>a news article is just a synopsis of a single youtube videoQuality journalism!
>>12236093thats funny calling it a "10 year study"bro just did a single dreamcast shell and forgot about it for 10 years and made a youtube video about it
>>12236093/tg/ bros to the rescue. Airbrush and paint (remember to thin your paints) and your retro consoles won't be yellow no more. >b-b-but my resale value!!!!It's fuckin' yellowed and old it has no resale value anymore and when everyone else's becomes brittle and shitty yours will be worth more anyways. Also.>muh resale valueFake collector fake gamer.
>>12236093anyone else kind of like the yellowed look? It's like a time capsule of comfy
>>12236304I had a hand me down computer back in the 90's and it was already yellow. Thanks, smoking dad.
>>12236093>a 10-year-olds study
>>12236093I hate the name “retrobright” like it’s a product when it’s just fucking oxyclean
I did like eight 10 years studies on this and 5 of those studies resulting in the item never turning yellow again. Must consult the bible on what this could mean. Something something fire retardants bromine and brittle confirmed in one of the chapters
Should be armor-all-ing them after getting them white again.
>>12236718That's because you live in a basement nigga.
why don't they put a clear coat on it to protect from further UV?
>>12236093Yeah it's a meme and it makes the plastic brittle too.>>12236304Collectors of all kinds appreciate a good patina.
>>12236093Just keep them from sunlight
>>12236304I have a bunch of underpants like that
>>12236304Kind of charming that gaming equipment ends up resembling an old book.
Guys I left my XBOX and my NES in a drawer for 10 years. Now the XBOX still works but the NES doesn't anymore.>A 10 year old study shows that the XBOX is more sturdy than an NES
>>12236304the aged look is time-appropriate. it's how things are supposed to look after keeping a console hooked to a tv for years.the bright white is unnatural. it's the fruit of keeping the thing hidden in a closet for decades, or chemicals.i have the same approach to scratches and other forms of light, exterior damage. it's part of the hobby. it's what something that has been used looks like.i used to chuck my old ps1 in a backpack to play it at my grandma's, and it shows.and i would never ruin it to make it look like a cheap chinese knock off reproduction case. you have to EARN that yellowing.
>>12236974this, i've always thought a weathered handheld shows that the owner loved it. i trace the grooves of the scratches in mine while thinking about my next turn in fire emblem
>bleach and UV fucks up plasticsWHOASTOP THE PRESSES
>>12236293>thin your paintsThis checks out. He is an official envoy from /tg/
>studies show
My Rockman & Forte is 7/8 normal and 1/8 orange somehow.
>>12238868kek, poor guy
>>12236271its a modern gaming news article so it was 100% written by a chatbot anon
>>12236293Most consoles have aftermarket shells available at this point. >>12236754Just use a satin clear unless you want it to shine.
>>12236304It doesnt really bother me, but I do wish I had a snes that actually looked the same color from when they were new.
>>12236093The fact obvious shill threads are allowed on 4chan in the current year will never cease to amaze me
>>12236093I recently de-yellowed my car's headlamps with one of those kits. They are a lot clearer now and I'm glad I did it, so maybe in another 10 years I can repeat the process and de-yellow them again. They may yellow faster, but there's just so much benefit with them closer to the original colors.
>>12236914You know you can bleach them? it's not like retrobrite it actually works.
