It still holds up to this day, while most games of its era do not. Pure timeless classic.
>>12229691We will never get a mind blowing advancement of the art form like HL2 again. Nothing released since even compared. The last truly revolutionary game.
>>12229691>so pathetic as to start such an obvious falseflag bait threadhlschizo-kun...
>>12229698How is it bait if HL2 is an extremely popular and well liked game?
Fuck op and fuck the concept of bait. Give it to me straight, /vr/. Did you pick up that can? This is now a memorable NPC thread.
>>12229860What if I didn't at first, then went back and did so to see if anything would happen?
>>12229692>We will never get a mind blowing advancement of the art form like HL2 again.wow a movie game with a physics gimmick, incredible
>>12230139Anyone who derides HL2 wasn't even born when it was released. You just don't get it. It was pure magic that is utterly incomprehensible for zooms who were raised on a steady diet of soulless slop.

>>12229692It wasn't revolutionary. It didn't change the gaming paradigm. It just extended the Overton window of public demand for good graphics and good storytelling. But most games have ignored that to this day and were still successful. Truly revolutionary games are Super Mario Bros and Super Mario 64 because the vast majority of games copied their blueprints. Genre specific examples are Daytona USA and thr first Fifa game.
>>12230232>Daytona USAwhat in god's name did an arcade racer with 1 car and 3 tracks "revolutionize"
>>12230271Not sure what that anon will say, but I remember when the Daytona arcades hit, and it was huge. Cruisin was the other big one, but I dont think they came out at the same time. Before them, a lot of the arcade racers still had you standing up, with a little foot pedal down near the bottom.Sitting in a car seat with those giant screens, and especially being able to race someone right next to you, was a massive game changer. There were lines for those.
>>12230338thinking more on it, Daytona was also the first I remember as being a lot more like actually driving. Even with Cruisin USA, you mashed the gas pedal to the floor and just steered. With Daytona, you had to at least consider gears and braking. You had to learn to take corners from the outside to the inside, and worry about oversteering.
>>12230339cruisn had manual transmission option. speaking of which has an arcade racer ever had a clutch pedal? i remember trying to start my dad's truck when my parents werent home after playing cruisn just out of curiousity. i finally managed to turn the engine on after pressing the mysterious third pedal, then killed it as i let it go.
>>12230342A quick search shows Daytona and Cruisin both came out in 94. I'm sure someone on here knows which was actually first, but it was a good, if heavy investment year, for arcades.Probably some of the first 3 and even 4 quarter games, as well.
>>1223027140 thousand troops I mean cars on screen nope the course twas
>>12229691>Oh my science a first person shooterTruly a revolution
>sex-life 2norman: the game
>>12229691HL2 is a pretty famous doom clone
>>12231330>t. never played doom or hl2 in his life
HL1>EP2>OP4>HL2>EP1>BSTeam Fortress 2 is Valves best game in spite of the micro transaction stuff BTW.
>>12229691We are in the valley between HL2's release and HL2's reappraisal. A lot more criticism for 2 has come out of the woodwork because there's no 3 to compare it to.
>>12231863>multiplayer-only slop is valve's best game
>>12231869You can play it with bots.
>>12230146>EVERYONE WHO DOESNT AGREE WITH ME IS... LE ZOOMTARD BOOGEYMAN!!played half life 1 and 2 when it came out. confirmed my belief pc vegans have extremely low standards.
As much as I love Half Life 2....Doom 3 and Halo 2 are also well regarded in my book. I'll gladly go back and play through all three of those.
>>12232065oh and crysis. It was only 3 years after Half Life 2 and it's still my favorite tech demo
