Let's share some retro games we're all thankful for. for me, it's definitely pokemon.
>>
I wish somebody loved me.
>>
>169 to play it for an afternoon on a poorly lit bone stock gbasp before getting bored and finding some new distraction from the hellscape of modernity

game collecting is so fucking stupid with the current state of the economy when so many options to play this shit exists

ive been selling off my collection and i still wonder what the fuck these people are thinking
>>
>>12205290
When nobody loves you, you must love yourself.
>>
>>12205287
why is the cartridge stapled to the screen like that
>>
>>12205287
I'm thankful that half of you annoying motherfuckers are going to die before I do.
>>
>>12205298
this is why I masturbate
>>
>>12205287
I'm thankful that my son listened to me and didn't buy me an overpriced copy of emerald when he wanted to. It was kinda painful but he learned an important life lesson. He learned not to waste his money of frivolous overpriced memes but to save it an invest it wisely. Today he could BIN every copy on ebay without batting an eyelash.
>>
For that kind of money, you could buy all the materials needed to burn roms onto physical hardware and make your own labels for them.

Makes me wonder how long it will be before game stores get the idea to start cranking the prices on reproductions... if they haven't already. I haven't been into my local in ages so idk if they already do that.
>>
>>12205601
people constantly buy fakes all the time from game stores, particularly pokemon gba games, if you believe the shit posted on the reddit for game verifiying.
>>
>>12205287
>his own wife sold him her old crusty cum-covered cartridge for $170
grim
>>
>>12205601
if you go on fb marketplace now like 1/2 of them trying to be sold are fake. they are easy to spot since the color of the carts are very off. even if they somehow had a perfect exterior its super easy to tell fake ones because they have shit ass carts inside that dont have RTC and corrupt save files often.

i think if you were gonna do this scam you buy the japanese cart, relabel it and find a way to reburn the legit cart in english. i know theres a way to do it, i researched doing it with romhacks, but its effort but it might be financially profitable if done right
>>
I own Emerald with the box and everything but whenever you turn it on it says something about the internal battery and clock events not working. Is that still worth good money?

>buy battery-dried copy for $80
>replace the battery for $5
Not my problem.
>>
>>12205287
I don't know whether to be happy for them or profoundly sad. :\
>>
>>12205743
ya you just need to either let the seller know it needs the battery replaced or have a game shop replace it. its common now
>>
>>12205610
>people constantly buy fakes all the time from game stores
Yeah. The guy in OPs pics "wife" did.
>>
how are fake and legit copies told apart?
>>
>>12206078
pretty easily with a keen eye and a legitimate GBA cartridge to compare a fake with.
cartridge labels have small stamps in them and the label itself is a high-dpi print, both difficult to replicate at home.
GBA games should also have a specific size y-wing screw holding the cartridge together.
most fakes have cartridge shells that fit together poorly compared to legitimate ones.
the PCB is probably the hardest thing to fake accurately since all GBA games have a nintendo logo on the board along with some other identifiers.

lucasarts "pit droids" is the only game that i can remember where about 6 family members were all huddled around a computer monitor, 4 of which had no business playing the game, all trying to figure out how to guide the pit droids to the exit. the dialog from us trying to figure out the solution was something out of a monty python sketch.

good times, indeed. always a shame lucasarts abandoned the title. would love to buy it on steam if it ever became available.

Imagine paying for this in 2025. People are dumb.

And when you eventually get bored of the crappy third gen you can play a better game too!
>>
>>12205650
But whose cum is it?

find gba sp
buy battery
buy everdrive gba 7

i think pokemon itself imbued a lot of children with hyperconsumerism. "gotta catch em all" and whatnot, the japanese otaku infection, a love of material goods in the face of having nothing of value to spend your money on.
>>
>>12205745

If you go on eBay and search GBA [game[ donor cart you can get a legitimate copy of the game, but it's just re-shelled in some random cart case that isn't beat to hell because the original was trashed. I recently got a legitimate copy of Super Mario Bros 2 re-shelled in some Sesame Street NES cart for like nine bucks. If you're really autistic, you can just buy one of those low priced donor carts off eBay and then an empty transparent green shell and print a Pokemon sticker. Then you'll have a legitimate PCB and it'll look like an identical cart, And cost 10 times less.
>>
>>12206293
Yeah, that sounds about right.

I'm thankful for Doom, always loved the game, discovered on PS1 when I was 7, it gave me nightmares litterally and I was scared by it, but I couldn't stop playing it, it was like a forbbiden game for me when i was a kid, the thing that scared me was infact the demon more the imp design(it's pretty simple but IDK why the spikes on the body made me scared) and especially that camel sound in my kid mind was like a real demonic sound. I'm thankful for beign one of the first game I played and I still remember and still play with joy.
I met John Romero at Lucca Comics, really nice guy I tought it was there just to sign and make you go, but in the end we talked a bit (the time a comic convention gives you) I was happy to see him and tell him how much his games meant to me.
Especially I was happy because there was my GF who didn't know anything about Doom or it's history but she really cared about my hobbies and what I love and infact convinced me to go to Lucca to meet Romero, without her I don't think I would had my signed copy of my doom shareware copy, I think I made an impression since Romero wife gifted me the God Mode pin.
So I'm thankful for a lot of things for Doom both in game that IRL
>>
>>12205287
Do these games really sell for that much or is it just a meme pic? I would happily sell mine if someone paid such an exaggerated price.
>>
>>12206078
In many ways or not at all. There isn't a single producer if fakes that makes them all the same way.
>>12206087
>cartridge labels have small stamps in them and the label itself is a high-dpi print, both difficult to replicate at home.
Changs aren't making this things "at home" champ. Even if they were, neither of those are hard to fake
>the PCB is probably the hardest thing to fake accurately since all GBA games have a nintendo logo on the board along with some other identifiers.
Imagine imagining that someone could replicate a PCB but is incapable of replicating a sink screen. The literal state of the post-human infant.
>>

My God this picture makes my physically ill. Please tell me you don't do this /vr/ I refuse to participate in the fake and gay retro games market

lmao just buy it from temu for $5

A couple weeks ago i emulated leaf green on my phone. Even had some speed up options and turbo button modes for the bullshit
played ruby on launch, secret bases were cool, but there isn't a video game alive i'd pay more than $8 for

>>

Its because there are a million youtube videos praising Emerald or nuzlocking/challenge playthroughs. The same thing happened like 5 - 6 years ago with HeartGold/SoulSilver and those skyrocketted in price iirc.

CIB Emerald sells for $500+ on ebay last i checked, depending on box condition.

I'm thankful for the fact that classic Doom is still alive with an active modding scene.

What a silly bunch of things to accuse someone of lying about.
>>
>>12209623
oh my mistake. my vision is fucked. now that i know that's for a game..and looks like it has been in a washing machine, that's embarrassing. i have pokemon ruby somewhere here. great condition. no box. there's no fucking way it's worth $100+. i bought it for $10 or something. this gouging has to end, especially when we're talking about games produced in the many millions of copies.

well it's understandable. people come to this board and lie about shit all the time.

Because boomers, gen X, and trustfundies got scammed into buying them up as a asset to resell. Then a generation of braindead millennial OMG BAZINGA I'M A NERD normies are retarded enough to pay the money for that on a few rare occasions leading to a belief from said boomers if they hold onto the games at their price it will sell soon. I tell people emulate whenever possible for overpriced games, everdrive if you want OG hardware experience. You aren't rewarding the developers who made the classic game when you buy a 170 cartridge on the secondary market when the game average price is around 80. You are rewarding kikes and boomer who hate you and think they are getting over on you. It fuels price increases even more as people who only see videogames as a tradable asset get flawed confirmation of the scam they were peddled into. Don't take this as a suggestion that retro hardware doesn't have value or all sellers are scumbags. Certainly there are many reputable places and dealers and often they have LOWER prices than ebay and other shitbags.

>>12211431
>generationbrain being a screeching schizophrenic
Many such cases.
>>
>>12211437
okay tl;dr
>Paying ridiculous prices for retro games is retarded. Even more so if said retard has a weird moral superiority about it.

Don't know where else to post this short of starting a new thread. This one seems close enough...
Bought some clearance games at Book Off this afternoon. I find it kind of interesting the history of price drops they go through, though I think these were some of the highest original price points I've seen from my clearance-shopping there.

Looks like I won't be able to play Barcode World since it appears to have originally come with an interface cable.
