As a kid, I'd just think, "Oh, this is a bit sad," or "Wow, how spooky!" As an adult, so many moments really hit me right in the gut with how much I can relate to them. It's a very adult game, in the sense that you have to be an adult who's lived enough years and had enough experiences to fully appreciate the depth and relatability of what's being presented. Obviously, it's not all doom and gloom, either, there's a lot of hope and a happy ending and a positive message, but again the full impact is missed by most kids who just don't have the breadth and depth of experience in life to grasp it all as deeply as an adult can.
