over affects the pacing differently from: watching a cutscene, watching a single instance of the fight, then watching the next cutscene. Gameplay then definitely affects the story experience and you're not qualified to discuss it without disclaimers that you didn't play it.

>>12134039you should do what you enjoy not what some other dude wants you to enjoyunless... that is what you enjoy
>>12134039Yes, you beat the game. Yes, the other guy is just a kid trying to get you upset. That's all. Play with guides if you want, it's more enjoyable than wasting hours just to find out you missed out on a ton of stuff and if you're not a NEET, you'll likely want to get as much content as possible from a single playthrough - unless the game requires several playthroughs to see everything, like YU-NO.
>>12137267you didn't beat the tard
>>12134039Ngl what the other guy says doesn't really dignify a response. You already said "i beat it -- with savescumming" so you already acknowledged you didn't properly beat the game, and him beating you over the head with it is his problem, not yours.
>>12134039You completed the game. “Beating” the game is an American term. You completed the experience
