Who else got into retro games because they had nothing but a toaster to play on?I sold my gaming laptop many years ago to buy a notebook for college. It could only run early 2000s games at the latest with 60FPS performance. I quickly realized these games were so much more fun and never looked back since.
modern games suck so much I think a thin laptop with OLED screen, and an emulation mini PC with an OLED TV is probably the best setup for both cozy couch and cozy PC gaming.
>>12145151No, I have decent gaming PC but I just don't like modern AAA slop. I also prefer older graphics.
>>12145151This was it for me. I got a shit SD laptop in 2005 for college and so all I played was starcraft bw, runescape, and doom wads for years. I bought all the steam source stuff when it came out but I quickly found that none of it was playable

>>12145151The opopsite, I got into picking up old consoles for free along with games because I was sick of having to fuck around on PCs with config edits to play the games I wanted to play there and then
>>12148190Modern graphics have abhorrent levels of visual clutter. 7th gen ruined graphics. There are exceptions but they're rare.
>>12145151Used to obliterate people in 2007 halo ce with a laptop track pad then called them niggers. It was truly the best of times. Now i have a steam deck with emulation station and play left 4 dead 2 because you can still call people niggers in that game.
>>12151267My name in Halo CE was "NAZI NIGGER". It was the most offensive name my 14 year old mind could think of and I laughed my ass off every time it said "x was killed by NAZI NIGGER"
>>12145151Had toasters from 93 to 2009.My first one was a 286 with 5"1/4 disks so I mostly played the game that came with it when I bought it.Got a 386 in 96, played a ton of Civilization, Colonization, Castles, A-Train and Might & Magic 3.Then a cheap HP office 486 in 1999 that I upgraded with more RAM, CD drive and soundcard as years went by. This one will remain my favorite as it ran emulators and I could play many games (Diablo, Warcraft 2, Baldur's Gate, TTDX, HoMM2...)Last retro one was a Pentium 2 ThinkPad I was given around 2003 that lasted until I bought my first new computer.
>>12151623>Baldur's Gate on a 486What was the performance like? It blows my mind to imagine someone playing a game that recent on a platform that old.
