N64 original, or modern remaster?
Modern. They used the 3D models instead of using BRz or some shitty filter.
>>12187219Whoops, I meant original. I got them mixed up.
How did Rare lose the source renders for the Banjo-Kazooie CG? I feel like most Western studios were properly archiving material by this point.
>>12187215Right is soul left is soulless
>>12187251When have the Japanese ever kept the source codes?
>>12187491Ah yes, Rare, famously Japanese company
>>12187343Right is Xbox and left is N64.
You can literally see the soul on their eyes in the left pic, and the souless stare on their eyes in the right pic
>>12187564You said so just because someone else has said that left is N64. Shut up and get the fuck out, pouser tranny.
>>12187643?
>>12187651see >>12187559
>>12187251Just because they're archiving doesn't mean they can find ALL the assets. Especially since Rareware's development was known to be pretty chaotic. This is most likely an early version of the life meter that happened to be the only one they could dig up in full resolution.
>>12187654Yeah but I don't care what console is it, I commented on the eyes on OP's pic
>>12187660
>>12187215The Banjo on the right looks like it’s from the wrapper of an ice cream bar handed to you out of a cart in South America.
>>12187215Just look at the nostrils of Banjo in the N64 version, you can't even see them in the "HD" version. Pathetic.
>>12187215
>>12187215god I hate the one on the right. Left is superior, no question.
>>12187559Well aware, that's why I posted what I posted.
>>12187215Always play the originals or not at all.
>>12187215All they have to do is fix those fucked up replacement renders and the XBLA version of the games will automatically be better. Kazooie actually saves what notes you collected, which is what Rare originally intended but couldn't figure out how to implement in time, and not to mention the framerate is much better and 99% of the slowdown was removed without fucking up the demo timings. It's also a proper source port using the gold masters, so they translated the games perfectly to the 360, especially compared to other retro ports you see even today.>>12187251>SGI Machines are notorious for their short lifecycles>The rendering software used on these machines would only work on their specific hardware>Storing data was fucking expensive as shit in the 90s so even western companies would cheap out when they could. Rare was confirmed to have stored a lot of their N64 data on CDs and pre-N64 data on fucking floppy disks.>None of these companies ever expected they'd need to bust out the original assets after 20-50 years because back then nobody really gave a shit about retro gamesJust another case of hindsight working against everyone.
>>12187491It amazes me how frequently they seem to lose or deliberately trash source code. I found out the modern port of moon: remix RPG adventure is amazingly a source port, somehow they kept the code from 97. But the fact it's such a rarity is telling.
>>12187495BK was developed in the Japanese city of Towaikurosu
why does no one ever talk about how xbox fucked up the vibrato on the theremin, it's egregiously bad for every song and sound effect that uses vibrato
>>12189008I was too busy noticing how the faces don't change when you get damaged but when you lose a life THEN the faces animate through the whole cycle. And the honeycomb HUD graphic doesn't rotate when you collect new pieces, but still plays the spinning honeycomb animation on completion.
>RemasterBad texture replacementsWorse controlsMusic desyncs during cutscenesSkip dialogue button removedNintendo references removed and replaced with nothing>N64Worse framerate mostly only in Tooie but game still feels and plays just fine anywayEverything works as intendedidk the only kind of cool thing about the Xbox version is that they restored the Swap n Stop stuff. Otherwise I just stick to the original
>>12189038i hadnt noticed these but im fucking pissed they did this
>>12189008Thank you, someone finally brings it up. The sound effect on explosions (specifically grenade eggs) is also fucked. The XLBA ports are objectively better gameplay/framerate wise, but its those errors in sound design that really bother me personally.
>>12188917I feel like there should still be high-quality images of almost every SGI render that they made, if just to keep around for magazines and advertisements or box/manual/game artwork.
>>12189038I always loved how pissed Banjo and Kazooie would look at you when you got them to low health.>really, anon? tf are you doing? pick up some health!
