I already have a handheld for retro gaming that I use while out and about (R36S). I'm looking to get a setup in my living room that can hook up to my TV and make use of a couple of old PS4 controllers I have laying around for some gaming at home and couch co-op.What hardware would you get for this? Would be nice if I could run up to PS1/PS2. PS3 would be a bonus, but am poorfag so I don't want to spend 100s.What would you do? Hardware/Software? Raspberry Pi? HP Elite desk G3? Is Batocera good?Sincerely, a newbie.
>>12211582Steam Deck + any dock (third party or first party doesn't really matter they're basically USB hubs with HDMI)Then just set up EmuDeckWill play any retro games you throw at it + PS3/360/Wii and even Wii U, Switch, and some PS4
>>12211582>Raspberry Pi?Avoid Raspberry, you will spend more than 100 and play only up to PS1.>HP Elite desk G3?I don't know his specifics, but downloading Batocera on the SSD can run PS2 on many office pc. I found one that could run PS2 for like 80 euros, but I'm from Europe
>>12211587This could be a nice straightforward solution actually.
>>12211587>>12211603Damn, Steam Decks are pretty pricey though.
>>12211582Ask ChatGPT which level of emulation the pc you have chosen can emulate with Batocera. You could easily find a pc around 100 or less that can play PS2, but PS3 is hard without a graphics card
>>12211582I have an Optiplex 3050 micro that I run Batocera on for my TV computer. It plays PS2 games good, but I haven't tried PS3.If you want to use Bluetooth controllers in Batocera, consult the list of supported dongles: https://wiki.batocera.org/hardware:compatible_dongle_list...I use a TP-Link UB500 which works for my controllers and headphones.
>>12211582the best price:performance prebuilt is an xbox 360 or ps3. sounds like a modded ps3 would work really well for you. they can emulate and phats even play ps2 games natively. personally i have a 360. for 360 there are workarounds to get other controllers workingif you want something more versatile and future proof, you can build a pc. if it's not leaving your home and you want to spend as little money as possible, dont go for sff like the pi or hp elite, go for the bigger cheaper alternatives
>>12211582>HP Elite desk G3?At least get a G4 so you can have six cores if you want to emulate PS3. The i5-8500 is commonly found in them and will be fine for light to medium PS3 games (taking into account that you need something like a Ryzen 9000 to get close to full speed in the really heavy ones like God of War 3 or the Uncharted games).>>12211807And ignore this total retard. The USFF and SFF Prodesk/Elitedesks are great emulation boxes (far, far better than a PS3 or 360) and available very cheap for what you're getting. You won't put together a better custom build for less.
>>12211807Making me wish I'd kept my PS3 instead of trading it in when I bought a PS4 back in the day.I am considering building a gaming PC next gen instead of buying a PS6 or whatever. Maybe I should just wait until I do that and then I don't have to have a separate system? I could just run Batocera or whatever is good alongside Steam on my main gaming rig?
>>12211821>And ignore this total retard>>12211829oh
>>12211829yeah. depending on the resolution of your monitor/tv you can even get away with building a budget pc now. 6600 gpu is cheap af and is a good 1080p 60fps card>>12211821And ignore this total retard. The USFF and SFF Prodesk/Elitedesks are meme emulation boxes (cant do PS3 or 360, or native gen 6, like a ps3/360) and available very overpriced for what you're getting. You won't put together a better custom build for less, but you can just buy the bigger version of those office prebuilts for cheaper than the sff meme version
>>12211582I've seen plenty of videos on Youtube recommending Amazon fire sticks.I got one because they were cheap on Black Friday sales ($30), it'll be delivered this week but basically should be OK for everything up to PS1. You can pair Bluetooth controllers/headphones with it and use Lemuroid/Retroarch/Duckstation/etc, FTP files over, etc.I don't know if it'll be any good but it's cheap enough that I'm willing to give it a try. I tried Batocera once but I don't have a PC on hand to install it on, but if you did, it'd be a good solution.Good luck finding a mini PC for less than $200 though
>>12212184>Good luck finding a mini PC for less than $200 thoughI bought a m910q thinkcentre for 60 bucks shipped about three months ago. While I don't use it for emulation (headless jellyfin server) it should do fine up to gen 6 as it is similarly spec'd to my t480 which does ps2 well enough.
>>12211582>HP Elite desk G3?Getting some bullshit like this or a ThinkCentre or some other tiny PC would be how I'd do it if I knew this PC would connect to my TV and nowhere else. Modern integrated graphics will be able to cover any pre-PS3 game you'll throw at them, and you'll have the bonus of being able to do any PC thing when you're done gaming, such as browsing YouTube or even reading 4chan from your TV. My biggest advice with this approach is to buy new (maybe wait until RAM prices calm down) instead of dumpster-diving or going to thrift stores; they'll last for about a year before breaking and then you'll end up having to go fish out another one again, which can be annoying.I personally did a custom SFF build for myself so I could also have a disc drive and a 4TB hard drive so that I can have full nointro sets on it, but if you're gonna build I'd say just build a full-sized PC with a GPU unless you really want the VCR look.>Raspberry Pi?Not worth it anymore since the full cost of one with all the stuff you'll need for an emulation box is about the same as a tiny PC except the Pi is less capable.
>>12211582A tablet with HDMI output so that you can use it as a console when plugged into a TV, or a big handheld with a telescopic controller.
>>12211582Just get a PS3 and a PS2 and softmod them. Boom, problem solved. Theres nothing else besides a PC that can do ps3
>>12211625they're not so bad refurbished and they'll be even cheaper once the new one drops
