They made a completely new handheld, with actual games, but they didn't market it at all, worse, they didn't even tell retailers it was an actual handheld and not an electronic gadget
It got 10 official games, 5 of these were Japan only, but these were real games, not just mini games
It had at least some power comparable to the Gameboy
...Only to barely do anything with it, what was the point? Even the games barely used the full power of the cartridges, which in reality could have at least 4 times more data
It even had wireless multiplayer for some games

And do what with it? It was 2001, and even compared to the DMG it’s archaic; has about a quarter the resolution, no grayscale, very limited audio output. The GBA, which is compatible with most the GB library including actual Pokemon games, was out for only twice the cost. It was just a quick cash grab during the waning days of Pokemania.

Many such cases
>what was the point?
To sell yet another gadget to pokefags. What else do you imagine it might have been?

This thing is basically a fancy happy meal toy be real

I saw this in a shop when I was young actually, but I had no ideas what they were, and it was more elaborate than I thought
Like I thought it was some crappy virtual pet thing back then

Pokemon Tetris on this is kino, launch a pokeball when you clear 4 lines to catch the rotating cast of pokemon, some only appear on certain game modes, and there's a patch to include the 2 legendaries

It has an interesting gimmick of letting you flip your tetromino, so you can swap between J and L, or S and Z pieces.
It's not especially important to regular modes that only have tetrominoes and arguably makes it too easy, but it's invaluable when you start playing modes with pentaminoes.

I don't understand why the zoomer generation is irredeemably retarded. It's like critical thinking skills just stopped developing in that generation. They have wealth of information and yet cannot come up with basic conclusions.

In the US it was a PokemonCenter exclusive. What happened was this was meant to be something like Pocket Pikachu that could play later games but they never got to actually making a Pocket Pikachu 'game' for it.
The problem was it released when the Pokemon fad had just died, so there was no one who cared.

Most likely you saw some similar looking bootleg LCD garbage "in a shop" and when you saw the youtube imagined that's what you'd seen.

Everyone born after 2000 grew up in a childhood never before experienced by any living person. Everyone else got to experience more or less the same childhood. Oh sure, those born after 1950 probably had TV's at home, and those born after 1980 probably had videogames at home, but it was mostly the same experience. Everyone after 2000 grew up with 24/7 internet access and the majority of society being online. Say the wrong thing and have it recorded, and your entire school will never let you forget about it. For our generation and previous generations, the past was a fading memory. For the post 2000's generations, everything is forever.
Doing the exact same as everyone else is safe. Having an idea and speaking it out loud can get your life destroyed. In this environment, children are heavily encouraged by their own peers to conform and be mindless. I'm glad I grew up in the 80's and 90's, I have no idea how I would have turned out if I was growing up post 2000.

I really like the Pokemon Mini but I'm not sure if it's because it's awesome or if it's just because I'm an autistic retard who likes LCD games/toys. I really like shit like Digimon and Tamagotchi, so for me this fits in perfectly with that stuff.

That being said, Pokemon Shock Tetris is probably my favorite cart for it which is silly because Tetris is on everything but I like this version a lot.

Anon, you could literally only buy this at what's now the Nintendo store in NYC.

You'd be a 12/10 on the schizo scale instead of an 11
>>
>>12207832
Wow this really was a full handheld. This whole time I thought it was like one of those Tamagotchis.
>>

And what "whole time" might that be?

Late 90s I guess, I never had one of these

I think this is more pertinent point of your post. (The rest of it is a rant). Gen Z does not have nostalgia, it just has circular trends.

>you could literally only buy this at what's now the Nintendo store in NYC.
You mean you could only *officially* buy them at the nintendo store.
There was an import retailer near me who had them. Given the price they wanted I could imagine they simply bought them retail and added a markup. But maybe they had "a guy" who could sneak some off the supply truck. I never asked.

So you haven't thought for roughly 25 years. Explains a lot.

It had a pocket pet game, but yes it was just too late and poorly supported.

Actually just bought one because I couldn't recall knowing it existed till recently and was enamored it is its own handheld with cartridges. Bought a second from Japan online just so I can get some bundled games (Tetris, Pinball) because they are retard price individually. Waiting for it.

>>12207694
this nigga wanted to play a jrpg on this shit kek zoomies are so corny.
expected a masterpiece to be released on this thing to justify it? It was a toy david, nothing more.

>>
>>12213830
it's not a thing you really play, it's like a tamagotchi where you check in on it throughout the day and then put it back in your pocket. also it had an accelerometer to track your steps.
>>
I was given one at a Ruby/Sapphire launch event and used it primarily as an alarm clock and stopwatch for many years.

It has an interesting hardware design choice in that the save files are saved to the console, and there are few available slots meaning they couldn't realistically release too many titles for it.
>>
>>12208635
You could buy it online, too. Also pretty certain they liquidated stock to other sellers in the later 2000s, because i specifically got mine for 20 bux from VGP Canada's website. Funnily enough, i found games for it as a local pawn shop.

What if I told you there's a signifficant chance that OP is actually over 30 but lives outside of the 1st world and that's probably the majority of people still browsing this site for the past 10-15 years?
