What happens when upscaled textures are able to recapture the essence of the original textures? Will you upscale just to see what it's like, or are you a purist?

Ignore 12189365, they're a fag. For me it depends on the texture. If the texture is like the image in your OP (a real photo), or if the texture is handdrawn, I prefer to upscale since it captures the original source better. But if the texture is sprite work, I prefer to keep it at the original resolution.

I feel the same way, although I don't like where AI upscaling is at the moment, it tends to be a bit too smeary and blob-like. I'm looking forward to when it gets a bit better. Sprites are always fine as is.
