The only people who played it back when it was relevant outside the nips were the French, since they got an official PAL release, and Latin Americans through pirated copies. It was already old hat by the time DBZ became popular in the Anglo world, so they have no nostalgia for it.

More importantly, where the fuck is the prototype of the official english localization? Will it ever see the light of day?

>>12204404
Daily dose was fairly pixelated. Couldn't it exist on an SNES?
>>
>>12204602
Did the people at Club Nintendo EVEN had the prototype in their hands or they did just used photo scans given to them? whatever happened to it, did they destroy it or store it somewhere?

I recall somebody contacting them once on Museo Nintendo about it but nada.
>>
Super Butoden 3 is cute because the Buu saga wasn’t finished yet, so they had to guess which characters would matter enough to be playable. Choosing the Supreme Kai, Dabura, and Android 18 was funny but in hindsight that’s all they had to work with.
>>
>>12204390

It's been years, but isn't the unfinished English translation kind of bad to begin with? I'll check it out later today.
I figure someone would have to start from scratch with the patch or do some kind of revision of the existing translation.
>>

Third world thread.
>>
>>12205005
Yes, it's quite bad and Engrish-y. I don't mind redoing the translation myself as long as I can secure someone to handle text extraction. I'm not from America, so I'm not poisoned by the dubious localization choices over there.
>>
>>12205012

>>
>>12204972
The anime hadn't even shown Super Saiyan 3 when Butouden 3 came out, and I believe the manga was around when Super Buu first showed up.
It's a shame most guidebooks aren't scanned given how popular DBZ is, I bet there's alot of interesting info and some TOSE staff interviews.

If Toriyama or Toei continued Dragon Ball in the early 2000s instead of the 2010s, do you think it would have been good as what's put out in the 90s or still as senile and fucked as 2008/2013 Dragon Ball?

Yes it does and yes, it would have suck as what we got now.
Toriyama wouldn't have any editors stopping him from doing retard gag comic shit like during Buu and Toei would have keep doing weird OVAs and movies of Dragon Ball Z and GT.
Also Vegeta still wearing his old saiyan armor for nostalgia reasons (instead of rocking that sweet ass jacket)

I played it using a SNES/Famicon converter along with Ramna 1/2 during the 90s. It was possible to get it back then if you lived in a coastal city. Friend of mine owned Super Butoden 3.
>>
>>12206347
I'm from South America. We got plenty of bootleg SNES carts, the first wave in the early 90s were bootlegs of Super Famicom games but, the carts, despite being SFC style, still had the 2 ranures at the bottom/back of the cart so they would fit on american SNES no problem. No adapter needed.
I had, and still have, a Super Butoden 2 crt from this era. The quality of the bootlegs are actually impressive, they are very similar to the real thing.
Then around mid to late 90s there were other less quality bootlegs, with cheaper plastic and stickers labels, but still the games worked.

It's wild that from 1993 to 1996 in all of North America, french speaking Canada had all the manga up to date along with DBZ SB 2-3 in French to play on a western SNES with no mods. English Canada would get in the known in 1995 but just the anime, nothing else and the USA would finally get hip to Dragonball and Z with Toonami in 1999

Was Bu Yu Retsuden any good?
>>
>>12207985
It's a Butoden game in everything but name. Yeah it's good, although I miss using L and R to dash, and sound effects aren't as good, but has good music and a very good roster, the best out of all the 16-bit games.
Butoden 2 is still a more polished game overall but this one is must play if you liked Butoden 2.
Like in Butoden, be sure to input the turbo speed code if the base game feels slow to you.
>>
>>12207908
Specific regions of the US was hip to Dragon Ball in the 90s hence VHS, SNES/PS1, and chink toy vendors were stationed in comic shops or local gaming stores.. but the wider US was out of the loop.
>>
The GCCX Super Butoden episode was pretty fun.
I hope they do the sequel.

Damn, I had no idea you could speed up Butouden 2. That was my one gripe with it. I'll check it out later today.

NTA but I assume he means french canadians had access to the french version of the manga.
As a latin american I can say I had already read all of the manga years before my country had all of DBZ on TV, thanks to the spanish edition being easily distributed around because of the editor (planeta de agostini).
I started reading the manga since OG dragon ball was on TV (and I started by choosing a random issue, which turned out to be from the 25th Tenkaichi, I was very confused and marveled. Good times.

Different anon explaining this.

In the province of Quebec (French speaking Canada with Montreal); Dragonball debuted as a manga in french uncensored in book stores in 1993 and slowly caught up to original run in Japan via Glenat Book Publishing. Around that same time, the Japanese fighting games for SNES were being ported exclusively in French for the SNES and sold JUST in Quebec (They did this before with stuff like Link to the Past having a french version and so on) which worked on western SNES .

To this day the English versions manga of Dragonball have never been released officially uncensored and thus the only true way to read it officially in Canada is sadly in French.
>>
>>12210134
Oh yeah the spanish manga was also completely uncensored
>>
>>12209797
>As a latin american I can say I had already read all of the manga years before my country had all of DBZ on TV, thanks to the spanish edition being easily distributed around because of the editor (planeta de agostini).

Ah, fair enough, i do remember someone reading the manga in 1998 and it was in castillian spain language, i believe this was before Editorial VID actually pick up the rights for publication in Mexico, they first started releasing the manga in short issues about the lenght of a regular comic book, before they released it in mini manga edition which were the japanese tonkabons but split in half resulting in 84 or so volumes, (85 actually, and of course split between the OG-DB era and Z) i have some of those, i was a poor bastard and these were only sold on Editorial VID own stores, which were NOT widely available while Marvel comics and stuff were sold on magazine stores, not on super markets and such, but actual ''Librerias'' that sold all sorts of Mags even up until the late 2000s, before they died up and mags were filled with shitty anti trump AI propaganda.

By 98 i was familiar with the spain dubbed MANGA FILMS bootleg movie VHS sold in mexico but apparently those were being sold as early as 94-96 in places, the famous Intertrack dub began airing in mid 95 or so but i read reports of the spain dubbed movies being aired on TV in argentina and south america, while locally where i lived, this movies wont show up until late 97-98 even before the movie Three of Might got released in theathers, which i could not see because schedule was bad and limited, so i stuck with renting the movie with the spain dub, i also saw the Broly movie this way, the first one i rented myself was the Bojack movie because it had Gohan as a Super Saiyan 2 in the cover and it looked cool
>>
my fav bola de drac character is satanas cor petit
>>
I like Dragon Ball, but lets face it: the games were never good till the very late PS2 era, and by that point DBZ was just forgotten
>>
>>12210334
Nah I disagree. I didn't find any of the 6th gen DBZ games that great, the rosters are big in some of them, but big rosters aren't eveything (see: ultimate battle 22).
The 16-bit fighters remain my favorites. The Famicom RPGs are also pretty fun, as are the Super Gokuden SFC games.
>>
>>12210334
Hyper Dimension is good, never played the famicom/sufami rpgs because I'm not a big fan of RPGs but Japan seems to love those games a lot.
>till very late ps2 era
Super DBZ, Legacy of Goku II and Budokai 3 were good and those released mid 6th gen afaik.
>>
>>12206304
Yeah, Tokusatsu humor is like that. Japanese capeshit and all.
>>

And these 6th gen games aren't good just because of BT2/3's huge ass roster, unlike UB22 which is just shitte and considerably worse than any of these. Your false equivalency sucks Anon.
>>
>>12214309
Yeah I didn't say they were bad, just.. not my personal favorites, I prefer 2D gameplay.
and big roster doesn't equal them being the best either.
