>Sequel makes the main character completely pointlessMGS 2 and Halo 2 are the go to examples but are there any other examples of retro games sidelining the MC?
>>12180864He looks like a dollar store toy, no cool stylization just the most generic idea of a spaceman
>>12180864He looks like the ideal action figure. No anime bullshit, just the most straightforward idea of a spaceman
>>12180874You're just a milquetoast faggot if you want that toy. Badass Billy wants this to go with his Slayer album while you have Linkin Park because you're parents won't get you things with cussing or violence
>>12180872>>12180874>>12180895It's good to know /vr/ will turn any thread into a console war shit flinging contest
>>12180895>posting nu DoomDoom has zero cussing. Doom is just a gayer more homosexual version of Halo.
>>12180895Also Linkin Park is objectively more brutal than Slayer
>>12180895>Slayer is teh most BROOTAL and BADASS metal band!>>12180936This. Making your wife a widow and your kids fatherless is more brutal than dying from a spider bite like a pussy.
>>12180872i unironically always thought this, it's especially bad after halo 1
>>12181226LP is for people who also listen to Daft Punk and Kanye West. Slayer wasn't too edgy anymore in the 00s but now they are because a multiculti zoomoid wouldn't dare wear a T-shirt with a Nazi eagle on it
>>12180864main characters are often overrated anyway desu, there's like three or four that i can say are who are actually more interesting or at least compete with side characters. more games need to have the balls to not make them simple self-inserts, because when that happens they tend to become great.
>>12180864In what way is Chief made pointless in Halo 2? He was co-protagonist with the Arbiter but in no way was he sidelined the way Snake gets sidelined for Raiden.
>>12180864This isn't a trope and you should feel bad about making this thread :(
>sequel shits all over the original and reduces symbolic elements to their most literal interpretations
>>12181950Nothing Cheif does impacts the story in any meaningful way. You could unironically remove him and the story would play out the exact same way. The only major thing Chief does is kill regret and that isn't even important>But but without Regret's death the Elite Honor Guard wouldn't have been swapped out and the schism wouldn't have occurred!Truth was going to replace the honor guard with brutes regardless of whether regret was killed by Chief and the Schism would have occurred anyway when the Arbiter learns the truth about Halo. Halo 2 is the Arbiter's story and Master Cheif is a glorified side character at best. For fuck sake Miranda and Johnson are more important to Halo 2's plot than Master Cheif is.
>>12181751I dont think you understood my sarcasm, but yes multicult zoomers love to wear shirts of metal bands they dont listen to. They wouldn't give a fuck about a Nazi eagle, they all worship Kanye anyway
>>12180895>>12181751>Slayer - frontman died from a spider bite in a friend's hot tub because he was too retarded to go to the hospital in time.>linkin park - frontman and song writer killed himself after releasing his suicide note as an album.you overcompensating faggots don't know what brutal means.
>>12182070>Truth was going to replace the honor guard with brutes regardless of whether regret was killed by ChiefNo, Truth needed a political pretext.>the Schism would have occurred anyway when the Arbiter learns the truth about Halo?????????????Arbiter only learns the Truth about Halo from the Gravemind, because Tartarus failed to execute him during a purge spurred on by Regret's death.
>>12183709>No, Truth needed a political pretextLike the fact that an Elite was not only responsible for Halo's destruction but also led a Heretic insurrection?>Arbiter only learns the Truth about Halo from the Gravemind, because Tartarus failed to execute him during a purge spurred on by Regret's death.Hey retard Truth ordered Tartarus to do it because he explicitly was switching out the elites for Brutes because he wanted more a more subjugative race to follow his orders. Truth was always going to replace the elite honor guard, this was always going to spur a schism led by the Elites. Master Chief and Humanity had nothing to do with it.
>>12183806>an Elite was not only responsible for Halo's destructionA hierarch also didn't die in Halo 1 lol. The binding covenant (hence the name) between the Sangheili and San'Shyuum was that the Elites would be their protectors; failing this (a result of Truth suspiciously withdrawing Rtas's Phantoms), the Brutes took their place.>Truth was always going to replace the elite honor guardAnd he needed a political pretext. Failing to protect Halo does not directly contravene their covenant, moreover it would be politically difficult to change the guard after the Council (largely made up of Elites) already voted to have Thel executed, not to mention publicly tortured. If Truth changed the guard at the beginning of Halo 2, the Great Schism wouldn't have started with Truth ordering the destruction of the Elites, but with the Elites themselves firing the first shots. Plus, Regret (a young and politically ambitious rival) was still alive at the time.
>sequel explains all the mysteries of the original, rendering it sterile and boring
>both games mentioned star a soldier (a nameless faceless person that does what he's told)What are you mad at?
>>12183865Truth already had a fucking political motive to replace the Elites by pointing at the Heretic leader being a fucking Elite. The first insurrection in the covenant to be led by an Elite. Even if that didn't occur Truth would have come up with some reason to switch them out, Regret's death was the ultimate case if serendipity. Regret's death is not the lynch pin moment you think it was. The Schism was always going to happen one way or another and the Arbiter would ultimately lead it. Halo 2 is the Arbiter's story and Chief is absolutely inconsequential to the plot.
>>12184614>by pointing at the Heretic leader being a fucking EliteRtas is an Elite and he is the commander of the Spec Ops, where part of his job is assassinating heretics (ie the premise of the first two Arbiter levels); the Covenant is always ready to deal with heresy. Never mind that Sesa had an army of what, just 100-200 men at the gas mine, and a single Seraph fighter (no slipspace drive)? Truth isn't going to upend the whole Covenant because of a few irrelevant thugs.>Regret's death was the ultimate case if serendipityRegret's death was the ultimate case of Truth ordering Rtas's Phantoms, which were en route to rescue him from the demon, to leave the area.>Regret's death is not the lynch pin moment you think it wasThen why didn't the Great Schism start in the game's opening cutscene?
>Sequel makes the main character completely pointlessand then they did it again in 3... whish there was a romhack that replaced Baby with DK
>>12184638You admit that Truth was the one that orchestrated Regrets death. So yeah it's pretty clear that Truth would have found a way to get Regret killed especially after his retarded discovery of Earth went south. So Master Cheif is worse than a side character he's a fucking pawn.
>makes the main character completely pointlessI was going to say X7, but X actually makes Axl's existence look pointless, that's probably why you can't get X for roughly half of the game. In that game Axl is just X without a charge shot, and X's charge shot in that game is crazy powerful.
>>12184650>You admit that Truth was the one that orchestrated Regrets deathYes, and Chief was a pawn, exactly as you said. Have we been arguing towards the same point? lol
when you consider how much crunch the devs had to go through its honestly not a bad game at all.
>>12184654So literally any fucking UNSC soldier could have fucking killed Regret you dumb fucker. That's the point. Cheif is inconsequential if Truth is going to give the UNSC every advantage yo kill Regret.
>>12180864How does it make the main character completely pointless? He kills one of the prophets.
>>12184862Except for the fact that the only reason they managed to get to Regret was because of master chief, dumbass.
>>12184868Oh did someone ignore the fucking covenant ship that just glasses Regret's location? Oh damn that was kinda crazy how fucking fast that occurred right after Chief killed regret. Almost like the call to glass it occurred way before chief actuallu killed regret. Truth was creating a false flag you dipshit.
>>12184862>Any UNSC soldier could have killed all the Honour GuardsJesus, lol>>12184890Regret's carrier wasn't too far from the temple and could've quickly flown over to bring reinforcements once the demon was sighted.>Almost like the call to glass it occurred way before chief actuallu killed regretI don't think the crew of the Solemn Penance were conspiring with Truth, because it doesn't add up with the timeline.
holy shit this is on Page 10?
>>12183553Killing yourself is the gayest way to die. Gay in the lame and homosexual sense.
>>12180864why is halo's dick armor yellow?
>>12184890That is complete schizo head canon you dumb nigger brained faggot. Once Master Chief assassinated Regret in Delta Halo’s temple, the Covenant leadership responded with:>Immediate fleet action to punish humanity’s interference>A punitive strike meant to kill the Spartan and any UNSC forces nearbyIt was completely reactionary.I don't give a shit about what your stupid fan theories are, the developer commentary and lore differs, and that's the only thing that matters, get fucked dumb ass shit-for-brains.
>>12184645diddy kong was the real protagonist of dkc1, you don't go out of your way to play as that lumbering donkey unless you have to
>>12180895Slayer has ways been the faggiest shit for insecure homo's who want to seem tough
>>12182070>>12183709Regret's death ans the subsequent schism doesn't even matter at all because the flood were always going to infect high charity and cause chaos for the Covenant regardless of Cheif's actions. Hell the covenant openly delta Halo's containment area to go after the index sealed the covenant's fate
