How long did it take you to beat the original Castlevania with no guides no save states?
>>
about 40 years
>>
>>12184762
I looked up the youtube playthrough. this game is ez
>>
>>12184762
I beat it in an hour with save states, wasn't gonna waste more of my time
>>
you didn't beat the game unless you beat it on the 2nd loop.
tough luck, kiddo
>>
>>12184804
fuuuuuuuuuck
>>
I beat CV1 on an emulator back in 2000, using a keyboard (never had a pc controller 'til '01), no save states.
Eventually I got to play/beat it on real hardware (along with CV3), but that wasn't until around '06 or '07.
When I was a kid my parents gave away our NES and games after the SNES came out, plus bought a Genesis as well, I guess they thought the NES would be obsolete or something.
>>
>>12184762
never, i can't get past death
>>
>>12184762
Depends how good you are, if you have to ask probably not very
>>
I think I got stuck on like the third or fourth boss and haven't gone back. It's been.. 5 years? I'll get it eventually.
>>
best CV games is where main character walks like he has to take a shit, if he needs to drop a deuce then you know its quality
>>
>>12184936
why aren't you making an attempt to save your holy water to cheese him?
>>
>>12184762
Couple of hours? The creature and death were the big roadblocks.
>>
>>12184957
Haunted Castle isn't just bad by Castlevania standards, it is bad by video game standards.
>>
>>12184762
7 or 8 hours if I remember right.
>>
I can't say exactly, I think it was around 2006-2007 when I first got back into NES (haven't stopped since) and it was over the course of several days. I was still in the process of getting good back then too, but I'd say 2 to 4 days, a couple hours per day tops.
>>
>>12184762
I don't fucking know; am I supposed to keep a stopwatch nearby whenever I play a game?
>>
>>12184762
can't remember, probably three-four days maybe? it's a pretty short game compared to the others. i knew about the holy water trick but i had no idea you could use it on frankenstein (and the earlier bosses) so he gave me a lot of trouble, as did death simply because i didn't know the proper timing and it's a one time deal there.

30 years.
>>
>>12184762
A good chunk of a day. I've started and stopped numerous times but one day over 10yrs back I sat down with the explicit goal of finally conquering it. No guide or hints. Hardest part was the hallway/death and Drac although Frankensteins Monster also gave me a bit of a headache. Felt so good when I finally beat it. Once you git gud it really does feel great. Haven't tried in awhile but I could reliably beat it no continues afterwards. I also have never beat death with the holy water. Got gud enough with just the whip and cross. Throw cross at death take out scythes with whip and if time allows whip death. Easy peasey.
>>
>>12184762
I don't think I ever got past Frankenstein and Igor.
Didn't own the game myself, though.
>>
Maybe a couple days, I did triple cross and avoided using the holy water exploit.
Using the holy water I can 1cc.
>>
>>12184804
The 2nd loop is so disappointing
It starts more difficult with bats and shit but at some point it becomes nearly identical to the 1st loop
>>
>>12186109
Yeah, stages 4, 5 and 6 are the same as loop 1. Maybe secret treasures locations change? Not sure, but enemies are all the same and they aren't stronger
>>
>>12184762
An afternoon, probably. I only played it as an adult, though.
>>
>>12184762
played it on emulator around late 2000s, didn't use save states or read any guides but unfortunately already knew the holy water was OP, so the Death fight was much easier than it should be
don't remember how long it took but maybe 1 week idk
>>
>>12184762
Are you seriously fucking kidding me? I beat this shit in an afternoon when I was 14. The first game is not hard.

I'm still lost in the second one though.
>>
>>12186048
>I don't think I ever got past Frankenstein and Igor
What are you waiting for to fix that?
>>
>>12185335
There's one already in the game. Why didn't you use it?
>>
>>12184762
Like three days.
>>
It's not a particularly hard game minus the stupid Death boss that's just RNG. Also upon losing all lives you can continue from that level so save state's aren't even necessary. It's a preddy good solid action game, better than the OG Mega Man imo.

a reason to care
