~era 1~ The Golden Era of Arcade Games, from late 70s to mid 80s, games like Space Invaders, Pac-Man and DK ruled the world.~era 2~ The Golden Era of Console Games, mid 80s to late 90s. The eternal Sega vs Nintendo war, the original Playstation, the last Sega console~era 3~ The Golden Era of PC gaming, 2000s to 2010s.Standarization of home computers all around the world, cheap fast internet allowed for MMOs and military shooters
Unrelated but this album fucking sucks. Instead of getting YMO style reinterpretations of classic game music it's just the original arcade music with some sound effects sprinkled in. This is Namco! and Namco Classic Collection clear.
>>12210013Yes but it is the first ever video game music album.
>>12210001Let me simplify it for you>4th gen>5th gen>6th genThat's the retro golden era
1-2G=scoring era very simplistic games mostly single screen with a focus on scoring 3-4=classic eraScrolling and save/password system became the normFinishing the game become the main objective, scoring is now secondaryEstablishment of many genres and classic franchises5-6G experimental era From 2D to 3D,optical format, arcade style games slowly getting replaced by more immersive games, more emphasis on story and cinematographyVery experimental in terms of game design and gameplay, need to rethink how games works in 3D7G-now casual eraGames too expensive so developper caters to casualsDeath of innovation Entire genres streamlinedInternet connectivity, DLC,focus on online, death of crt and physical media...
>>1221000180-00s was the arcade eraconsole era was mid00s to mid 10smid10s to now is pc era
>>12210070>console era was mid00s to mid 10swut, you think 4rh gen wasn't the console era?
>>12210091arcades > console. gen 6&7 were the only gens were consoles were kingbefore gen6 consoles only had shitty pc ports and sloppy walking sim movie games. they were always chasing the arcade and always they were years behindafter gen 7 everything got released multiplat with pc
>>12210098>before gen6 consoles only had shitty pc ports and sloppy walking sim movie gamesWTF. Is this really what 6th genners believe?Raw graphics weren't everything back in retro. Plenty of the most popular video games of the 90s weren't in arcades
>>12210070Golden Age of arcades is 70s-80s, zoom zoomhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_age_of_arcade_video_gamesThis doesn't mean arcades stopped existing after that, simply that this was the time they were the dominating force in video games.
>>12210001Arcades were doing pretty good until Soulcalibur and Tekken Tag killed them by having console ports that were superiorConsole gaming was doing good from the release of the NES all the way to the Great Financial Crisis when nobody could afford to take risks and everyone scrambled to stay afloat by any means necessaryPC gaming had its best years from right around the late DOS era to the release of Windows Vista. GFWL, SecuROM, StarForce and other craptastic copy-protection solutions basically killed PC gaming for a few years until Steam took over at which point PC and console gaming homogenized with each other.
>>12210120Arcade was the cutting edge. Game design started to transition to saveslop RPGs to cater to consolekiddies but the biggest masterpieces of the 90s were all arcade games like Dodonpachi, Garegga, Puyo Puyo, Mr. Driller, the fighting games etcMultiplayer slop killed the arcades>>12210126that's an arbitrary meme name
>>12210001~era 4~ OP was born
Pre-2001 is the prehistoric era. No one really cares about it. Gaming didn't really "start" until the Gamecube came out. Everything before was just this primordial soup that's so undeveloped you can't even really see it's influences.
>>12210001This reads like is was cobbled together by zoomer from youtube videos and clickbait articles with zero nuance and totally american.
>>12210027You're wrong, it's 2nd to 4th. Peak arcades and the consoles that imitated them, adventure games were number crunchy before they turned into movie games, creativity was at an all time high with devs inventing genre cliches that would persist and be reiterated on forever. 5th-7th gen is pretty much all recycled design from the golden era with a focus on graphical fidelity and development scale
>>12211406I see that nobody disagrees, so I'll let you know I do. just kidding you're right
>>12214015Bitch you don't know me like that, fuck outta here
