>what's a good name for our cave level?
>how about "dust hill zone"?
>brilliant, put it in
>>
Same people who thought "Genocide City Zone" was a good idea for a name
>>
>>12233579
but that's kino
>>
But WHO lives in the Dust Hill Zone?
>>
>>12233714
No one, that's why it's full of dust.

>During development, the Zone was known by the working titles of Desert Zone, Desert World, and simply Desert by members of both the American and Japanese sides of Sega Technical Institute. Around the turn of the millennium, community speculation over its prerelease mockup image infamously attributed the erroneous name Dust Hill Zone to the mysterious Zone, inferred from a piece of Yasuhara's early concept art (as some English speakers use the word dusty as a close synonym for sandy) - despite Dust Hill Zone actually being the prerelease name for the final's Mystic Cave Zone.
Interesting

>(as some English speakers use the word dusty as a close synonym for sandy)
So what do Japs look at cold, damp caves with vines and other plant life and say "looks dusty to me"
>>
>>12233806
Not that anon but I think they say dusty as in "abandoned"
>>
>>12233810
Suppose that would make sense
Mystic Cave is a pretty stupid name too, I don't know what's so "mystical" about it, but it's genius compared to Dust Hill

Wood Zone and Desert Zone always seemed more interesting to me
Maybe it's because we already knew a lot more about Hidden Palace that the more obscure zones stood out to me
of course later we would find out this was because what we'd seen was as far as they ever got
>>
>>12233738
People didn't really start giving a shit about things until 2003, and really didn't pearl clutch half as hard at shit like this until around 2014. You even use to have swastikas in games where you fought nazis until the 2nd Obama admin
>>
>>12233854
Zoomer detected. Anon, soccer moms were shitting their panties over Dungeons and Dragons have demon references in its monster manual. Pokemon was aggressively fear-mongered for promoting gambling and being akin to "cock fighting". You have no idea.
>>
>genocide city zone
>sonic zips past gas chambers, mass graves and skin lamps

can you imagine the kino

Full of green dust.
>>
>>12233720
green dust?
>>
as a kid, i thought the green rocks in mystic cave zone were shrubs or bushes or some other kind of plant
>>
>>12233579
It was a political statement.
>>
>>12234882
None of that stuff was actually banned. When conservatives want something gone, no one gives a shit. When progressives want something gone, it gets gone.

enough with the victim complex faggot. most red states have enacted porn nannygate laws in the past several years.

Do you not know what banned means?
>>
>>12235215
you're banned from freely visiting porn sites unless you surrender your identity to some shitwipe 3rd party AI company that will be leak everything in a couple years. sounds like you don't know what it means.

Unfortunately it would have been another 3 acts of Metropolis
Which can also be considered a crime against humanity I suppose
>>
>>12235412
>this board thinks metropolis zone is hard
of fucking course it does
>>
>>12235196
technically every state requires age verification for adult content, most states just never enforced it
>>
>>12234882
yeah yeah we know, but no one threw a fit over the genodome in chrono trigger right? technically it was censored from 'genocidome' but the idea was still very blatant
>>
>>12235417
you know something can be boring and annoying without being hard right
>>
>>12235412
>it's called genocide city because i want to commit genocide after playing those godawful metropolis stages
>>
>>12235424
if that were the case they wouldn't need to pass completely new laws on it.

Legally, no. Still had a chilling effect. D&D had to rename all of their demons.
>>
>>12233738
The real interesting part to me is not that Genocide City goes on forever, it's that Chemical Plant and Casinio Night are END of the game Zones. I can't even imagine those with higher difficulties, they're so ingrained in my head as early start levels.
>>
>>12235760
Metropolis and Oil Ocean were supposed to be early on too if the level select is anything to go by

Nearly two years ago, the Video Game History Foundation put out a great video about Sonic 2's pre-production and cut content.
They were aiming very ambitious with Sonic 2 and wanted a theme of Robotnik's industrialization and ecologically disastrous transformation of South Island over time, with the zones being less natural as the game progresses.

it is what it is m8, try walking into an adult video store in california as a 12 year old and see what happens
the same exact laws apply to the internet, most states just don't know or care how to enforce them there
>>
>>12235196
Michigan soon btw lol
>>
>>12235858
>an adult video store
IRL difference is i show the cashier my ID who simply looks at my birthday, i pay in cash and there will be no record of who bought the purchase or that i was ever there (aside from maybe cameras but no one's going back to look at them unless there's a subpoena)
