MD version is a fanport so I don't think it's worth comparing.

Wolfenstein 3D's engine was made to be run and rendered using the CPU of home computers which usually lacked graphical hardware so it makes sense the Genesis can do it better.

snesnoys…i thoughted the mode 7 was suppozed to prevent this

might as well be a koan desu

Why? Its not using expansion tech. This is 100% what the game would have been in 93 or so.

Fan ports have infinite time and so they always have time to play to a consoles strengths. Look at Final Fight CD vs Final Fight MD. The devs for the SNES port of Wolfenstein were on a limited time frame to deliver a port of Wolfenstein when people still gave a fuck about getting a port of that game

The SNES port was done in-house at ID Software and John Carmack himself was the lead programmer on that port. I think there was some kind of issue with the original team bailing and ID Software had to make the game themselves under a deadline. You can hear John Carmack talk about doing the ports here:

Unironically cool and thanks.

No it wouldn't have. A fairer comparison would have been with the huehue Duke Nukem 3d port.

The Genesis Wolf3D port is very good, its just a shame that due to Piko failing to secure an official release the whole thing ended up being dropped.

Nintendo should be ashamed of themselves.

The dithering doesn't look good on genesis, they should just lean into the limited colors but the snes is very low rez. The 3d sections of Jurrasic Park on snes are more advanced with stuff like elevators, light switches and interactive terminals. Even Duke 3d on genesis is done pretty well but they made it insanely hard because I guess there are only a few levels.

Would have been cool but as a game its just a repetitive maze.

was not even aware there was a genesis version. its weird, so many snes games i never even played are burnt into my brain just because i remember seeing the boxes everywhere. same is not true for the genesis despite me also owning one.

Dithering is one of those things that honestly prevents be from getting a better quality cable for my Genesis. Composite might look smeary and bad but it's the only output that handles dithering tricks. There's just far too many games that use it to blend colors or to fake transparency. I do wish there was a cable or box that could replicate the effect. I know Triple Bypass is a thing but I'd rather not do something destructive to my VA6.

>J-just emulate!
Fuck you.

Its using a modern compiler.
