be honest, has anyone here actually beat this dude legit? without using a guide or cheese strat (if those even exist). Im trying to do that and just... fuck, man. just getting to him is hard enough. actually beating him seems fucking impossible.
>>
speedtrooners can do it in one round, whats your excuse?
>>
>>12204603
it’s been a few years since i last played it, but i can reach and beat tyson. the wii game is 100x harder on the defenses
>>
I owned the original game with the NES back in 1987. Took a long time to beat, being the 11-year-old retard that I was, but I finally did.
>>
>>12204603
Yes in fact I beat him at least three or four times over the past couple of days, twice going through the entire game and once with a code.
Want to know the secret? Once you get to Tyson, forget your timing you relied on. Forget it.
Now you dodge based on the sound of his lunges alone....and you must react *slower* than before, not faster, or you will get hit.
It's even possible to KO him in the 1st round, though it is unlikely.

Another thing to do is to memorize each round. When you get to the 2nd round, do not dodge his first 8 punches. Instead, block each punch until you get tired which will force him into a predictable attack that you can dodge and exploit. If you manage to get a star, use it immediately-do not save it.

Godspeed.
>>
By the way, don't even think about trying to beat him on anything less than a CRT or at least a modern TV that has a gamer mode.
The Switch version is quite impossible due to dropped inputs and lag.
>>
>>12204603
>has anyone here actually beat this dude legit?
Yes. Stay away from him for the first 1:30. Sway everything. Then, learn his pattern, like any other fight. Repetition is everything, when getting better. It takes a minute but not too hard.

Nta, but another thing that helps to beat Tyson is to milk the time between punching him when you get the chance to do so. That takes up lots of game time which is way faster than real time. That might help get you closer to the 1:30 and afterwards where if he does punch you, there's no instant knockdowns.
(fixed)
And never use your rubdown session in the 2nd round, wait until the 3rd-you'll need it.
>>
Punch Out was hard but still do-able imo. Even as a kid you can beat Tyson if you just grind long enough.

The special circuit in Super Punch Out is the real shit. I never beat that.
>>
>>12204603
There are no guides or cheeses. There's nothing you can get from a guide that you couldn't get from practice.
>>12204653
This except I just ignored stars entirely. Threw off my rhythm.

>This except I just ignored stars entirely. Threw off my rhythm.

I can see that, but I usually get stars accidentally from Tyson.
>>
>>12204639
Beating that at age 11 pretty much made you The Wizard back then, anon. There were legends at my grade school (and middle school) and Tyson could be beaten, but we didn't believe it.
Yes, we thought he was an unbeatable boss.
(edit)
This makes me think about all the playground legends surrounding hard NES games. We believed most of them and you would too given it was the 80s, a time when anything could happen and it usually was awesome, or, radical as we called it.
>>
*that Tyson could be beaten"
Not editing it again. So yeah. We reasoned that Mike Tyson had to be invincible for several reasons:
1: He was too hard, therefore no way.
2: He's Mike Tyson so they made him invincible to show how great he is.
3: He was unbeatable because it was teaching some kind of life lesson.
>>
>>12204603
I have on original hardware, with the arcade stick and a CRT tv. I can't beat Tyson with a regular controller.

Cheese strat? You can't cheese him.

probably 99% of people who claimed they beat the game actually just reached tyson and gave up. obviously not impossible but none of our friends growing up could do it and we all loved the game. I should go back and give it another try, though itd probably be even harder to pull off now with my old man reflexes.
>>
>>12206667
You should get a cat or two, they'll sharpen your reflexes.
>>

There's nothing more ridiculous than being a zoomer who's so bad at video games he can't even imagine the existence of people who aren't as bad at him.

THAT, by the way, is the defining trait for your generation. It's not the overall badness. It's the lack of imagination. It's why it's so often said you have no "soul". You're so stunted from being raised by a smartphone from bebe that it atrophied the part of your brain that imagines things that exist beyond the scope of your own meager capabilities. And I don't believe there's any curing this flaw. You are, in essence, a husk that will never grow.

Imagination is the spark of sentience that first separated man from beast. It is gift no other animal possesses that made primordial man say "I have plenty of water today, but I shall be thirsty again tomorrow. I should figure out a way to store water, and maybe even keep it with me". Animals may have instinctive storing behavior, but they do not have the ability to envision a future that is different from the otherwise inviolable laws of nature--imagination. Zoomers lack this precious human gift, rendering them little more than automatons fueled by resentment at the vague glimmerings of conception of the world of sapience they lack access to.
>>
>>12207559
Anon, I'm Gen X and at the playgrounds back in the 80s we all decided that Nintendo was teasing us, our word for trolling back then. No one we knew beat him, so who could blame us.

tl;dr for once stop bashing zoom zooms
>>
even literal children were self-aware enough not to brag about beating single player games in the 1980s
>>
>>12207691
100% of us bragged about every game we beat to anyone who would listen.
>>
>>12207693
I seriously can't remember a single time I ever heard anyone speak with pride about anything but fighting and sports games until the 2000s.
>>
>>12207693
gonna fuckin put beating ninja gaiden and punch out on my resume, and then in parenthesis i have to put without save states
>>
>>12207697
It'd probably for real get a human being reading it to at least pause for a second. Might even get you bumped to the top because they need humor in their lives.

>>12207696
My cousin who loves sport games never bragged about any feats. I guess we all bragged about the legendary games, not really the mundane ones.
>>
>>12207702
I'm just thinking of bragging about sports games in multiplayer, I remember people being proud of beating other people in nhl and madden
>>
>>12207706
>nhl and madden
I can see those because those early ones were fun.
>getting the ambulance to run over the player
>fighting hockey

Still not "legendary" bragging material, but offhand yes.

Spacebar beats him every time.

I've knocked him down once but that's it, I can't beat him. That said, even getting to Tyson is a feat in itself.
>>
>>12207559
take your meds you fucking retard, Im not even a zoomer.
>>
>>12204603
I did when I was a kid. He was easy to figure out. I had a harder time with Sandman ( I think that was his name)
>>
>>12208825
I find Macho Man 10 times harder than Sandman, and Mike 10 times harder than Macho Man

Mike is 100 times harder than Sandman. Did you beat the game on opposite mode?
>>
>>12204603
I streamed a deathless run of this maybe like a year ago. He's pretty unfair not so much due to his patterns or attacks but the fact you have to knock him out 3 times in one round or you won't win.
You barely have enough time to do so, you gotta take him to 1 hp coming into the second round and then not fuck up at all. I'm not entirely sure how his blink IKO works, you can get a sneaky knockdown if you're lucky with that, but don't count on it.
>>
>>12210682
>you have to knock him out 3 times in one round or you won't win.

Incorrect. He can he knocked out and you can win in a decision.
>>
>>12210760
I don't count decisions as wins, that's a very unsatisfying way to beat the game.
>>
>>12210783
Strongly disagree, anon. The stunned look on 8-bit Mike Tyson's face makes it very worth it. As for KOing him, all I can say is that if you manage not to get knocked down in round 1 and knocked him down at least once and then some, you can more easily KO him in round 2 if you do very well. KOing him in round 1 is almost a fluke.
>>
>>12210682
>I'm not entirely sure how his blink IKO works
he'll blink 14 times within the span of 1 second at 1 minute and 30 seconds into round 2 (if he's not occupied in another action)

you have to land the punch in between blinks 10 and 11. takes some pretty serious nerves of steel to pull off consistently

^behold, the language of speedrunners (cheaters using pre-assigned inputs)

(as a kid)
Macho man was harder at first. Sandman seemed easy and only took a try or two.
But after lots of practice on Macho Man, it reversed and I found Sandman harder.

Macho Man is very straightforward.
Once I got accustomed to the timing, I could beat Macho Man every single time.
It felt really easy. Just dodge and counter.
Every so often I'd get into a rut of fucking up the hurricane punch but that never lasted long.

Sandman otoh has a more awkward and random pattern of bullshit and waiting.
As I recall, there's some advantage punching into a block on purpose to trigger counter-punches.
He has those long delays before the triple-uppercut special move.
Annoying jabs.
Sandman is a dick.
>>
>>12212504
>pre-assigned inputs
Idk how to do that. I only know how to land the blink punches legitimately
>>
>>12212534
When you say "blink punches" do you mean when Tyson blinks, or when his entire sprite does?

>>
>>12216615
>he'll blink 14 times within the span of 1 second at 1 minute and 30 seconds into round 2 (if he's not occupied in another action)
This is clearly not the sprite flashing.
This is clearly that moment in the fight where he just stands still and blinks his eyes.
Lots of people don't even know about it because they never make it that far into the fight.
