Just beat this and this game is so fucking annoying to play holy shit. It's hard as balls at times even on Fetish. And unlike Siren for example the atmosphere alone isn't enough to carry it so while unique it's still a pretty mediocre game in my opinion. Do you guys like it? I've heard the second one is worse but I'm still curious and will maybe check it out later
I like it. LOVE the soundtrack and I agree with you that it can by annoying to play. Manhunt 2 is worse in every way but the biggest change is that they tried to justify the actions of the main character. He isn't just a killer among killers anymore but a poor victim.
(it's alright) / 10The stealth is extremely simplistic, whatever combat that's there is just there to be thereI had more fun trying to go for the 5 star rankings, but knowing how to get those takes some looking up.I can't really be arsed to try manhunt 2 seeing how its only value looks to be the shock value
its fun until it becomes all about guns and then i just lose interest
>>12207072It's great, atmosphere and soundtrack is top notch. I remember having trouble with the police section the most. Huge streets with no cover or shadows most the time, was annoying. Wish there was more variety to the melee weapons
>>12207072The concept and atmosphere are excellent but the gameplay is total ass. Stealth is awful and combat is even worse. Even Silent Hill games have better gameplay and combat.
>>12207134I had the most trouble with Trained to Kill, fuck that mission>>12207121Yes, like you spend almost half of the game shooting stuff
>>12207072https://youtu.be/XER6U0O7W7Q
yeah manhunt is shit, the stealth is binary and the combat sucks, it's literally just a gallery of 'brutal' kill animations strung together, i do like the grungy aesthetic and atmosphere though
That hearbeat sound is annoying as hell on my 5.1
This game literally has cover shooter mechanics that feels more or less 'modern' and OTS camera when you aim like in RE4 (was also a thing in Splinter Cell, I know) yet no one ever talks about it, people only remember RE4 and Gears
>>12207345There was also Kill.Switch
>>12207352True
>>12207174Oh yeah that one was pretty bad. In the train yard you would get swarmed by cops if you make any mistake. Also I may be in the minority, but I didn't mind the gunplay much. It was satisfying blowing people's heads off
>>12207457>but I didn't mind the gunplay muchThe first shooting level in the mall felt so fucking good, such a relief after all those tense stealth scenes. I don't hate the gunplay itself, I hate the fact that there is so much of it in a stealth game. Really the last 1/3 of the game after the plot twist just sucks man
So, I assume we all know that if you play on PS2 and use the SOCOM headset, the Director's voice is played directly in your earpiece. My question is: is there a way to replicate this on an emulator? I looked around in AetherSX2 settings but couldn't find any relevant option. It's probably not possible, but I thought I'd ask.
>>12207547>So, I assume we all know that if you play on PS2 and use the SOCOM headset, the Director's voice is played directly in your earpieceNice, didn't know
>>12207562Fuck yeah, anon! The game reroutes the Director's lines through the headset, and removes them from the main (TV) audio. Also, instead of tapping on walls to lure hunters, you can speak into the mic. Sucks when you're sneaking up for a red kill and then sneeze.
>>12207574>instead of tapping on walls to lure hunters, you can speak into the micNo fucking way
>>12207547Does the Xbox version do the same if you have an Xbox Live chat headset plugged in?
>>12207072controls, gameplay and fixed cameras didin't help at least in manhunt's xbox version
>game where you die in literal seconds turns into a full-blown TPS halfway throughBravo, Rockstar. Whenever I want to replay this game I just remember about shit like Wrong Side of the Tracks and Border Patrol and get turned off instantly. Can't imagine doing this on Hardcore, let alone going for 5 stars
>>12207629I don't know. I never played it on Xbox.
>>12207072It sucked. I know because I rented it and it sucked. My friends were talking about buying a copy and I told them not to bother because it sucked. They said "but it got banned in australia" and I told them because it sucked so bad the government banned it.
>>12207878>xbox versionYou need to switch to the alternate control style. Makes the game so much better and the PS2 version obsolete.
>>12207072>And unlike Siren for example the atmosphere alone isn't enough to carry itSiren absolutely fucking sucks. Outside of like, 3 or 4 of the perspectives you play as in the game, it's complete dogwater. As for the game being annoying, it has moments here and there where it can become more tedious than challenging, but its got a great atmosphere. Highly memorable.
>>12207206>the stealth is binaryIt literally isn't though? You can literally run away and as long as you break line of sight (and I think they don't hear you) you can just jump into any shadowed area and they'll lose track of you, looking around the environment for a bit, before returning to their route. They also respond to noise, and if I recall, they have two levels of alert, where they can be investigative, and then suspicious. Investigative is when they haven't encountered you yet, and hear noise, and suspicious is when they have encountered you and hear noise, or if they hear gunfire. The stealth system is kind of simple, but it's not fucking binary. Binary would be MGS stealth.
>>12208379Good to know, Timmy. Go back to playing your shitty millionth Megaman sequel.
>>12208695This is /vr/ and you're expecting these fags to have actually played the game. Even in the shooting missions you can take advantage of the fact that it's not as simple as MGS by shooting some guys to lure others in and then ambushing them, except for the ones who are hard programmed to stay put at a location.
Aight I downloaded the 'uncut' version for the PS2 found it on rutracker , will try it later. The description says it's not actually some modded version but the leaked beta
>>12209259>uncut versionI mean Manhunt 2 obviously
Perfect game for boys in late elementary school. We used to be like "woah!!!!" "Brutal!"
>>12209873As opposed to nintendo games, which are for boys in arrested development who still live with their parents because they never grew up?
>>12209873The violence is not why this game is remembered so fondly, plenty of much more brutal shit since then. The biggest strengths of Manhunt are the incredible urban decay atmosphere combined with one of the best electronic soundtracks of all time. The game oozes with soul.
>>12210520> The biggest strengths of Manhunt are the incredible urban decay atmosphereYeah Rockstar does that shit really well, you can also feel it in GTA 3 but obviously it's not as extreme there
>>12207072Its only known for coming out at a time when people started getting mad about video games and the content they had again like they did in the early 90s.People bought Manhunt because it was the edgy killer game and this was the early 00s where people listened to Drowning Pool unironically
>>12210608The Warriors also seems to have it. Haven't played it yet, but it seems very tasty and somewhat a hidden gem of R* (at least compared to their other stuff).
>>12210520Well wasn't it made in Britain.
>>12210696Not surprisingly, yeah. Brits just can't help themselves but I can't blame them. Even stuff like Banjo has a layer of depression to it
>>12207072It's one of the naughty sounding titles. Similar titles include ring of red, pole position, fur fighters, golden eye. I'm sure there are others heavy on the innuendo.
>>12210520I can't help but snicker at retards who see violence in a game and immediately begin concocting strawmen in their mind for which random generalized group they could vocally attach it to. As if they're standing up to some bully from 15 or 20 years ago. The mark of an insane, insecure, schizo for sure. But violence is an attraction to the series. Because violence is FUN.
>>12208379you got traumatized cuz ur retard parents let you rent it, and then you crusaded against it and said it sucked.you apparently haven't grown up enough to realize it.
>>12210520This is one of the main games infamous Jack Thompson went after if I remember, this basically gave the game a huge amount of publicity to both the pro-gamer media of the time(from xplay to penny arcade) and to all the kiddies who heard about the edge violence of Manhunt and HAD to get it!
>>12207083It's an interesting story based around a private sector engaging in what is essentially MKULTRA mind control pushed to the extreme. It's really sick shit honestly. I enjoyed playing it the first time for the shock value but if you really mull over the story being told it's actually quite horrific.
>>12210742cool story bro
I really wish this game had a fear mechanic with the enemies. Throwing a severed head of an enemy into the line of sight of his fellow gang member from out of the shadows has got to be one of the most intimidating things anyone could do.
