What are the hardest retro games that are actually fun to play? I heard DMC1 touted as one of the hardest games ever but I just don't see it. Still fun but not that hard.
>>12186743Check out Earthworm Jim 2
>>12186743Nightmare Creatures.I've had way more fun than I expected after I got used to controls and learned some basic combos. Also while this game is hard, it is not so hard as youtubers and other retards claim it to be, especially if you go with n64 version and disable the adrenaline mechanic which was the main cause of deaths for me.
>>12186743DMC1 only gets hard if you play on DMD and fuck up against Nightmare by breaking its cores in the earlier fights which makes the last fight against it a horrible pain in the ass
give in to temptation and farm orbs and buy items
>>12186743battletoads and battletoads and double dragon. Very hard but very fun games.
I think DMC1 is one of the easier games in the series, moves like DT Helm Breaker and Meteor are very overpowered.
>>12186743various simulators>>12187012Those are as difficult as an easier track in a rhythm game. Battletoads was play tested by an actual child. All the "Nintendo hard" games are piss easy compared to just conquering Ireland ("n00b Island") in Crusader Kings
>>12186743Take your pick among roguelikes. Nethack or ADOM, for instance.
>>12186743The vast majority of coin-ops on a single credit
>>12187098you can make up bullshit rules for any game. Can't credit feed in pinball though. Getting a billy in anything but Attack From Mars really is difficult in that it requires a lot of training
>>12186743DMC3 DMD.Got filtered by the final boss while I beat DMC1 DMD.
>>12186743DMC1 is a hard game, but compared to DMC3 and Bayonetta it's nothing.>>12187035Funfact, if you double-jump, helm breaker does double damage.
>>12186743God Hand. The answer is, and always will be, God Hand.
>>12187043>Those are as difficult as an easier track in a rhythm game. Battletoads was play tested by an actual childIdk dude it took a guy who plays Kaizo mario for a living 18 hours to beat. Now imagine a guy who isn't super familiar with platformers doing the same.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4yMGV_rWNo
>>12187613>18 hours to beatWow it's fucking nothing. Also stop fucking thinking your favorite youtube eceleb is exemplary of the entire culture, shitforbrains. We played Battletoads for weeks and loved it no matter how hard it was. God you zoomers are so fucking ALIEN to us. You just cry and seethe and stamp your gay little feet all the time when you can't instantly get the "100% clear" and throw the game in the trash. We will never, ever be able to see eye to eye, you're just such.. disposable people with disposable experiences. Do you even exist? Or are you just like.. some kind of transparent ghost sitting there in a room with "content feeds" going in and out.
>>12187629>Wow it's fucking nothingYeah, it's nothing because.. the person in question is already really good at platformers? Someone who isn't a kaizo guru is easily spending 50+ hours on battletoads assuming no cheats, savestates or life farming.>Also stop fucking thinking your favorite youtube eceleb is exemplary of the entire culture, shitforbrainsGrandPooBear is far better at classic platformers than you ever will be, and it's not even close. You're a random shitter with an inferiority complex because you're bad at video games. If an experienced Kaizo players opinion doesn't matter, then yours shouldn't even exist.
>>12187043You are just assuming we haven't played that game and bullshitting us accordingly. I did that easily the first time I played Crusader Kings.
>>12187629$100 Nintendo cartridges were meant to last at least until next xmas.>>12187629some youngshits be like>no playing game >:(>only have played game :DThey get pissy when they're not tube fed the whole thingAt least Fortnite kids are learning to enjoy losing. There can be only one winner in that game.
>>12187307God Hand on normal is kind of a choose your own difficulty thing though. There are so many little tricks to trivialize it.
>>12188089>God Hand on normal is kind of a choose your own difficulty thing though.I respect the idea, but I hate the execution of this. You go from Lv. 1 to Lv. 2 way too fast, going from Lv. 2 to Lv. 3 takes a while, and going from Lv. 3 to Lv. Die goes by way too fast, too. The jump in difficulty from Lv. 3 to Lv. Die is way too big I think. In fact, I think they should have let Lv. Die be a Hard mode exclusive since there's no noticeable difference between Normal Lv. Die and Hard Lv. Die.
>>12187629Holy schizo lmao
>>12188109Everything on Hard difficulty has a flat 20% HP increase actually, which is huge. I mostly meant how much you can trivialize the game by just abusing YMK and Chain Yanker though. Drunken twist too.
>>12188137>a flat 20% HP increase actually, which is hugeHuge for multi-boss fights and forced crowd fights maybe. Against singled-out enemies, it all feels the same.I still never figured out how to abuse Chain Yanker. I've only accidentally used it without wasting an orb once.
