Everyone misses the point about Sniper. Bullshit melee range flick shots and his counter negation unlocks are only symptoms of the problem, which is he gets way too many chances to deal a lot of damage way too fast for how little risk he incurs save facing another Sniper. To put an arbitrary number to it, long-range headshots are 80% as effective as backstabs, can be thrown out 80% as fast, and incur 10% of the risk and planning of Spy, who fills a similar role. The fact that he scopes and shoots too fast, has inconsistent at best threats at long range besides another Sniper, and has the ammo reserves to camp has been the real issue since day one. A miss has little meaning to Sniper, unlike the potential death sentence it is to every other class. He'd be fine if he maintained his current damage and reloaded slowly enough to realistically get rushed down or eat a flare to the face if he chose to follow up his first shot in an engagement

why do people who don't even main spy keep repeating this talking point? spy is meant to be the wild card, he's not supposed to be as reliable as sniper or any other character for that matter. if he was consistently good in every situation he'd as be overpowered as he is in the meet the team video. that said, it'd be nice if they fixed all his bugs, got rid of the spawning outlines by default, swap how the ambassador and diamondback are balanced (i don't mean revert them mind you), and let the YER gain cloak while under cloak.

things are different in tfc. he can cripple the enemy team by shooting them in the leg which obviously as well as shoot his teammates across the map. if you rush him down, then he'll just pull out his automatic rifle and usually kill you first. note how none of this has to do with the basic idea of sniping.

The thing is, Organized play in old TF, sniper kind of defeats the point of going offense, the game is fast paced and there is instant respawn times, so doesnt matter if you brute force your way through the enemy base, if you kill the sniper, he will come back, unlike in TF2 where the sniper can still be a problem but if you kill him he will be gone for around 15 seconds

Maybe in TFC organized games, but FortressOne Pyro was buffed a fair amount and sees regular play on both offense and defense in 4v4.
Not sure about Fortress Forever 4v4, it's been a long time since I've played the game at all and I know that Pyro got a bit of an overhaul.

-What is TFC about compared to TF2?-

TFC is a faster paced Team Fortress game, more closer to Quake in terms of pace, general DM and gameplay style (more objective focused and less player vs player interactions)

Main system and mechanics from TFC are :

>Universal Bhopping
Everyone has access to movement in someway, but not every class moves the same, HWguy cannot reach places where the Soldier or Demolitions can, but Scout and Medic can jump freely without health cost for example

>Instant Respawn times
Pacing is more linear, K/D ratio is not that important, doing the objective is more valuable than clearing the enemy's territory, moving the flag even one extra meter from the objective, it's still a good indicator of progress

>Linear pacing
Games can end instantly if a player manages to sneak or capture the objective skillfully, and vice versa, defending teams win by defending effectively, and the offense team wins by touching the capture point at all costs

>Grenades
Grenades are used for DM, area control, or for movement, contrary to the popular belief, some maps provide limited grenades or no grenades at all to the attacking or defending team, making the only way to have grenades is via a grenade pack, which are located on the map, such packs are a important part of the map for players to control, the spam in this game can be unforgiving, however, this is nullified by the fact that you can pass through enemy defenses with movement and instant respawn times alleviate failures more compared to dying to spam in TF2

-Why play TFC over TF2?-

Bhop at light speed, concussion jump, then take the flag to the objective at 1000km/h and win the round, or fight and defend against hundreds of attackers in mere minutes and airshot them before they touch the objective point is really fun!

Iconic TFC pub, really old, it has a no bhop plugin and it contains some small but noticeable custom pickups on the map, this is server contains regulars, always has players most of the time

If you want some map variety, this is the server for you, this server has regulars like Drippy's

>Humans vs Bots server
Contains regulars, a more co-op and laid back experience, if you want to hang out with people or you want to destroy many enemies with Engi's EMP or a MIRV, this is the server for you, it can be fun

>Old School Team Fortress (OST)
Contains regulars, this server is active at night time and weekdays, this is the tryhard server, this server is mostly A/D maps

90% of sniper mains in c*sual on TF2 are cheating. This is made evident by the fact that when I play on community servers that have actual moderators and anticheats, I rarely ever come across a sniper I find to be "problematic".
Also most weapons that were good at dealing with snipers (ambassador, sandman, ulapool caber) were nerfed into uselessness.
