What was so bad about this one again?
>>
>>12183119
i honestly believe that anything after 3 were simply "not as good"
>>
Almost everything about it is poorly thought of and the only reason it still works and it's still a good game is because of the formula established by the previous entries.

The best example I always like to give is Stone Man
>has a rock throwing attack that can hit players close to mid range
>is programmed to only use it when the player is at long range, when it can't hit him
And the rest of the time he just slowly jumps around like an idiot.

Ironically it's the MM game on NES I've spent the most time with, there is something fascinating about a game being so poorly thought off and yet still being fun.
>>
>>12183129
2 > 3 > 6 > 4 > 5 > 1
>>
>>12183119
it's still good, just not as good as 2, 4, 6, and most of the later games. the weapons are all shit even alone, much less compared to the buffed op mega buster. but the super arrow was a neat idea, you can ride one across a big screen like a makeshift fast rush jet. also not like mega man is a hard series anyway but the 1ups having higher drop rates makes it pretty easy.
>>12183129
well that's not true, there's plenty of mega man games better than the first three.
>>
>>12183119
Really easy
Enemies constantly drop extra lives
Some bland level design
Many lame weapons
Weak bosses

Still more enjoyable to play than 1-2-3 though since unlike in those the flaws don't lead to frustration
>>
>>12183129
What exactly is good about 1-3? Seemed they got better and better to me on the NES
>>
>>12183146
oh and the levels are some of the best on the nes imo, they're all pretty unique and have their own thing going on, especially wave man's which has two cool things going on with some great music. granted stone man's is kinda boring for being the original long one before block man.
>>
>>12183159
never mind i confused memorable with quality
>>
It's hard to tell who's firing energy from their palm and who is blocking it with their palm
>>
All MM games are good imo. The one thing that stood out about 5 was that it was easier, and that it showers the player with extra lives.
>>
>>12183119
Easy as shit, 1CC’d my first playthrough.
>>
>>12183119
Forgettable, maybe. I played 1, 2 & 3 a lot over the years but I played 4, 5 and 6 only recently and I don't even remember anything from 4 and 5. 6 was good though.
>>
>>12183573
1 sucks
>>
>>12183119
4, 5 and 6 are fine. Are they inferior to 2 and 3? Yes, but its basically the same games with more mechanics and new bosses. Expansion packs, if you will. "If you like Megaman, heres some more!".
>>
>>12183605
They look good at least.
You can really tell they're made with the level of expertise you can only achieve when you've dedicated yourself to continuing to make games for the nes even though the snes came out years ago.
>>
>>12183119
Might as well ask "What was so *anything* about 5?". It's a whole load of nothing as a game that does ALMOST nothing new in an already fairly conservative series.
>>12183129
3 was blatantly undercooked. 4 was a better game and personally I'd put 6 above it as well.
>>
>>12183629
Yeah they definitely start pushing what the NES is capable in 4, 5 and 6.

I've always looked at them like "Oh sweet, more Megaman" and they do indeed look great, especially 6.
>>
>>12183119
MM1 is the weakest of the NES games.
>>
>>12183131
Doesn't mm4 also suffer from this? Toad Man's ai will get stuck in a loop if you're right in front of him and he will just jump, get shot over and over
>>
>>12183139
3 > 2 > 5 > 6 > 1 > 4

fixed for you
>>
>>12183994
>suffer
Yeah, Toad Man is a bit broken for sure, but given the progression of the games, I think having an easy or even easily exploited Robot Master is at least partially intentional. Perhaps Toad Man's case was too extreme, but given his goofy design and lame weapon, it almost seems too fitting, not to mention that his exploit is so easy to encounter through normal playstyle that I imagine it was discovered pretty early on.
It would be interesting to know though if he were always that easily exploited, or if it were a Blizzard Buffalo situation where they seemed to accidentally introduce the exploit late into development and never got around to correcting it
>>
>>12183139
For some reason I really like 4 and I'd rank it above 6, but your ranking is probably the most objectively correct one
>>
>>12184005
>and lame weapon
his weapon is great, it's a cheap screen nuke. that's probably part of why he's got two exploits, that would be really unfun to fight against unless they changed his weapon for the fight like they did with gravity man in 5.
>>
>>12183994
In MM4 it's just Toad Man, in 5 it's everyone
>>
>>12183990
>every weapon sans bomb is actually useful
>no e-tank cheating
>some of the most fun bosses (especially when you're not abusing the pause glitch)
Nah.
>>
>>12184541
>>every weapon sans bomb is actually useful
You get to use Guts Man weapon like twice through the game
>>some of the most fun bosses
The AI in MM1 sucks and some bosses like Elec Man are miserable to beat buster only if you don't exploit it.
>>
>>12183119
It's the most by-the-numbers one in the main series, I always forget it exists.
>>
Classic MM games all have flaws any other major franchise would get crucified for because despite MM being iconic it's hardcore fanbase who plays all the games is fairly niche compared to Mario and Sonic
>>
>>12183119
You could replace it with Darkwing Duck and no one would suspect that something is wrong.
>>
>>12184570
Yeah the weapon hit or miss quality is more 50:50.
Elec Beam is a statistical outlier as the most overpowered weapon in the entire franchise and should not be counted in the average quality
>>
>>12184959
>the most overpowered weapon in the entire franchise
Metal Blade is, followed by regular ass Charge Shot.
Thunder Beam is hard to spam and slows the game, so I usually default to Rolling Cutter or Fire Storm. And then there is Ice Slasher freezing shit right and left.
>>
>>12184990
You can disrupt the flow of time for infinite damage
>>
>>12185108
You didn't beat the game, etc, etc.
>>
>>12184990
It's been forever since I've played the MM games but what's the difference between the ice weapon in 1 and the spark weapon in 3 that makes the latter the butt of jokes even though I never see people hating on the former? Did it actually do some damage or something?
