What console fighting games were you playing with your friends back in the day? Did you organize any living room tourneys? Which fighting vidya releases were you excited for? Post your memories. Post old magazine reviews.
No arcade or fightcade discussion, only retro consoles (Neo Geo is allowed in case you knew someone who actually owned one).

Me and my friends played a hell lot of UMK3 and eventually Trilogy. True classics.

Why is all your shit wrapped in plastic bags?

So last week when your overpaid band wagoner ebay shipment arrived?
Fucking pathetic.

We used to play SC2 in college with a big group. Gamecube of course. Winner keeps playing, loser passes the controller, mandatory random character select for everyone. Good times.

No that’s boring. Pretend it’s yours and make up a reason.
>>
Back in the day it was Mortal Kombat 2/3/U, Super Street Fighter II, Fatal Fury 2, Killer Instinct, Power Rangers Fighting Edition, DBZ Super Butoden 2 and Sailor Moon Super S.
Nowadays I play every now and then with friends and girlfriend, mostly games like Marvel, CVS2 or some KoF, or Smash.
I can still get heated matches with a particular friend, but in recent years he's been descending into madness.

So your pic would have been even worse
Why are mentally ill children like this?
>>
I was enmeshed in the FGC from 2001 to 2010.
I don't feel like writing a blog post, but I can answer specific questions about the time period.

>What console fighting games were you playing with your friends back in the day?
All of them.
>Did you organize any living room tourneys?
Yes, many times.
>Which fighting vidya releases were you excited for?
When it comes to /vr/ topics: Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

Butoden games were released in Europe, anyway I'm from latin america and I was indeed playing bootlegs in the 90s.
Got this Sailor Moon one around 96/97

I started emulating a couple years ago when I had to move and downsize my stuff. Turns out, it's a good solution if you want to play games and don't care about collecting physical copies.
>>
>>12135059
Of course it's a shitbong toilet paper which you could read while pushing out a proper log and then just using the magazine pages to clean your ass a bit. It was low quality paper so it was good for toilet issues and the words written on it meant as much as the huge log you just graciously delivered on term.

Isn't it normal to keep trash in plastic bags? This way, when you invite your bro with benefits (as in bennies, no homo) he won't go "Wot the 'ell mayte, you still keep them kiddie toys under yer telly?"...

Did you think for a while that anon might be trans? It's not very nice of you! You should apologize and tell Anoness that he-, I mean, she is true and valid!

Not really. I have no need of likes and upvotes from strangers in the internets. And I wouldn't want to make a grown manchild cry.

I mean, provide anything cool for this thread. Are you a longtime neo geo fan? Did you own and play any games when they were new?
>>
>>12137529
Nta but my classmate had a Neo Geo console with KOF95 and some Fatal Fury game. It was exotic in the same was as a 3DO or Jaguar was. Not really mindblowing. Brand new Playstation with was a bigger deal.

>implying that setup isn't cool
lol. what a faggot. I got my first neo geo in 1990. A lot of my friends had one so we swapped games a lot which made it a lot less painful than it could have been. I'm not a yuge neo geo fan but I have a lot of them. I did a lot of custom MVS consolidation and AES cabs. Neogeofags be crazy like that. I don't really like fightan games. Even the most technical are very basic. It's very boring when you perfect one faggot after another. It's also boring when you play against someone with skill and you just slap each other and run out of time. desu I prefer to just have fun with smashfags.

>I don't like the gamepad, looks cheap and uncomfortable
But it has nine face buttons. NINE! That's one more than eight and three more than six. Anyone here can tell you that the number of face buttons in the most important aspect of a controller. And it has a SCART connector which any one here can tell you is the best connector ever made. It's not nearly as uncomfortable as my other gamepad, Pic related. But that has 18 face buttons. But that has 18 face buttons so it's worth it even if I can't press them because it takes two hands to hold the gamepad.
>This is a fightan thread, please understand
But it's not. It's an emulation thread. You've never actually played a game, only emulated them. You cheated not only the game but yourself.

I am old enough to remember the whole 4th gen drama. SNES SF2 release that made Sega kids jealous. The delay of the Genesis SF2 port. Mortal Kombat blood controversy. SNES comeback with the MK2 port. My absolute favorites from that era were SF2 Turbo and MK2 on SNES.
>>
>>12135016
>Fighting vidya couch classics
>only retro consoles
These two things are incompatible for discussion of the topic because fighting games were emulated in the late 90s, and playing offline emulated fighting games was a major part of the 2000s FGC.

For me I started with the PC desktop computer, then it was Dreamcast SNES emulation, then a modded xbox, then eventually in college I was playing emulated fighting games with my roommates and friends almost every day on a dedicated PC connected to a 36" CRT monitor in the living room. This was all in the 2000s.
