Was he right?
>>12148417The response to VF3 was the last nail in the coffin for Dreamcast.
>>12148417Why did japs love it so much?
>>12148417about the game? no. VF3TB sucked because it was a shit conversion.
>>12148417Was he right?
>Virtua Fighter 3th
>>12148417>Graphics aren't that good therefore it bad>>12148469>Graphics are good therefore it awesomeThat's every old printed vidya mag for you.
Haven't played the Dreamcast port but Virtua fighter 3 is amazingVirtua fighter 1 and 2 are cool but 3 is on another level
>>12148456>female usersYikes.
>>12148506>Implying graphics haven't always been the prime factor in rather the masses think something is good. There's a reason graphics are ALWAYS the first thing people focus on and shit post over. Look at pokemon, it's always people whining that they don't LOOK good enough first and foremost.
>>12148417>Was he right?Let's see:>Dural>when you face him>himobjectively wrong
>>12148538The animations are very ass in those games.
>>12148538Journalists whole job is to take more into consideration than the average person would though
>>12148417No, he was an idiot. Lots of idiots wrote idiotic reviews of fighting games back then with no understanding of what they were playing.
>>12148417This guy probably played the game for a couple of hours in single player arcade mode. Doubt he even finished it with all the characters. Maybe mashed 2p with one other person in the office who also sucked just as much. >>12148456These people played the game in its native environment of arcades, and the visceral excitement that comes from *trying* to win and stay on the machine. From the soundtrack booming out of the speakers of a 50" Megalo cabinet. From the community of players holding tournaments across the country vying to be the best and discovering new strategies every day.
It was a lackluster port of a 1996 game.

You don't give the Master System version of Outrun a 10/10 because you've played on the deluxe cabinet arcade version
>>12149848You didn't understand what that Anon said.
>>12149848The Dreamcast version is a counterpart to the arcade experience and overall VF culture and ecosystem. It's for the home gatherings and practice sessions. Anyone in Japan playing the Dreamcast port would easily understand that the appeal is in sharp competitive play among people, not mashing your way through the single player experience. They'd know the depths the seemingly simple control scheme hides. They'd know just how good it is possible to get at the game, and how rewarding it can be. A home port of VF3 is basically "portable" VF3 you can take to a party and play matches with the boys (and the girls sometimes too) to see who drinks the next shot, or wins bragging rights. VF was just very different in Japan, especially in the late 90s.
>>12149848>t. obtuse idiot
>>12149780>From the soundtrack booming out of the speakers of a 50" Megalo cabinet. The soundtrack to VF3 is a downgrade in terms of energy from VF2. It's good in it's own way, but doesn't have the high dramatic tension. Compare: https://youtu.be/Qso7uOiA6NAThis is good, but it doesn't really get you pumped up. Then this: https://youtu.be/9rYwRH7IlfkThis is gladitorial. This sounds like sweat and effort. VF2 is a lot more macho game than VF3.
>>12149952>VF2 is a lot more macho game than VF3.Why is your masculinity so fragile?
>>12148456It had a rerelease in arcades I think 2 or so years ago, very recently, I never knew it was that popular relative to the huge popularity of 2 and 4 after it. I have never liked 3, I think it's the ugliest game in the series, all the costumes are absolutely dreadful and the tag system has very little bearing on the game.I do like some of the stages, though.
>>12150087I mean, most of the characters in 3 are wearing sequenced jackets and shiny pants, it's a weirdly feminine game (which wouldn't bother me personally but it's also just a little bit bad.)
>>12150097There is no tag system in VF3 though.
>>12150087You're an idiot.
>>12150097VF3 was super duper hyped but a little bit of a let-down. Not a SFIII level let-down but not what the fans were truly expecting.
>>12150128Not quite. It was very well received in arcades but the machine was so rare over here that not many people outside of Japan had a chance to play it.The Dreamcast port was three years late and lacked any improvements. If it was graphically revised to the DoA2 level and had some extra modes then it would've been a classic. The gameplay was good but not the presentation.
I just don't understand why Sega would outsource a port of their highest earning arcade game which also intended to be their most spectacular tech showcase ever on a system that was supposed to be their big comeback?
>>12152104They didn't have unlimited development resources, it might have just been a labor bottleneck.
>>12152108Whatever resources they had should have been put toward VF3 before anything else. The port should have been as perfect as possible.
>>12152116Soul Calibur filled the void.
