Why did they release such a barebones port?

>Worse graphics than the arcade version and has graphical glitches.
>Training mode has no command lists.
>Can't use analog stick and have use directional buttons.

Soul Calibur and Dead or Alive 2 makes this look terrible.

It wasn't done in house by SEGA, still fucking retarded given that it was a flagship game series at the time. Oh and the original Japanese release is just flat out embarrassing
>To make matters worse, there is no VS mode. This means that like in the arcade, if you win you have to stay as that character until you lose. The only way to get round this is to hold down all the buttons and press start to reset the game and start a fresh, which is both irritating and time consuming. This omission has been sorted out for the US and PAL releases since. The training mode is also deceptively basic and poor as well - the Fighter Megamix training mode is far superior."

They almost nailed a excellent port and then WINDOWS CE...

Very barebones in extra content but the port is excellent

I guess they were too busy working on Shenmue to bother. Shenmue's good but way too overambitous.

What a shame that Sega fucked itself up when they had potential.

The Dreamcast felt so advanced when compared to the PS1 and N64 and might have lasted a bit longer against the PS2.

virtua fighter has never been a good franchise

Getting a serviceable arcade to console port was good enough back then

That was initially the whole point of Saturn, wasn't it? Delivering arcade faithful ports to the Japanese market.
>>
>>12209203
That was the goal but unfortunately many games like Daytona USA and House of the Dead ended up being big disappointments.

Nah, by the fifth gen arcades have become obsolete, a console game had to be worth more than 2 hours of dumb arcade gameplay

>2 hours of dumb arcade gameplay
A shame that about 50% of the DCs library can be described as such

Being able to play games like Marvel Vs Capcom and NBA Showtime at home and have it look just like the arcade was a massive selling point.

2d saturn ports looked great with the ram expansion cart, but the 3d was always lacking in some way.
dreamcast was when we got arcade perfect and even better than arcades in most instances.

Fuck off, Soul Edge and Tekken 2 already had a bunch of extra modes, and in Tekken case, they added all the characters sub bosses.
Sega just downgraded the arcade game into the console and called a day, VF3tb had content that was being added into Tekken since Tekken 2.

Tourneyfags would disagree. Especially those who treat Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Street Fighter III Third Strike like fucking religions.

Namco System 12 is from 1994, though.

If you are not a sweat those games are only good if you have someone to play multi-player all the time available
>>
>>12211783
The System 12 is a PS1 on steroids, of course the Dreamcast is more powerful (though the Dreamcast version of SoulCalibur is still great)
If you're going to compare the Dreamcast to arcades, compare it to Sega Model 3 games

VF was the only thing that could've saved Dreamcast in Japan, so they tried to get it on there as fast as possible. VF2 sold twice as much as the second best selling Saturn game in Japan and was the only Saturn game with over a million copies.

As was the ZN1 hardware Sony did for Capcom. You ever play arcade Street Fighter EX and EX Plus on real hardware? That shit is smooth 60fps.
