Darius is based as fuck but everything else they did seemed to be very simple and lacked depth. Not a good developer overall IMO and Space Invaders is gay. Galaga is better.

Shit now I remember Ray Force. OK, MANY things they did were very simplistic. Personally I've never been a huge fan of Tatio in general.
>>
>>12235649
On what fucking planet is elevator action returns bad? Who didn't grow up with puzzle bobble? What about Rastan? I mean, compared to Konami or something, these guys have a pretty killer line up.

On what planet is it good? I wish Shiturn fags would stop overrating such boring game
>>
>>12235657
I guess I haven't played a significant number of Taito games, but the ones i did I just wasn't impressed with outside Darius or just didn't find them appealing. Maybe I should give them more of a chance DESU but I would also say Konami is a bit overrated too but just IMO.

Yes.

>>12235406
Taito made all their money in Space Invaders. After the great Japanese Space Invaders craze of the late 70s, Taito became patrician-tier Japanese arcade old-money.
>>
>>12235929
The business execs at Taito seem severely unhinged and mentally ill. They remind me of Sega.

How one does call a company that made Space Invaders, Qix and Arkanoid overrated?
Even later on they made some pretty cool games, like Power Blade series.
>>
>>12235406
The only Taito game hipsters care about is Space Invaders. They're hipsters; they only know about the most popular old shit. Ask them about something like Chase Bombers and they'll draw a blank.

I am surprised to admit that I enjoy Ikaruga after spending years believing the people who insisted it was overrated and that Treasure was unreliable. Now that I have actually played it, the polarity system makes sense to me and the stages feel more disciplined than I expected. The presentation, music and overall feel of the shooting and dodging polarity shifting is really appealing....wtf I haven't played a shmup in quite a while, and didn't plan to. I have a BIG backlog and this is disconcerting to be honest.

I find myself wanting to aim for a 1CC and even learn the scoring, which is awkward after dismissing the game for so long. It feels like I have to quietly reconsider my earlier opinions and accept that Ikaruga might be worth the effort after all.

Based. Don’t let the shmup “purist” contrarian autists dissuade you from enjoying verified ludokino. I recall it taking me around 80 hours to 1cc it back in the day
>>
Taito is great and the only people who care about it are turboautistic shmup enbys and middle-aged match-puzzle alcoholics. The real hipster company is Treasure or Cave if you prefer.

>>
>>12237741
>dislikes ikaruga
I don't dislike Darius too, but that doesn't mean its some holy grail of shmups.

Ikagura cucks are a clever bunch. They say, professional shmupers don't dislike Ikaruga (true), but when out of context they will spout shit like, the color mechanic is this legendary thing that changed everything.
>>
>>12237757
No, you're moving the goalposts and inventing strawmen.
>>
>>12237764
Nope, you were using a logical fallacy to prove your argument.
IF X THEN Y
and you used Y THEN X as your argument.
>>
>>12237773
What argument? Ikaruga is an objectively well made and extremely unique shmup, and it's chaining system, building on RSG, is arguably more innovative and unique than its polarity system.
>>
>>12237806
I don't argue with people who uses logical fallacy to prove their arguments. You can move on, and tell that to the other guy interested in Ikaruga.
>>
>>12237813
You just got filtered by routing. Ikaruga isn't a game you can enjoy by save stating through the game and pretending that you beat it. The chaining system naturally prevents that, which is why only people who actually play shmups for real like it.
>>
>>12237824
Again using logical fallacy, attacking the character without any tangible evidence.
I don't use save states, and actually own multiple arcade cabinet. Currently, playing Guwange on the actual PCB. Just go back to the guy you was talking previously. I honestly don't care about how good Ikaruga is.

Rayforce is an unironic 10/10 masterpiece game
>>
>>12238080
>generic uninteresting shmup #9001
wow
>>
>>12238090
Rayforce is anything but generic. It centers around an interesting lock-on feature and basically 99.8% of humanity gets wiped out by AI and you're on a suicide mission to destroy Earth. The game itself has chunky gundam style aesthetics and a pretty groovy upbeat soundtrack to highlight the pilot's resolve in the face of a hopeless and arguably pointless struggle. On stage 4 you literally split the planet open, its pretty fucking wild.
>>
>>12238110

You really don't help your case by falling for bait of that quality
>>
>>12238110
>lock-on feature
its a shitty gimmick that distracts from the regular shooting
>>
>>12238354
It's a great feature because the lock is a seperate hitbox from your ship and it's necessary for eliminating background layer targets, so it adds an extra element of movement beyond dodge and shoot versus the lock on feature in like clover or ketsui or something which kinda just exists passively. It gets you moving all over the screen very aggressively and intentionally, it's quite fun to play
>>
>>12237757
>the color mechanic is this legendary thing that changed everything.
Except it did? Ikaruga was the first shmup to show you don't have to build a game around trial and error memorization to make a challenge that still takes awhile to 1cc. Shmups before Ikaruga were flashy style over substance predatory garbage, after Ikaruga developers started to lean more into game philosophy and level design for their shoot them downs. Hope this helps.
>>
>>12235480
One of my favorite games of all time, I used to go to the arcade whenever I could get for free into the city bus and play two "tokens" after a while I was able to kill the boss in level 5 with one token, I never could CC'd it though. I've playing again and I'm to the 4th boss with one "token".
>>
>>12238470
Strawmanning is not an effective way to prop up arguments, Jewish behavior
>>
>>12238483
I've been routing it and so far I've got stage 3 really consistent and I can get through stage 4 without dying but it's really sloppy. Then stage 5 is just utter chaos. My last full run attempt ended getting punched out by the the giant gundam boss.
>>
>>12238503
That boss is a bad mf'er but I remember that after learning how to detect the rays coming from the shoulder and avoiding those you have that on lockdown.
>>
>>12235406
Are these "hipsters" in the thread with us, anon?
>>
>>12235480
>>made to showcase the new Taito F3 hardware with multi-layering and pseudo 3D that makes mode-7 look like an outdated piece of shit
You're comparing commercial use arcade hardware to a mass market home console. Not criticizing the F3, but you'd hope an arcade board of that era would be more powerful than the SNES (or any other home console of the time)
>>
>>12236043
I'm going to samefag to say I know them because the Touhou guy (ZUN) used to work there.

Only game that comes to mind when I hear Taito is Rastan. When I was a kid I used to wonder whether it was his last name. Rastan Taito. Had a nice flow.
>>
>>12235406
say that shit after you beat Takeshi no Chousenjou without savestates motherfucker
