How did they do it? Not even the later Arma games come close to the levels of kino this one achieves.

I completed the original campaign fair and square, but if I remember correctly I wasn't so psyched about the Resistance addon. I made several campaigns with cutscenes and stuff lol, never actually submitted them to a magazine which I regret.

The ending genuinely made me sad. I kinda liked the slightly higher difficulty and being able to make your man capture equipment and having it in next missions.

I did not enjoy the russian one (red hammer?) at all though.

I didn't care much for Resistance either. It lost some of the atmosphere of CWC and the difficulty was absurd at times.

Wrong game, bucko.

>the best "war" game
Not even remotely close. The AI is as jank as jank can be, and the shooting feels nerfed of impact and satisfaction. The levels also mostly feel like the same vaguely hilly forests and valleys with copy-pasted model houses stapled to the ground in various areas. The only thing really going for it is the variety of approach, and the versatility, but again, because of its lackluster combat, it never really reaches its full potential. If we're talking "war games", there are so many better games, like Company of Heroes, or Call of Duty Big Red One, Call of Duty, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, Comanche vs Hokum, Napoleon Total War...There's too many that blow it out of the water.

Even if you narrow it down to first person tactical shooters, it's still got competition from Ghost Recon, Sniper Elite, Red Orchestra, and Brothers in Arms.

Dragon Rising was much better IMO. ArmA 2 was decent. They made the shooting much better.

I still remember the part in the campaign where you're hauling ass to the choppa to get the fuck off the island. Lots of great moments in the campaign. I still need to finish the campaign, I stopped playing when it became a fucking tank sim

Nigga, it's from 2001 and it was pretty much unique at the time.

It was very impressive technically at the time, which is where most of its positive reviews come in. The gameplay left a lot to be desired.

On my last playthrough I got Strange Meeting instead. After my team died near the end at Morton, I managed to grab a couple of launchers, camped in a bush and proceed to destroy every tank and kill all the infantry. Shit was cash. One of the reasons Resistance is so much harder is that there are no "invisibility" bushes on Nogova.
>>
>>12211985
I think armed assault was better, cwc was too buggy(even by arma standards) but maybe the steam version is broken idk
>>
>>12218034
Technically yes, but the campaign was shit. ARMA CWC is OFP running in ARMA engine.

>the shooting feels nerfed of impact and satisfaction.
It has some of the most satisfying shooting in any FPS ever. Nothing feels better than seeing an enemy running across a hill far away, aiming above his head a good meter or two, and leading the shot a good 3 or 4 meters, and nailing him with a headshot as he runs into the falling arc of the bullet.

Yea, except the recoil feels janky, the weapon sounds are weak, the impact-responses lag or are non-existent, and death animations are very mild.

You want "some of the most satisfying shooting in any FPS ever", you look at something like Perfect Dark, or Time Crisis, or FEAR, or Halo, or Return to Castle Wolfenstein.
