How does Bard's Tale compare to Ultima or Wizardry or other fantasy RPGs popular in the mid-80's?
>>12141663You could describe Bard's Tale as a Wizardry-like. The scrolling graphics are pretty nuts.
>>12141663It's okay, but you should play Dragon Wars instead.
>>12141663Not as good as WirzardyRetards made the common mistake of making the town a labyrinth and the level up system is retarded
>>12141663The Bald's Tale was the first RPG franchise to die outall it's competitors (Wizardry, Ultima, Might & Magic....) continued having games but this series didn't even live to see the 90's lol, even JRPG slop from the 80'sthen almost 2 decades later it was revived...as a shitty BG Dark Alliance clone, and when they finally made a proper CRPG sequel (BT4) it went under the radar like a wet fart
>>12141663I'm actually playing thru Bard's Tale right now. It's most similar to Wizardry 6+ and the Might and Magic games. There's a large town you walk around and dungeons branch off from the town or from locations in the town. Unlike Wizardry 1-5, there isn't an "exit" from the dungeon into a safe town. Later games (or at least Bard's Tale 2) re-use the town so if you're still familiar with it, you'll be familiar with where landmarks are.The big differences between Bard's Tale and the others is that the party recovers MP when standing in the sunlight, so unlike Wizardry 6, you don't set up camp and have part of your party asleep when ambushed. Time flows in Bard's Tale, even when standing still, so you regain MP and can be attacked by just standing there. The sunlight-MP-recovery does mean you don't recover MP when it's night, or when in a dungeon, so it isn't as trivial as just standing still to recover after every fight. The game also has some job changing but it's a lot more limited than Wizardry and there's a bit more inventory management, given that you consume arrows and torches as you use them up. There's also a focus on monster summons and recruiting friendly NPCs, as you have a 6-person party but have 7 party slots for the summoned character. (Altho the modern remake lets you just make 7 party members and the summons become useless.)Overall, I feel like it doesn't compare well to a game like Wizardry 6 or Wizardry 7, but maybe I just haven't played it enough to really get to the best parts. It's a lot easier and easier to get into than the Wizardry games, so if you want something more casual then it's fun.
>>12141663Wasn't able to play it much since combat is literaly 0 iq.
