The only Playstation console that did it right>Easy to develop games hardware>Cheaper than other CD consoles >Focusing at games (instead of trying hard to be a multimedia console while failing to have good games or proper hardware)>Strong support from third party companies (N64's cartridges drove away companies)>Cheaper games (N64 games were expensive)>Strong marketing that advertised the games themselves (PS2 marketing was weird with it not showing any games)>Great controller>Good quantity console and controller (later Playstation consoles have crappy quality)>Great variety of games for all tastes (Sony started focusing more to Western games from PS2 and after)
correct. ps2 seemed impressive for the time but coming back to it you realize the library has aged like milk. where as ps1 is possibly the most SOVL pilled console of all time. the amount of creativity was unmatched. the squaresoft library alone would make it a top 5 console for me.
>>12146083also if anyone has recs on what I should add to my library thatd be awesome. ffix is not there because I prefer the steam version with memoria mods.
I thought PS1 only had more games because Nintendo had some kind of strict quality control going on.
>>12146091There are a little over 4000 PlayStation games. Over 10 times the N64's library. Nintendo just had nowhere near the 3rd party support Sony had.

>>12146062nah ps2 was much better, sure it had more shovelware but that was just a result of its immense success, the killer app list was much greater then ps1s regardlessand doubling as a dvd player wasn't a bad thing at the time since download speeds and dtive storage capacity were wet dogshit, you needed a dvd player for movies in the early 00s
>>12146083This is actually my experience with PS1 and PS2 games so far as someone who didn't have either console growing up. About a third of the PS1 games I've played so far have been at least decent, while very few PS2 games I've played have been worth the time I put into them.
Kaz fucked up so much ps1 devs with the excuse of "making it more professional".
>>12146089Evil Zone
>>12146091N64 also had trash games like Superman. The real issue was that making cartridges cost a lot more than pressing CDs. And the PS1 was also easier to develop for than N64 or the Saturn.
>>12146083>>12146196It's because the PS2 and gaming in general became more mainstream and thus ruined by normalfags.
>>12146512>picThis is the most "do i fit in yet?" mosaic I've ever seen
>>12146526>>12146083
>>12146503Every console has its share of trash, licensed or otherwise. My point was PS1 had more of it because sony gave less of a shit.Oddly enough, Nintendo practically doled out licenses for the handhelds like they were candy. Gamecube and Wii had tiny libraries too while the size of the gameboy and gameboy advance libraries could rival Sony's.
Least obvious tendie with PlayStation Derangement Syndrome.
>>12146526oh no, I enjoy things other people also enjoy! how will I be le cool contrarian now?
>>12147306>oh no, i proved him rightbased selfpwner
>>12146062immature hardware that can't render 3d properly resulting in really crappy games. Ps2 is the only console that did everything right
>>12146091I'm sure that was a small factor, but the biggest thing was the expense and capacity of cartridge memory was so high, that every single game was a huge risk. Not just from a development standpoint (because it was hard to cram everything into such a small memory and other forced bluring that ate into processing power) but where something like a ps1 game could be a buck a disc/case, N64 carts could be $14-$30 each. So if a publisher does a run of 1000 ps1 games at $1000 for the run at a minimum the n64 version would be $13,000-$30,000. And of course those are both ignoring startup costs, shipping and distribution, etc, but you get the point. If your game ends up bombing, which stock would you prefer rotting on the shelves? Plus you can even discount the games at a much higher rate to get them sold and still make money with the ps1, where with the n64 at some point you're eating all that extra cost just to clear shelves. I have no idea what the fuck nintendo was thinking here.
>>12146535No. Ps1 had more because the barrier to entry was lower and you could take more risks with $1 per game pressing costs vs $13-$30 for a N64 cart. Notice the ton of japanese ports? Because the risk is basically nothing, you could afford to throw tons of shit against the wall to see what sticks and still make a massive profit. Do the same with the N64 and you go bankrupt by virtue of being magnitudes more expensive.
