The isometric Tony Hawk games were really good too, I spent a lot of time playing those. The LR buttons work really well with them.
>>
Sigma Star Saga - I liked that the random battles were mini-shmups instead of menu fights
>>
Growing up:
>Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town
>DBZ: Legacy of Goku 2
>Golden Sun
Now:
>Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
>Fire Emblem
>Mega Man Zero

I really like GBA. I don't know if it has a LOT of games worth playing, but the great ones really are incredible.

metroid fusion and aria of sorrow. encountering SA-X for the first time and fighting julius was kino

There's a bunch I I rally like. If I have to pick one it would be The Minish Cap. Would also argue it's the best looking game on the GBA.

This thread reminded me of how great of a console the GBA was. Holy shit, this was peak gaming. My top 5 would be

Astro Boy Omega Facto
WarioWare inc.
Aria Of Sorrow
Metroid Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion

but those are mostly interchangeable.

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.
It's the reason why I bought my GBA to begin with.

The Megaman Zero games probably.

It's hard to pick one, there are so many great games on the GBA. So I'll pick the one I completed the most timesL Max Payne Advance.

You posted it.

I like Chain of Mempries but lets not pretend it isn't kusoge.
I only have this opinion because I played it obsessively after getting it as a prize from Dave and Busters, and after finishing the Rikku story mode; I realized I never wanted to touch it again. Too.much farming for card packs with nothing but garbage. I wanted to tear my NDS in half.
Metroid Fusion is dope though. Nothing like eating a bunch X cells when ypur life is low.

>>12146365
Well, I do have some bias for CoM because it was my first KH game (didn't get a PS2 until 2008), so maybe if I played it after KH1 I'd have worse opinion about it.
Sure, the plot is like 80% filler that has nothing to do with the main storyline and it's basically a "what if KH1 came out on GBA" with the same worlds, characters, magic, summons etc., but I'm glad devs went with deck system instead of trying to fit in ARPG gameplay - not only it'd be just something akin to Summon Night Swordcraft Story (which is fine by itself but the gameplay doesn't feel like KH) but deck building added variety and replayability to the game. Now a remake of CoM is something I would never recommend to anyone - intentionally going from 3D to 2D just to fit the game on GBA and then going from 2D to 3D by using the same engine as KH1 and KH2 (with a bunch of awful gameplay changes, like Moogle Point farming being nerfed to hell and Riku's story mode no longer having tough boss fights because Duel is braindead) makes the gameplay feel really, really slow (because GBA CoM was never designed with 3D in mind).
I'm fine with Riku's story on GBA - it's much shorter because no deck building and filler plot, so you just enjoy the gameplay.

harvest moon and maybe the final fantasy nes/snes ports. would rather play comfy games while watching a movie or winding down in bed instead of focusing on some action game on the tiny gba screen. also maybe puzzle games for the same reason
>>
>>12143189
Rhythm Heaven and Astro Boy
>>
>>12146465
and i guess other rpgs but only if they're good. Rpgs maybe peaked on gba/ds because playing them as a full sized tv game seems too dull but playing handheld while doing other stuff is comfy
>>
too many games to choose from
>Minish Cap
>Metroid Fusion
>Metroid Zero Mission
>Golden Sun
>Golden Sun 2
>Astro Boy
>Superstar Saga
>Warioware MM
>Warioware Twisted
>Aria of Sorrow
>Boktai
>Boktai 2
>Drill Dozer
>FFTA
>Advance Wars
>Advance Wars 2
>Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
>Warioland 4
>Megaman Zero
>Pokemon Emerald
>Fire Red/Leaf Green
>Rhythm Tengoku
>Mother 3
>Sonic Advance
>Sonic Advance 2

would all be valid answers for me. if I HAVE to pick a favorite its probably superstar saga

Summon Knight Swordcraft story. In fact, I am gonna start a playthrough right now. The entire trilogy, hope the 3rd translation patch is finished.
>>
>>12147938
This stuff feels even better in-game alongside music. Expect nothing less from Riviera devs.
>>
>>12145030
Mario Tennis is fun but if you play on hard difficulty it becomes very repetitive. At a certain point in the game (on hard difficulty) only way to score a point is a special move. So you matches end up being a spam fest of those.
>>
>>12144979
Same here, but I hated that game.
For me, it's a tie between Fire Emblem and Shining Force.
>>
Mother 3

Maybe the only portable game comparable to home console gaming in terms of scope and polish

>>12148573
not even a top 5 gba rpg and a 6/10 at best

>>
>>12150732
It looks fine on the front-lit screen. But anything brighter and they're way too garish. And of course a dark screen leads to other annoyances like characters needing shadow trails and making sounds when you press a button (mario and link come to mind).
