What am I in for?

Probably the best game you will ever play that legit has shit combat gameplay. If you don't mind that, you will have a blast
>>
>>12137345
Is the combat worse than Silent Hill? I love the SH games and the combat in those is shite
>>
>>12137365
Notably worse, yes. But substantially better narratively and aesthetically to compensate.
>>
>>12137345
>>12137365
The combat is MEANT to be bad. The mc is an ordinary woman. Not a super cop like re4 Leon.

She's a normal woman scared out of her mind at the shit happening to her
>>
>>12137335
lemme guess, the rule of rose is "they're pretty but their thorns will hurt you"
>>
>>12137374
>MEANT
I doubt that, PS2 has other horror games featuring regular or even weak women that went in a different direction. The devs probably got no time to fully polish the combat and just focused on other aspects of the game, which is why the people who have actually played the game love it a lot (not like the faggot above this post)
>>12137378
Play the game
>>
>>12137382
Not only have I played it, I liked it enough to buy a copy, friendo.
>>
>>12137335
it's kino but the pretentious confusing 2Deep4U pseud story is bad, far worse offender than the terrible gameplay

A horror game that gets less scary but more depressing as it goes on, culminating with one of the most fucked up final bosses in games and one of the saddest endings out there. I guess in a way the ending is realistic.

Shit gaemplay (worse than SH)
meh location (slightly worse than SH)
but story is like if Cletus wrote SH, RoR was written by EINSTEIN

The combat sucks. Mermaid boss is a cunt asshole
>>
Play it as an adventure game and not a combat nor horror.
Most people can't seem to look past the fact that the combat is basic and the game is not really challenging to just focus on the story, characters and atmosphere being told.

The point of a video game is gameplay.
If you want something else read a book or watch a movie, poser.
>>
>>12139047
But why? The video game medium allows me to connect with the character in a way that a movie doesn't, and to immerse myself in the atmosphere.
>>
>>12139052
Books and movies do that too, you just lack empathy because unless you are controlling the character you won't feel any sympathy for them.
>>
>>12137438
By a huge margin too
>>
>>12139057
I like low to mid poly 3D models on pre-rendered backgrounds.
>>
>>12139047
No, it's still highly interactive and things progress and how much you learn is based on how much you do.
It could never be replicated in other mediums.
You also assume combat, which is a tiny amount of the game, is the focus. It's not, it's exploration and trying to make sense of the surreal events that are a child's take on real traumatic things.
>>
>>12139057
Books and movies convey stories in a completely different way compared to video games. I have no reason to limit myself to one type of storytelling.

I'm playing through it right now and it legitimately might be one of the best games I've ever played, and I'm not even exaggerating. I see others in the thread are complimenting it, and I don't want to circle jerk, but the storytelling really is top-tier.

The way you use give the dog items to hunt, leading to the discover of new items, is extremely addicting and one of the best examples of "environmental storytelling" I've ever seen in a game.

Also: I've been stuck looking for the red bird. I've noticed the following colored birds painted on the walls. Any hints are appreciated.
>Red bird - 55
>Green bird - 45
>Blue bird - 16
>Yellow bird - 12 (next to room 12)
There is also a dead body with a newspaper stapled to it reading -
>“Husband ‘Borrows’ yet Another 30 Pounds from Wife’s Bank Account.”

I am kind of confined to this hallway, so I’m clearly missing something.
>>
>>12139083
Son of a bitch. Immediately after posting this I went back to check room 12 for the 10th time and finally noticed that entering and exiting the room changes which kid isn’t hanging out in the hallway.
Fuckin Midwich Elementary bathroom shit.

Can you lend me your copy when you're done with it

Glad you're enjoying it anon, it's one of my absolute favorite games ever

Nigga you better stock up on those healing items, mark my words. Don't neglect doing that shit even if you get bored of this mechanic

Yeah, I found this out the hard way lol. I’m addicted to the mechanic though, and will definitely be doing a second playthrough to figure out what every item leads to. Filling out all of the ???’s is satisfying and has led to lore I wouldn’t otherwise know.

You're just sitting in front of a monitor and you can somewhat see yourself in the reflection if you squint a bit.
>>
>>12137335
A really awesome story. I really wanted to hate it just so I could say "this isn't worth the money" but in the end it won me over. It is a cool game, and the gameplay isn't nearly as bad as people say. Just as long as you don't try to 100%. What I remember is 100%ing it is the bullshit annoying part. But just playing it for the mainline was fine - it was pretty enjoyable, even
>>
Never played but whenever I hear about this game I instantly think of an eerily gorgeous ginger girl lifting her skirt.
