It's not bad but I enjoyed Bomberman 64 and Hero more. I'd rather have one big level to explore than a succession of small rooms, plus some of the "puzzles" were a bit shitty (gotta love hidden doors that need to be broken where the camera can't see it, for instance) and man does that story suck ass. It's like WORDS WORDS WORDS WORDS just to say nothing within the most generic plot imaginable, the whole thing's tim buckley tier; and if you die on a boss you have to go through the cutscene again.
>>12214982For what it's worth, it's still better than Hero and Generation. Bomberman's first 3D game is also his best.
You should think of it more like each world is effectively a zelda dungeon. The rooms aren't just random small rooms, they're hallways, corridors, chambers, of a larger dungeon. It is the most zelda-like of all the Bomberman games in that regard, and I've never seen anybody criticize that design choice for Zelda games.
>>12214982Too many anime ass side characters, too
>>122150433D zeldas still have bigger rooms to break up the pace, without mentionning the world beyond the dungeons
>>12215251That's actually what makes the game interesting, is that while it is 3d, the game design is closer to an SNES game, with the fixed overhead camera perspective. It is more like a 2D Zelda dungeon in 3D.I agree that it would be cool to have the non-dungeon stuff, but really what would it even be? You're in outerspace and everything is light years apart. You don't really have an opportunity for a hub world.
For me it's Bomberman 64 (2001)
>>12214982It takes too long to evolve pommy
>>12219192I was thinking the game needs a way to deactivate the little shit who never was useful once and always got in the way, but it just occured to me that I could simply have activated 2P control for it and let it sit there. Damn.
>>12214982i liked 64, i thought the puzzles were quite creative and an interesting use of his powershero felt like a step back in that regard, it was more expansive and streamlined but it felt a bit braindeadis second attack more like 64 or hero? i never played it, it wasn't even released here
>>12215043>It is the most zelda-like of all the BombermanYou clearly didn't play this
>>12219997It's more like 64 but with a succession of small rooms rather than fewer big areas. You solve puzzles using bombs and you acquire new bombs which act both as new attack methods and new methods to solve puzzles.
>>12214982Eh, I liked Second Attack more than Hero, though I played Hero when I was a kid and Second Attack some 15+ years after that.>>12219997Control and view-wise it's more like 64 but it is far less puzzle-focused.
>>12215251Big zelda rooms hardly ever have interesting puzzles
>Not enjoying the kino early-2000s anime batshit crazu Power Rangers X Bible plot where you fight Satan and AngelSatan
One of my favorite childhood games I loved it
>>12220009I have played it, and it is zeldalike only superficially. It's more pokemonlike. It's only really zeldalike because it has an overworld, but then so does Pokémon. TSA actually feels like trudging through multiple Zelda dungeons, which is the real heart of the ter?
Bombp
Every other kid I knew that played this back in the day hated it just because the default starter bombs returned to having cross-shaped explosions instead of 64's spherical ones.
>>12228442The cross shape is kinda shitty during boss fights when the camera rotates around the boss and you no longer know where those 4 directions are
>>12228442This was my first bomberman game and it set way too high of a bar for the series. If this is the first game you play, first bomberman 64 is super boring in comparison, as are all the 2D games. But also the ice bomb is basically the older spherical bomb
>>12228646I liked Bomberman 64 but I didn't care enough to 100% it Hero though, I liked enough to do that
The better Bomberman 64 we should have got.
>>12228442>trivialMaybe in singleplayer. Multiplayer is ruined by this. You have 4 terribly underpowered players running around big empty maps. This was already a problem in the first 64 game, but is taken to another level by cross-shaped explosions and the fact Kick and Power Glove are no longer built-in. The stranded island map is comically bad. Nobody playtested this.
>>12228442>he didn't use the cross shape explosion to bounce against diagonal walls to fuck with peopleNha it was great
Getting hit is just abysmal in this game. You wobble about dazed for like 3 seconds while your heart leaves you, during which you'll get hit again, losing the previous heart while a new one falls out of your re-dazed ass.
