Someone should make an infographic about why RGB professional video monitors actually *are* a great substitute for an arcade monitor because Japanese arcade monitors of the 90s were actually quite high end. I could but I don't wanna anymore.

I fixed my "underscan" issue on my presentation monitor. I just resized it in the osd. I thought this would over size content that was displaying fine before making the adjustments. But everything is fine now. I think I have my "holy grail" crt now. The next one i can think of would be a wide screen presentation monitor of what ever brand that has ypbpr as well as vga. But those are more scarce than my 29in monitor. It sucks that mine won't do anything below 480p on vga and won't do anything progressive on its component input (ycbcr). Ill be keeping an eye out for sure for the ones that have ypbpr component. Maybe the games that were getting underscaned were some odd resolution and now that I have corrected the size it now knows what to do when it gets the signal?? Do crts have memory or profiles for each resolution?
My Toshiba 20AF has this visual noise/interference, I tried my best to record it. Looks like noisy black lines all over the screen. Does anyone know what this is a sign of and how it might be fixed? New capacitors?Turning the contrast down helps hide it somewhat.
what's a best way to hook up a TV to a PC these days? it has component, SCART and S-video, model is Sony KV-29RE10K
>>12168067For CRTs, you can get a cheap TV tuner card with S-video and composite out

Having an external amp/speakers just makes the interference more noticeable than on most built-in CRT speakers. Interference can happen just from cables being in close proximity to eachother, but RF is literally every signal condensed into one—it's intentional interference, lol.built-in hi/low noise filters and ground loop isolators can minimize it, but really your best option is using a cleaner signal from the hardware to begin with (i.e. not RF). I'd replace wires, output cables, or even your amp before blaming it on the speakers. They're just playing what they're given.
They're spamming the boards, keep this bumped
>>12173354>>12170554i should clarify, the interference is on the tv itself. shows up as squiggly static bars. The ground loop isolator i'm using makes it mostly unnoticeable, but powering them off is the only thing that stops it entirely
b/w crt or color crt?
>>12175242>color lcdfix
>>12175247whole puprose of a CRT is to see the darker colors, so you tell me.
>>12174298>powering them off is the only thing that stops it entirelyWhat do you mean when you say you "power off" your speakers? What's your setup like? Are you using an A/V switcher to run everything through? It's possible the interference is being introduced there. Obviously make sure you don't have wires touching directly, if possible. If you have spare composite/component/s-video/whatever cables you're using, try switching them out.A speaker itself shouldn't really "interfere" with a video signal like that. They can cause magnetic disruption in the tube, but that would look more like rainbow distortion, and could be solved by simply moving the speakers away, or getting ones with better (or any) shielding.
>>12175671>or getting ones with better (or any) shielding. Many years back, I was finding these Sony SS-B series speakers all over for little or no money. According to Sony themselves, they're shielded, and I used to have them right up next to my CRT without any distortion or interference whatsoever. They're not the best speakers in the world, but they're an idea of what to look for.Basically, go speaker hunting on ebay/craigslist and see what's available. Find the model number and look up old reviews on cnet or crutchfield to see if they're shielded or not, and you should be good to go. But most bookshelf speakers made in the 90s or later are going to be shielded, anyway.
>>12175242>>12175247>b/w crt vs color lcdno one talks about b&w crts these days because they got almost completely obsoleted once cheap shadow masks became widespread. they have two advantages vs color crts of the same size. They can display a sharper and brighter image because there' no phosphor dots or mask blocking the beamin practice tho there's not many real use cases besides some very old systems like Apple II, Spectrum (with how bad color games look you might as well play in b&w), some early arcade games etc

>>12176791>>12176802too sharp
>>12176880so sit back a few feet, you shouldn't be playing that shit pressed up against the screen anyway
>>12176301Yeah, it happens on all inputs. What's interesting is that it reduces over time after the TV gets turned on, once the TV warms up after 30 minutes or so it's essentially gone. I recorded a similar video here as the one I posted a few days ago, this time it was on for over half an hour and as you can see it's gone, only the normal 480i flicker appears. I know that CRTs have some quirks as they warm up. In my case, not sure if it's aging capacitors, solder joints, or something else. I won't worry about it for now, but I imagine it's something that'll get worse over time, oh well.

Not sure where else I could ask about this. This guy is selling an "image projector", Sony. He doesn't know the model, but it looks like it's working fine and is 50 inches. I don't really know much about these kinds of TVs; how are they for vidya and movies? They probably have input lag, but if the image quality is good, I could take it for $40.
>>12177679>Nordic furniture design>Nordic tv designLike two peas in a pod.
>>12178314Could be a rear projection telly but it does look like a plasma screen
>>12178314i have a 37 inch Sony LCD i use just mostly for regular TV viewing or using a TV box, but sometimes use it to play games. These mid 2000's TVs are in fact better for retrogaming than LED/OLEDs because their lower screen resolution which causes much less image deformation, and also they have a lot of native analog inputs, so you can directly s-video/component/vga on them. The down side is that you need to use good quality inputs, because these TVs look like ass using composite. Also forget using anything above 1080p. And of course you cant hang them at the wall because they weight a lot.
>>12178323>>12178327I guess that's the thing; is the TV an LCD, a Plasma, a rear projection screen, etc? The problem with these Facebook Marketplace posts is that it's full of people who either have no idea, or call any and all flat TVs "plasma" even tho they're not.
>>12178327>And of course you cant hang them at the wall because they weight a lot.wut? We always mounted our plasmas that weighed like 200 pounds back in the early 2000s. Just make sure the mount is rated for the weight
>>12178314it's hard to say without seeing the model number but it likely has really bad viewing angles. You need to see perfectly in front of it at eye level to get the best picture on most project type TVs. If everything is setup right, the room is dim, and the TV isn't too worn out these can look pretty great. In my experience older TVs like that have good scaling for 480i/480p content which was the expected TV format of the time.
>>12178331Yeah you can get lucky when someone hasn't a clue but the seller is a retard for not having the ability to look at the back of the screen and look at the model number. I'm assuming that's a plasma screen, it looks like one, especially with those side speakers and the size would make sense
>>12178327I used to mount plasma screens as a job so yes you can, just usually on solid brick walls, not plasterboard
A longshot, but does anybody know of decent drop in replacement speakers for the Sony KV1380R? The foam is rotted out on both of mine, and I'd just as soon buy replacements as trying to repair them.
>>12178631Do they still work as speakers? You could just get some replacement foam to stick on. Chances are that the replacement speakers you buy will have rotting crusty foam too, due to age
>>12178395>plasterboardYou secure it to the studs why do you think you need brick?
>>12178641Yeah they still function, just with fairly poor overall sound quality and no bass. I see foam replacement kits, but chances are I'd fuck something up and would be better off just buying replacements right off the bat.

>However, support for NTSC is not universal and depends on the specific model.
