Why did poke mania start seriously slowing down around the release of these
>>
>>12166497
every growed up and thought the new starters looked gay when they were revealed in magazine
>>
Because 151 is the only group of Pokémon with soulful design.
>>
>why are fads temporary
>>
> non continuity with the first 2 gens
>Lame digimon looking pokemon like Blaziken the regis
>95% new pokemon that are all water types
>Huge step backwards when GSC had two regions and night and day
>Buy a remake of RB only 6 years later to complete the Pokedex!

Also around 2003 is when the late 90s- early 00s period of good times was ending. DBZ ended. Toonami ended. fox kids and digimon ended and music started to exclusively be black club shit around this time.

This was insanely hyped
Everywhere was doing midnight releases and preorders for these
I still have my little Kyogre coin
I think Pokémon stopped being a social hype thing when BW released, picked up a little when XY did, but I think more so because it was a brand new console generation

Everyone was leaving grade school. I remember over 90% of kids that were into it just dropped it because they were too old for it, which just left us autistic kids. I remember being made fun of for liking it in middle and early high school. Then, once nerdy things became cool again those same kids were "always" Pokemon fans. Me and a friend still shit on another friend for going through that phase lol.

It was all by design, each era is 80% engineered. The decline was perpetrated too. Who knows why, the rich elites are psychopaths. Things could be so good right now. Just remember who's really at fault here.

I had a GBC. I didn't have a GBA. Emulators are not the same since you couldn't trade with or play against friends.

The PS2 had been out for a few years by this point, meaning that even the most beloved Nintendo games were no longer socially acceptable. The demographic growing up was an issue even as soon as Gold and Silver with some of the spark dying out in the less serious fans. Ruby and Sapphire came out and were a downgrade from the past games in pretty much every way except for graphics, with everyone's expectations for future Pokemon sequels utterly shattered by reality. The series' western catchphrase, "Gotta Catch 'em All", was now impossible, so they silently moved away from it in shame, with it no longer being on the box at all because it would be false advertising.

Speaking of the boxes, they look incredibly cheap. They follow the pattern of the previous ones, with key art of major mons as the focus, but they're no longer in a timeless watercolor artstyle that looks cool, instead they look like something you would see on a cheap cartoon, pasted onto a lifeless background in a way that looks like someone's first Photoshop job thanks to the stupid circular glow. This was back when you had to pick the box up off the shelf and take it to the cashier, so it was embarrassing to even buy something that looked like this.

I say all this as someone who played them on release and even enjoyed them to an extent despite everything, the sheer disappointment from everyone coming off of Gold and Silver was palpable. Most people I know never made it to Emerald, Gens 4 and 5 cratering even harder despite admirable attempts to recover was inevitable. You pretty much had to start with these games to appreciate them properly.

It was before gen 3's release. Gen 2 sold significantly fewer games than gen 1 (Crystal is the worst selling mainline game in the whole series) indicating normalfags lost interest. They clearly had no idea how to handle the anime, each gym had like 20-30 episodes of filler in between and they dropped the GS Ball plot. Yugioh was a better anime and card game and there were plenty of other better shows to watch, so the only Pokefags left were the autistic weirdos with a Pokemon hyperfixation playing RS.

-kids that experienced the original pokemon boom grew up and pokemon became "gay"
-gen 1 came out 2 years after gen 1. gen 1 had stadium, the movies, anime and other spinoffs to keep pokemon alive till gen 2.
-gen 3 came out 3 years after gen 2. the fad was over. ash lost. the anime got worse too. I remember being surprised gen 3 was even was a thing and didn't care till emerald
-gen 3 didn't build on gen 1 or 2. it was the first rehash and many steps backwards. also the map sucked.

Crystal sold only a little less than Emerald and Platinum, and sold more than FR/LG, B2/W2, and US/UM individually (not combined), and almost as much as HG/SS (again, individually).
>>
>>12166928
>individually
lol

Multiple reasons
Everyone had a GB, GB pocket or a GBC, not everyone got a GBA
GF in their infinite wisdom broke compatibility with gen 1 and 2, they later made the gen1 remakes
Highschool, GTA and Halo happened
Also, I feel that outside of Japan that the IP didn't get the same push and marketing until gen 5

A game is a game, you can't say it's only a half

Kids grew up... and then some how got back into it later, but that's another story.

By the time Pokemon came out, Nintendo had almost 10 years of the market getting a chance to buy it's handheld. Even a poor kid had a OG Gameboy for $15 bucks in the face of rich kids getting rid of it for a Colored shell GB, GB Pocket,, GBC. Not to mention if you were a SNES owner and had a Super Gameboy which also sold well due to Metroid 2 and Link's Awakening launching around it.

The greater population was "equiped" for Pokemon to debut.

Now Pokemon Ruby/Sapphiere came out when the GBA was a new expensive thing at only a year and some months. The population didn't get a chance to get the hardware that a near 10 years of Pokemon R/B did.

Also it didn't help that it was "out with the old in with the new" with Ruby/Sapphiere which never goes well with a lot of brands.

Pokemania hit a plateau at the release of Gold/Silver, then petered out because they refused to capitalize on what people liked about gen 2 and just sat on their laurels being as trite and safe as possible with the anime being endless aimless filler that didn't even showcase the new Pokemon well (being a fan of Pokemon like Togetic or Raikou was pain). If the Johto anime had been more like the Raikou special or the GSC arc of the Pokemon Special manga instead of Pokemon of the week fillers with Team Rocket mech interruptions, that would have done a lot to keep people interested. Gen 3 and its soft reboot (but not in the ways that people actually clamored for like more types, moveslots or 3D like the GBA was known for being able to handle) was the nail in the coffin.
