Anyone played this game before? Just started it and I love the visuals. The voice acting flows really well too and the music is great. Platforming is simple but not offensive.Never heard a soul talk about Evil Twin for Dreamcast.
Is the first time that I hear of it, haven't play it, perhaps I will today.
>>12210931It has really good visuals and atmosphere but the game itself sucks shit through a straw. It genuinely feels like a cancelled game you'd download off of Hidden Palace or something. Get through the first 30 minutes and you'll see what I mean.
>>12210931I've played it on PC as a kid eons ago and always thought of it as some weird relative of McGee's Alice (given they came out a year or two apart). Absolutely loved the aesthetics at the start but I'm pretty sure my disc had some issues so I never made it past the first island. Like 20+ years later I finally reinstalled it to try it again, and, uh... it didn't age well.>the writing in the game is... weird - the voiceacting is fine but the plot tries to sound more deep and impactful than it actually is and the wording used for dialogues clash with reality of things (for example, two characters discuss some deep ass stuff and then figure out that a MacGuffin can solve their issues, so 10 seconds later MC goes into newest location that just opened up and gets the very MacGuffin 2-3 minutes later - it took more time for two NPCs to discuss this goddamn MacGuffin than to actually obtain it and forget about it for the rest of the game!)>past the first island you instantly get into this weird ship city (Folk City or something, forgot the exact name) and it has like HUNDREDS of small ass platforms so you can scream "UOOOOOOOH I'M PLATFOOOOORMING!" but you get tired of it halfway through... and then you get into flying city (Flyer City or something) and it's even more of pointless platforming; my issue is that the platforming never gets FUN in this game - you get new abilities and can backtrack to previous locations, but you never have fun with it because somehow the gameplay just doesn't try to make platforming and abilities an enjoyable experience>the story never leads to anything impactful - things happen but they don't matter and big bad is teased through the entire game but it's the obvious bad side of MC from his edgy sperging at the start of the game
>>12211113To summarize - by the end of the game it did feel like McGee's Alice but without good variety of weapons and 10/10 source material - pointless unfun platforming, plot tries to act deep in grimdark world but the reality is that it's based on smoke and mirrors (while original Alice itself is such a crazy mess that you can pull off an adaptation with 2deep4u story and grimdark aesthetics and it'll work) so the story falls apart and the abilities you get aren't really fun to use (and I forgot if backtracking even rewards you with something important)The most amazing fact is that this game was made by Ubisoft - Rayman 2 came out 2 years prior to this game, and while not perfect (and kinda dated by today's standards) it's a much better "3D platformer in grimdark world" experience that doesn't overstay its welcome. And 2 years after Evil Twin we got Beyond Good & Evil (another 3D platformer in grimdark world that's nowhere near ideal but miles better than Evil Twin) and Rayman 3 (the aesthetics are the opposite of Rayman 2'd and Evil Twin's but boy is it actually FUN) from the same company, so I have no idea how come Evil Twin ended up being such a slog of a platformer sandwiched by great platformers from the same company.
The platforming is fucking terrible as it's mostly jumping forward and back rather than left to right. that's more a problem of 3d platformers though, and I do agree the burton-esque theming is neat. king of mediocre 3d platformers
>>12214005It's been ages since I've played it on PC but I remember there being something horribly off about the platforming to the point where I questioned my own skills despite playing every fucking 2D and 3D platformer I could get my mitts on.Like, there was that one part during the ship segment where you had to hop across logs(?) to reach the whales(???) that pulled it which should've been a generic platforming section yet I somehow ended up wasting god knows how many lives on that shit.I dunno if it was the controls, the camera or the collision detection but it just felt like garbage which is a shame since I absolutely loved the art design.
>>12214005https://youtu.be/sdy-CO8jmMY?t=11520Found that part and fuck, the platforming already feels like shit just from looking at it.
>>12214140This is just Crash 1's High Road / Road to Nowhere but without the stuff that makes the experience fun. Also I like the obvious cuts between each "road" section, so you know whoever recorded this playthrough also had a "fun" experience with this platforming.
