which version should I play? everyone says the ds content sucks but... a post game dungeon is surely better than nothing at all? is there any downside to emulating DS over snes? is the music quality the same? Ive played the game once before but it was on ps1 back when FF chronicles came out

cool you made your decision, why are you asking?

>a post game dungeon is surely better than nothing at all?

Chrono Trigger DS is going to make you regret that decision, but it's still worth playing. You can just not do the extra stuff, it's fine.

I'd put the DS version above the SNES version just for a few cleaned-up translations, but it's not a big difference at all. Emulate whichever one you can find most easily.
>>
GBA version has the better translation, if you haven't played it before and have some autistic fixation on the old shitty one, go with that.

>GBA

Snes era rpgs bad dog shit translations, the only people who defend them are nostalgia fags. If they really cared about the author’s original vision they would tell you to avoid the terrible English translations.
Ds has a far more accurate translation. It’s the obvious choice.

But what happens once you romhack the snes to have the same translation
>>

The Chrono Cross connections added to the PSX and DS versions are shit. Play the SNES version.

Then you play the same game with less content I guess. Some of the extra content is utter dogshit but you can get cool carryover to newgame+ weapons better than what was in the original game since for example Frog's ultimate weapon doesn't carry over and also an ending encyclopedia so you can keep track of what endings you've seen in the DS verison.

But what about the bonus dungeon that lets you use frost arc on a recolor of Heckran to recreate the cover art
>>
>>12134079
I'd definitely go with the nds one. If nothing else the bottom screen is a big QOL bonus. I personally really like the psx movies too, nice little addition.

Having the bottom menu available during atb battles is cool as fuck. These little complaints about the translation just arent going to impact your experience at all. The only reason to look at a different port is if you're not playing on a dual screen devicc.
>>
>>12134079
The extra content is a s s but if you're ignoring that or saving it for postgame after you temper your expectations then NDS is more than a viable way to play.
>>
>>12134079
Playing a DS game on anything other than a DS sounds like complete ass so if you don't have one I say go with SNES.
>>
>>12134079
The DS version is the best and not all the extra content is garbage, you finally get to see the singing mountain and also what happened to Schala. The rest stick out like a sore thumb and you can easily dodge it.

don't remind me

Exactly, there is one place that quickly becomes boring, slow bullshit (lost sanctum) but the rest is actually pretty short, fun and sweet like all other game dungeons.

SNES

If you say so.

SNES or Steam.
I beat it on PSX as a kid and the disc load times suck. Steam version also has the DS stuff, but costs $15.

SNES, the additions are fanfic-tier

The SNES translation IS fanfic tier.

There are words for "bad" other than "dogshit", FYI

Come on dude. Doing something bad is worse than having that time left free. Of course you have the option to skip it as people keep saying, but even that isn't "better" than not having the option to do something bad - at best it's just no worse.
