Do you think there are things that haven't been discovered yet in classic VG, I keep wondering what would happen if a whole new world was discovered inside a videogame that the developers themselves didn't even design. Is it at least possible, to the nature of glitches? Could classic VG take on a life of their own, or am I just being irrational?
Probably huge amounts of it in lesser played games.> I keep wondering what would happen if a whole new world was discovered inside a videogame that the developers themselves didn't even design. This is only possible if you twist the meaning of "whole new world". It would be like the minus worlds of SMB or the secret worlds of Metroid. Exploiting the way the game calls assets.
>>12143938>Do you think there are things that haven't been discovered yet in classic VGI'm sure there are some, but most recent "discoveries" are just zoomers rediscovering something many people knew about decades ago.>I keep wondering what would happen if a whole new world was discovered inside a videogame that the developers themselves didn't even design. I'm sure there are pills you can take to fix that.
>>12143938>That exact type of thing is featured in two NES games, one a major release, and the other a more obscure release. They're hidden with feats of skill that are needed to unlock it, and the other with a code that only I know (apparently) respectively.I've been taking my sweet time on when to inform. (I can't play games all the time.)The funniest thing is that for both games, the "experts" have stated over and over again that there's nothing else in the games.[fixed] P.S. I'm not kidding in the slightest.

>>12144154So you don’t deny your brownness? If you were telling the truth you would just fucking tell us. Man is my face going to be red in an unspecified period of time when an unspecified gaming website reveals long lost bullshit in one unspecified major release and another unspecified minor release and I’m going to go “oh shit! Some Indian on 4chan’s /vr/ board probably knew about this on November 1, 2025 and nobody believed him!” Do you think Joe Rogan is going to do an expose on 4chan?“Jamie check this out. You remember that secret worlds thing on the Nintendo? Yeah it’s all over the internet. It’s fucking crazy right? Like you have to be a fucking hacker to even play this shit. But dude, DUDE. Listen to this. (Joe leans into the mic) so there’s this ummm colored guy on 4chan right? Like he KNEW about this. And he told 4chan all about it, you can look this up. Like on one of those archive sites, maybe wayback machine? Jamie knows more about it, Jamie can you pull up that post real quick?”Hold on I still have 40 seconds left on this joke. Let’s say Jamie starts talking about the game’s history or whatever and Joe’s like, “uh hey Jamie are we doing an ad read right now? Just get me that post number.”
>>12144175>If you were telling the truth you would just fucking tell usWhy would I give you fuel for two videos that we both know that you will monetize after you read it and then claim you knew it all along. Keep seething. The more you complain, the longer I make everyone wait.
>>12143938Haven't rom dumps shown us everything?
>>12144249No and that's the real mystery because they should by every known measure reveal all inside the chips, but I know for a fact that in at least two cases, they do not reveal all. Two well known games (one a massive hit) have oodles of hidden content....that no expert ever mentions.
>>12143938>I keep wondering what would happen if a whole new world was discovered inside a videogame that the developers themselves didn't even designGamers seriously need to stop stealing valor from devs, it's sickening
*I will reveal one lost bit (ha) of knowledge regarding one of the games. On that game, it is impossible to enact the consequences of entering a code (that is lost except to myself) without a real NES because the game uses the capacitors inside the NES to interact with the game's code.
>>12143938I once discovered an apparently undocumented name for gold coins referenced while the player is hallucinating in an unofficial mobile port of Nethack
>>12143938this is pretty obscure, but this post reminded me of the first boss in Run Saber, this fighter jet that's infected by some kind of nano-parasite that mutates metal into tumorous, pustuled monsters that try to kill you.there's almost zero chance of this actually happening absent an 'infection,' but given enough time and copies running, one game might spontaneously glitch into an entirely different but playable game.maybe, given googles of googolplexes of years, Metroid will spontaneously devolve into a perfect copy of Zelda.not likely, but the chance..... isn't zero B)
>>12144249To find all the secrets you have to thoroughly reverse engineer and study a game. Just having a copy of its rom doesn't reveal everything.
>>12143938>I keep wondering what would happen if a whole new world was discovered inside a videogame that the developers themselves didn't even design. When I was a kid, I legitimately thought games could work this way. Especially in 3D games, I always had this feeling that if I could just get past an invisible wall or some other barrier I could just endlessly explore some fully realized world outside the boundaries of the game. I had some understanding of the fact that games were made by people, but I guess in my dumb little kid mind I imagined coding games more like writing linking books in Myst than like strictly coding out only what you see on-screen and nothing else. It didn't help that we had things like the Minus World in SMB or the truck and Missingno in Pokemon, which fueled me thinking that way since I didn't understand it and it just seemed like all this shit just popped into existence outside the will of the developers.
>>12144356>y. Especially in 3D games, I always had this feeling that if I could just get past an invisible wall or some other barrier I could just endlessly explore some fully realized world outside the boundaries of the game.To be fair, anon, Ocarina of Time (gold cart) is like that at times.Btw the Minus World in SMB is fully explorable, but he map to the real path that leads to the next level is lost. You can fade through that wall if done correctly. I'm talking about the wall in the water, not the entrance from the previous level.
>>12144130This was my first thought seeing this thread. The only thing with a degree of validity is stuff like this, where errors cause things to get smashed together into what you can technically call "new" things. Given that Arrange Modes and Master Quests exist, it'd be interesting if there ever was a case where a technically-new and completable sequence of levels or unlocks was possible to find/make through glitches.
>>12144414>The only thing with a degree of validity is stuff like thisSad. What a sad opinion. Videos like that are the dregs. Utter bullshit pretending to be legitimate secrets. Well, anons will see later one....and say that they knew all along. It never ceases to amaze me how doubting Thomases in video gaming are so prevalent now. It's makes no sense. I mean, codes? Hidden levels? And you think you've seen it all?You ain't seen nothing yet.
>>12144434Yeah yeah, go back to suing From Software you autistic nutter
>>12144452No idea what you mean about suing, just got a laundry list of classic games with secret content that has been lost over the decades.

That's not at all how it works. You have all these dumps, yet all they've revealed is that you don't have a clue what any if the data means other than you can emulate games for free>that no expert ever mentions. Why do you imagine "experts" would go around constantly running around "mentioning" those things? Wouldn't they be spending their time on "expert" sort of things instead of things the voices in your head mention?>>12144278>that is lost except to myselfThe only thing that is lost is your mind>>12144459>just got a laundry list of classic games with secret content that has been lost over the decades.No. You have some shit that some faggots ("""experts""") your follow on youtube haven't mentioned in a video you've watched. But you're right about one thing. You're going to continue to posture and shitpost as long as you can. Then you're going to "release" these "secrets". And people are going to say they knew all along. And they're going to post links to prove it. And you're going to be totally and utterly humiliated. Just like every other faggot who's played this same game here before. That you're not even aware you're not the first dumb kid to pull shit shit shows just how completely ignorant you are of what other people actually know.

>>12143938>Do you think there are things that haven't been discovered yet in classic VGNowheere near enough attention to the vast 8 bit libraries of text adentures and strategy games which are fucking awesome and ten thousand games deep. >>12143938these games have been thoroughly disassembled and dissected, there's nothing new to be found unless it's from leaks
>>12144356AI could have made this into reality...
Nobody had time those days to make new levels that would never be found.
This whole thread reminds me of the time that some guy found an undocumented character in a first-party Nintendo video game. He had a fire in his apartment and a lot of his stuff was destroyed so when he redownloaded this game he had an opportunity to replay it in a different manner and he found this shit. It's technically not retro please don't ban me.

I wonder the same thing sometimes. Sadly mystique and secrecy can't exist in the age of data mining.
You guys are arguing with the same schizo who claimed Nintendo bullied Sharp into selling X68k's with an outrageous mark-up, and that it was supposed to be a console all along.
There's probably hundreds more incel rage rants on old games no one ever heard about.Developed by Atlus and published by Namco, Erika to Satoru no Yume Bouken was a lightehearted adventure game released for the Famicom in 1988, but while the game may appear cute on the surface, it also contains an unsavory easter egg from one of the game's developers. If you wait on the game's ending screen for an hour and-a-half and input a very specific button combination on both controllers, you will be treated to the following message: "Mmm, that's a nostalgic song playing. Those were good times. Meanwhile, who the hell are these people with this project? I'm so glad it's over. You think it's nothing but good memories? Hell no! Let's use this space to give out some thanks. First off, Kaoru Ogura, who ran off with some guy in the middle of the project. Yes, you, you bastard. Don't show up at the office without showering after having sex 6 times the previous night. Next, Tatsuya Oohashi. Yes, you, you bastard. Don't give me your flippant s*** — coming in late on the day we ship the ROM like nothing's amiss. You can give me all the porn you want; I'm not forgetting that one. All that f***ing weight you put on. No wonder you paid out 18,000 yen and still got nothing but a kiss out of it. Kenji Takano, Namco debugger. You are a part-timer; don't dick around with the project planner. And finally, Kiyoharu Gotou, the biggest thorn to my side in this project. Yes, you, you bastard. Once I get a time machine, I’m sending you back to the Edo period. Go do your riddles over there. Ahh, that's a load off... wait, no it's not. Kiyoharu Gotou — yes, you, you bastard. Aaaagh, just disappear already. Come to think of it, some people were helpful to me, too. Mr. Okada, who took all the good stuff. I know all about your abnormal fetishes. Yamagishi, who swore off soaplands until the project was over. Go ahead, knock yourself out now.
>>12146926Not entirely true. Lots of things can get misread or not fully understood when decompiling. Theres also chances of devs hiding or obfuscating things in code that newer programers don't quite grasp. I'd say there's still tons of things overlooked or unimplemented in ports due to these reasons and still high chances of finding interesting things in the originals.
>>12146935No one but you knows which one is which. All I know is that fat people are mad about video games. Furious even.
