crash 2 is one of the greatest platformers ever made. Naughty Dog fucking NAILED everything, the levels, the secrets, the save system, everything is just so fucking polished and tight its just a joy to play

lol zero responses to your thread, loser

1 is better.

>less moves
>more archaic save system
>gems are linear and cant be cheesed with skill
>worse backtracking
nah
>>
>>12150115
All of these are good things, the body slam is a terrible move.
>>
>>12150118
>being able to fall faster and destroy more crates at once is BAD
>>
>>12150127
Yeah killing all momentum for a dumb move sucks! You're getting it now.
>>
>>12150004
I played it for an hour or so and got bored and dropped it. crash 1 at least was able to hold my attention until the end of the game, even if there was some bullshit along the way.

Why would I need to even save more than once or twice in Crash 1. I can breeze through most levels in one sitting. Maybe 2 for 100%
>>
>>12150237
>I can breeze through road to nowhere in one sitting
sure thing champ
>>
>>12150240
It's about the rhythm once you have it it's a breezy, fun jaunt
>>
>>12150075
It isn't.
>inb4 le difficulty

>>12150004
>ever made
Don't you mean...OF ALL TIME :D
>>
>>12150115
You forgot more involved platforming as opposed to mostly flat levels.
>>
>>12150004
It's crazy how Western devs were finally starting to get in tune with what made Japanese platformers work and actually started to build upon it and refine it during the 5th gen.
What the fuck happened though? Why did shit immediately start going right back to hell after this?

3 is my favorite but 2 is definitely the better game. The only thing I don't like is the hanging levels, they suck.

Colorful visuals and wacky characters are for children, the market is all about mature games for matures gamers.

I prefer 1. I think 2 actually suffered from all the added complexity. For Crash, keeping it simple was the way to go. The added moves and obscure secrets, and even the analog controls (really the levels being designed for analog controls) made the game feel looser. It required less precise platforming than it’s predecessor. Crash 1 really feels like a 2d game where they change the plane for various levels. Crash 2 felt like Mario 64 squished into a narrow band and made linear. It didn’t feel like 3D DKC anymore, it was designed for a joystick. The music took a hit too. On top of all that it was easier, the final boss sucked, jetpacks sucked, and it lost some of the charm and humor. I even liked the old stage select better.

All that said, in Crash 2’s defense, it’s not a bad game. They had to do SOMETHING. Naughty Dog couldn’t just do the Super Mario Bros. 2 Lost Levels thing entirely. So I get it. Did it really make sense not to put in analog controls on a 3d big release in 1997 salewise? To keep it an analog 2d game with precision for the hardcore audience? Of course not.

The same issues come up with 3, and thats how we get flight levels, water levels, motorcycle levels, relics and so on. So people like me who like the timing, precision, almost 16bit style platforming of the first are never gonna like 2 or 3 as much, but I’m sure they sold better than if Naughty Dog had made two level edits of a reskinned game.

In 1, the difficulty comes from finding the boxes and completing the level. In 2, the only real difficulty that exists is the obscure secrets. 3 gets its difficulty from trying to get relics. I like the difficulty in 1 the best.

I don’t think time challnges are all that fun in a linear “obstacle course” game like Crash 3. I really liked them in Goldeneye where it was objective based and you had to strategize and plan and really play differently and intelligently to get everthing done on time.

1 mogs 2. 2 has:

>bizzare gems
>50% of the levels take backtracking later in the game to 100%
>uninspired warp rooms vs island theme
>weird back entrances to levels you wouldn’t know about without a guide

>>12150004
It's true, but some /vr/ posters have a weird contrarian hateboner for it.
