The great debate
>>12234734Alpha 3 is more fun with better characters but the custom combo version of some characters is broken with infinites, Alpha 2 is more balanced
>>12234734Will the Mandatory Unhealthy Relationship with Media Police fine or beat me up if I simply appreciate both?
sf is inherently boring
>>12234757Secondary detected.
>>12234734I prefer 3 because I had it before 2. Pwned.
>>12234761It's the least aggression based 2D fighter. It's a game of turtles and zoning. It's inherently Onions even if I love it so I kinda understand people who think it's boring.
Street fighter is the most strategic fighting game. It's all about turtles and zoning.
>>12234734Alpha 2 just doesn't have enough character variety at the high level. The new release of Alpha 3 Double Upper with the extra characters is the very best Street Fighter Alpha game. Also honorable mention to CVS1 Pro, a very underrated game that remains unexplored competitively.
SFA3 is better but SFA2 still has some things going for it.
Alpha 3 Upper uber alles
>>12237067I agree but the alpha 2 heads could say the same thing in reverse
IIIrd Strikes mogs it hard and fucks. Alpha/Zero accepts it and watch.
>>12237245Nah, alpha 3 has the better roster and 2nd impact is the best SFIII anyway
>>12234734sfa3 on ps1 world tour mode with custom characters you can build up then use in different modes
>>12234734i like A3 for the infinitesi like A2 for the balanceA3 to goof off with friends drinking late on friday nightsA2 on fightcade
>Alpha 2Fundies game>Alpha 3Brazilian game
>>12234734At the time it seemed like Alpha 3 was the bigger hit but FGC influencers like Max Dood prefer Alpha 2.
>>12237352Alpha 3 and tekken 3 are the best single player fighting games ever made. Typically fighting games only offered an arcade and training mode, world tour mode in SFA3 and the slew of different modes in tekken 3 were monumental for single player experiences. Soul blade also had a robust single player mode as well as 6th gen MK entries, but alpha 3 and tekken 3 were more popular games in a generation that still had fighting games as a juggernaut genre. Soul blade was an early 5th gen release that was outshines by subsequent soul calibur entries, and MK was no where near its zenith in the 6th gen. Tekken 3 and SFA3 are still noted as the best entries by enthusiests of those franchises where few will name deadly alliance or soul blade as the peak of the series (though those arguments could be made). The FGC now is primarily a niche genre built on competitive play, where the idea of offline play is usually just autists in training modes. But prior to online play it wasn't a guarantee you'd have someone to play the game with so the deep 1P modes were vert addictive and endearing. It's why I rate SFA3 so high, I sunk a lot of hours into unlocking evil Ryu and guile and few fighting games have ever provided that level of single player depth.
>>12234734Potentially stupid question: can the version of A3 on Capcom Fighting Collection 2 with the MAX characters be extracted into a standalone rom? I kinda want to make my own custom "Alpha 3 Max" arcade machine, but if it's not possible then I won't bother starting.
>>12239216Hard to say for sure unless someone digs into the data. Given that the "extra characters mode" seemingly unlocks other changes from Alpha 3 Max (compared to previous versions of Alpha 3), it might be stored as its own separate game.
i cant take seriously a game where half the roster are shotos
>>12239250But enough about Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter...
Isn't vanilla 2 considered better than gold?
>>12237367> sunk a lot of hours into unlocking evil Ryu and guile and few fighting games have ever provided that level of single player depth.I had fun in this way with Rival Schools.
>>12234734I prefer Alpha 2, I'm not a pro / FGC player, I don't care about balance, I just prefer SFA2 and I don't know why.I also prefer The New Challengers over Super Turbo.
Since the OP uses Gold I just want to say it's kind of astonishing they managed to add an arranged soundtrack that sucks absolute monkey balls compared to a fucking CPS2 sound chip.
>>122347343 is chaos by comparison, but gave us Karin.2 gold for some reason raised the cost of the alpha counter, so it made it for less opportunity to play a reversal game...

>>12237275>>Alpha 2>Fundies gamehuh?
>>12234734>alpha 2 goldshouldnt you compare it to zero 3 upper? contrarians will say a2 > a3 but most people who actually play fighting games know 3 is better and more interesting.
>>122419573 is much more varied and deep with a bigger roster, balance fags will tell you 2 is more balance but that's debatable cope
>>12237367PS1 Street Fighter Alpha 3 is one of my all time favorites too anon. I remember keeping the system on for a day or so to unlock something - maybe survival mode. Definitely felt rewarding to get Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma
>>12237275Alpha 2 looby is filled with Brazilians and latinos>t.Brazilian Alpha 2 player
>>12240736Gold is more of a nerf patch all around with some few buffs that are in A3.>CC is a bit nerfed, requires 2 bars at least (iirc)>Alpha counter now requires 1.5 barsUnless you really want to play Cammy in Alpha 2 or is a Birdie player, there's nothing meaningfully good about Gold for you.
>>12241957>>12242378What makes A3 more varred? Name the depth it has.
>>12242816>What makes A3 more varred? Name the depth it hasIt's more varied in that it has e isms to play with with specific moves assigned to them (outside of custom combo) and bigger roster that adds more playstyles available. Beyond that the home port has over a dozen game modes
>>12243179NTA but the anon you're replying to is going to handwaive every correct point you made
>>12237367I bet those games just happened to come out when you were in your formative fighting game player years, didn't they.
>>12242804They all are. Fighting Games aren't popular in America really at all compared to other genres. As an American player any given games player base online is going to be full of browns and yellows. That anon is an actual homosexual Asian who LARPs as American and white and only likes Alpha 2 because of the pedobait and "pretty soundtrack" and Third Strike because "the animation is pretty" They don't play fighting games they just complain about brazillians, russians, and white trash incessantly like the ladyboy they are
>>12243993Not really, street fighter 2 came out when I was 7 and had owned and played>MK>MKII>SF2 Turbo>Eternal champions >Tekken 2>Killer instinct>Marvel super heroes vs street fighter>TMNT tournament fightersAll before I had alpha e and tekken 3. I hold them in such high regard because they did things the previous titles I had played didn't and subsequent titles failed to do.
>>12234734>CompFaggotryAlpha 2>CasualKinoAlpha 3
>>12243259I was not, i'm just going to say that i don't particularly care for those.
>>12244308If you were 7 in 1991, then you were 14-15 in 1999. Exactly the right age for Alpha 3 and Tekken 3 to be the peak of gaming for you.
>>12244323>>CompFaggotry>>Alpha 2lolno, alpha 2 literally gives the losing player a damage boost
I don't see what's so great about choosing between two good games.
Alpha 2 has better music so it wins.
>>12245705A bunch of the old Capcom games do that, it's not just an Alpha 2 thing.
>>12241352Evidence fallacy. If you have to wait with a long list of shit to "prove" your claim it means you're inherently biased and will delude yourself with as many straws as you can grasp and bend to make your point.
