ps1 is the best jrpg system but everything else is borderline unplayable. imagine having a "3d console" with digital controls for an entire generation. without nintendo we would still be using fucking tank controls. but at least ps1 has good turn based games and some good 2d games, unlike the ps2 which is 100% garbage aside from like a dozen games.

Played it for hours and thought it was amazing. But any time I've gone back to it I've found it slow and plodding. A lot of early 3D titles were like rough drafts that got immediately surpassed by their follow-ups, so there's a kind of incongruity with how we remember their impact on release vs. what they're actually like to play today. I imagine some of the PS1 library doesn't hit the same now for people trying it for the first time but if you were playing it the first couple years of the PS1's existence it was fucking amazing. Zoomers will never understand
