What's the retro game that blew up your mind? For me it was Oblivion back in 2006
FIFA 2020 on PS2

>>12188126All Oblivion threads on /vr/ are troll posts.
Why do people sperg at Oblivion but don't cry over the likes of Twilight Princess despite both being released the same year?
>>12188126The Grand Canyon Gran Turismo 4 rally track felt so damn real.I looked at my PS2 Slim in 2004 and thought it was a magical device. Something so light and thin producing something so real. The Costa di Amalfi and the snow rally tracks are also gorgeous.
>>12188186i know you're just another faggot with nintendo derangement syndrome by bringing up TP out of nowhere but: TP>a carefully crafted linear experience >limited copy/pasting>series already known for excellenceoblivion>used like 3 VAs for the whole game>horrible level scaling system>boring combat>copy/pasted content everywhere>series was known for games of varying quality (mostly on the shittier side)
>>12188206>missing the pointBoth are retro games released in 2006
>>12188208only good games are retro and oblivion is not good trvthnvke bqqm
>>12188210You are just saying nonsense now.
>>12188208yes, and?
>/vr/ is gonna freak out when i post this 360 game that was also on PC
>>12188241But why aren't they freaking out at the wii game that also released on gamecube?
>b-but nintendo! i want to seethe about nintendo!Just stop man
>>12188126Unreal or Half-Life.>>12188186One is a 6th gen game also released on a 7th gen console, the other is strictly 7th gen.>but peecee
>>12188126Oblivion was a big deal, that’s trueI remember it bringing in a lot of people who were weirded out by Morrowind (specifically the Xbox port because a lot of the people I hung out with were well endowed white studs and as the local black boy I learned quickly to spread my cheeks for any Steve or Bradley that came knocking at my Section 8 door but it wasn’t a bad life because they did treat me well and often took me to Jack in the Box afterwards for a milkshake and mini tacos)Skyrim just further casualized things and I don’t think ES6 will be any better
>>12188186Zelda is for faggots who chop their dicks off because they're incels.
>>12188258>>12188206holy fucking nintendo brainrot cultist syndrome. no one cares what console it came out on lol, just the year it released
replace the thread pic with a nintendo game (preferable Mario64 or OOT) and all this seethe would not exist
>BUT WHAT ABOUT NINTENDOseriously? the topic had nothing to do with that. it would've if say it was about how oblivion is considered retro yet the ds isn't but pretending like you were really talking about the year is just embarrassing, try your bait in /v/ lad
>>12188296New here huh?
>>12188310Consoles =/=You could easily discuss pokemon mystery dungeon for the gba but not the ds version, one is retro the other is not.
>>12188328that one honestly doesn't make sense though, well at least for red and blue mystery team not the sequels. those are just different versions that happened to be released on two different handhelds.
>>12188126my friend invited me over to play GTA vice city with him, his gf was there hanging out. my first run out I found a katana and cut a woman's head off but i just kept mashing the button and was surprised to see the guy just hacks the headless corpse over and over. After a minute or two my friend and I started giggling then his girlfriend started saying "ok stop" then started screaming it then started crying and she eventually ran out of the room and they broke up soon after that. That's probably when I got into games.
>>12188365What a weird girl if true
>>12188126Morrowind tbqh
>>12188126Custer's Revenge
>>12188126I think i'm the only person who likes the dwarven armour in this game.
>>12188126Not a single retro game has ever blown my mind. The game's fidelity always fell within expectations with the capabilities of the hardware at the time. The first time a game actually blew my mind was one of the more recent Star Citizen presentations. So forget it, not retro.
>>12188503>Star Citizenthat demo a handful of years back where the ship seamlessly went from space to the planet surface was pretty mindblowing. sadly it's all just going to be a tech demo stuck in development hell until chris dies
>>12188126Doom 3 was like one of those early 2000s benchmark demos but as a fully playable game. The lighting and shadow and bump mapping look amazing.
Dark Cloud 2 as my first exposure to Japanese games. I don't even consider that retro though.
>>12188186I think both games are absolute shit, and I loved Morrowind and OoT.
>>12188126Gta V. It's retro, right? It's on the same console as Oblivion
>>12188126Half-Life 2. Nothing comes close to experiencing it the first time.
>>12188126Doom. A friend invited me to his home to play it and it blew my mind. Also Mortal Kombat, but only for the graphics
>>12188126gta3I don't think any other game will ever blow my mind the way that seeing it for the first time did in 2002
Please give me one (1) good reason why people don't seethe about Morrowind bring posted here but flip the fuck out about Oblivion. It fits the rules and besides better graphics and voice acting and more intuitive combat, it's not that far removed structurally from Morrowind.
>>12189021because of this everlasting feeling of still being in that moment every single game that comes out that is at or beyond that level of quality has me plodding around at a snails pace taking hundreds or thousands of hours to complete because I am just living in the games world and enjoying the visuals.. like I'm fucking role playing in a walking simulator playing make believe that I have a life there... because I don't want it to end... when full dive via Nural-link or whatever comes out I'm submerging my consciousness and I'm never coming out.. gonna go live my personal journey/story in fucking Belle .. pic related.. Until then however an ai system that turns any image into a real time unlimited generation game with prompt guidance the way Grok Aurora 2 Imagine turns images into videos will be my universe..

>>12189029You probably won’t think it’s a “good reason”: There’s lots of animosity towards games that are seventh generation and “technically retro” because they also have a PC port; if it was 360 exclusive, it wouldn’t be within the rules.Concerns with “horse armor” and preferences towards Morrowind aside, that’s the prevailing reason.
>>12188126
>>12189029morrowind is an okay game and oblivion is a trash game. not that deep

>>12188206Ironically enough you seem to be the one with "nintendo derangement syndrome", what with somehow missing anon's point with the comparison completely
>>12188126It was Oblivion. I had played ocarina of time and GTAs, but missed morrowind, so Oblivion was the first proper open world game that felt like another world to play in.
When I saw Doom 3 and Thief Deadly Shadows, I really *felt* the next-gen. Haven't felt anything like that since.Apart from recent Empire of ants but thats not /vr/
>>12189112That's fair actually. I forgot about the horse armor. That move was extremely 7th gen-esque.

>>12188126Lords of midnight, first time a game hit me with the atmosphere, you could feel the chill of the icefields and the ice crown in the landscape, first epic game.
>>12188126I could never play Oblivion because everyone looks retarded.

>>12189029>s better graphics and voice actinglolluzsecks. b8 harder.
>>12188126Ill never understand how people find this shit playable, much less good. all my friends were obsessed with it when it came out. what is the fucking appeal>generic boring setting>dogshit generated dungeons that all look the same>terrible combat>endless boring fetch quests>terrible level scaling that removes any sense of progression>pointless, generic plot no one cares about, even people who like the gameWRPG and openslop drones really are some of the most tasteless plebs around, its incredible. "woooow its such a big world (that I will fast travel as much as possible in to avoid having to watch a fucking walking simulator for 30 minutes in between fetch quests)"
GTA III
>>12190057You need to get laid bro, pronto
>>12190057Back then the only kinds of RPGs I had ever seen were JRPGs. Suddenly there's this RPG where NPCs feel more alive, you can go anywhere, do anything, it's mind blowing. I installed a bunch of mods, did a bunch of dungeons and side quests, got halfway through the main quest and realized it's all boring and empty. But for a few hours there it was mind blowing.
>>12190057the dark brotherhood questline is ludo. besides that yeah its not that great. its for immersion fags and minmax autists.
