I’m a ’95 N64 enjoyer and FPS fag (we had an IBM NetVista too), and when I asked for a GameCube, I assumed Rare would deliver a Perfect Dark sequel, a Jet Force Gemini follow-up, or a new TPS. I figured id Software might let someone like Midway or Iguana develop an exclusive Quake III Arena version or a Doom 64 sequel running on id Tech 3. I expected the same greatness I experienced on the N64, but the Cube ended up feeling like the opposite--basically just a childish console. I was 8 when I got it, and even then it felt too childish. Then Sega suddenly showed up: Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Monkey Ball, F-Zero GX... I was blown away by Silicon Knights’ Eternal Darkness and Rare’s Starfox Adventures (though Wind Waker felt way too childish for me at the time). It was a fun system, but not as great as the N64. After my parents divorced, my dad gave me an Xbox over the summer, and that was exactly what I thought the GameCube was supposed to be. I didn’t expect Sega to carry the Cube, but the big hitters like Panzer Dragoon and Shenmue were on Xbox. As a standalone console, it was disappointing, but as a complement to my Xbox, it was fantastic.

Its got a handful of good games, but not as many as previous Nintendo consoles and also most aren't as good as what came before. Many of the big games are pretty divisive too. I'm ride or die for Mario Sunshine, I think its the only good 3D Mario, but saying that would get me killed by a mob. I really don't like Wind Waker, not for some stupid reason like the art style I just genuinely think it's a bad game in terms of design and pacing and is overall the worst 3D Zelda excluding the Switch games. I love Metroid Prime 1 and 2. I love both Star Fox games, especially Assault. Melee is great. I like Pikmin 1, mostly for the atmosphere I don't think it's a particularly deep or challenging or even very fun game so for that reason I don't like Pikmin 2 because it ditches all the great areas from 1 for soulless caverns and is a lot longer and outstays its welcome. F-Zero GX is great but I like X more. Twilight Princess is great even though the pacing is dogshit, OoT and MM play better and are way smoother rides. I like Animal Crossing but it was on N64 first. Luigis Mansion is pretty good and original. Chibi Robo I thought was charming but its my least favorite Love de Lic adjacent game I did not enjoy actually playing it. And that's about all I have to say about the cube, I personally don't really care for anything else on the console not even the Capcom games.Meanwhile I could go on for hours about how many N64 games I adore and like more than their cube counterparts, including tons of 3rd party stuff not just the same games everyone knows. NES and SNES same thing. Definitely some great Cube games but the quantity just isn't there even for Nintendo standards.

>>12229349No it fucking isn't lol. Use the latest nightly build and switch the graphics rendering to software mode and the entire library looks and plays flawlessly. Meanwhile Dolphin still has frame pacing issues, rendering errors in many many games, some games just run like complete shit unless you turn on a ton of settings that make graphical inaccuracies happen and make the emulation overall less accurate. It's a complete shitshow for anything that isn't the very most famous games. Dolphin may have been the best emulator of all time like a decade ago but it's being outclassed by everything else these days. Genuinely hope someone new comes along and just releases a new GC emulator all together.

Why was Sunshine the only mainline Mario title? They could have used that engine to make a better, more polished sequel that fixed the flaws of Sunshine.
