Which version is regarded as the best? Would you play this again if you could skip the magical nitro segment?

I wish LoD kept the level designs from the original Castlevania 64 for Carrie and Reinhardts campaigns. They redesigned almost all of the levels in LoD and if you're going to play each character's campaign that just means you're going to play the same set of levels like 4 times. I would actually just recommend playing the original release of C64 in its entirety, and then only playing Cornels campaign on LoD and that will show you basically everything the 2 games have to offer as Cornell in LoD goes through all the levels that got redesigned and the couple of new levels they added. Theres no reason to play as Carrie and Reinhardt on LoD when you can basically play a new set of levels on the original game.

that werewolf on the cover looks like he doesn't want to be there

Agree with this guy. The level redesigns in LoD were mostly for the worst. The Tower of Sorcery in particular got a huge downgrade; it's very colorful and vibrant in C64, but in LoD it's mostly the same shade of gray/green.

I only played the first version and no I wouldn't play it again because it was boring. I barely remember the nitro part; that wasn't a problem for me. The game was fine but I just didn't really care for it. I'd play it if somebody went back in time and convinced Konami to make it 2D and more interesting. That is what it would take.

I already told you in the previous thread that they play better in LoD. You also get the redesigned stages without the shitty changes in Cornell's Castle Wall and Villa levels.
