Should I bug a Sega Genesis? I am a small time collector, but money is very tight. Honestly I cant afford it, but every year the prices get higher. I really want to play Ecco the Dolphin and Desert Strike but I only have 1000 dollars to my name :(

I own a CRT, a NES, N64, PS1 and a PS2
>>
>>12237596
If you have money problems don't buy crap you can emulate
>>

You could probably buy a used Xbox 360 or PS3 and this game and play a lot of the good games on the system for under $100. That or just emulate

If you insist on owning actual hardware at least buy a flashcard or multicart. 16-bit games are just stupid expensive anymore and you'll waste a lot of money trying to collect them
>>
>>12237602
This, stop doing impulse buying. If I see people going bankrupt because they can't control themselves from buying overpriced video games you will still be really fucking stubborn and you will still be asking yourself 'How did I end up in this situation??'

For the love of fuck DO NOT buy it
>>
>>12237821
OR ANYTHING that is not essentials
I bought almost nothing except groceries this year and some clothes because mine were torn to hell

DO NOT buy anything you don't need

$50-$150 on ebay. prices for consoles really haven't got that high. just don't buy from losers trying to charge $200+ for old stuff.

>>12237872
If you're using a flashcart what is even the point of buying it? It's going to be emulated anyway
>>
>>12237596
Save your money, genesis emulation is excellent at this point.
>>
Sell the N64 and buy the Mega Drive with the money.
>>
>>12237876
Not in software, every enthusiast knows that hardware emulation is where it's at
>>
>>12237876
>a flashcart is emulation
no, you retard dumbfuck. that isn't how it works. they're still roms but served using a microcontroller instead of being in a fucking chip. my fucking god you losers on this board have no idea how anything works. fucking idiot.
>>
>>12237905
the roms are served from a chip that is programmed by a microcontroller, in other words a flashcart is emulating the functionality of a standard game cartridge. his argument is still retarded and comes from a failure to appreciate console gaming as a format though

It doesn't play any different between emulator or real hardware at this point. No one in the right mind thinks this looks better on crt. Now gtfo you enabler pos, you fucking cockroach excuse of a human, go back into whatever slimy shithole you crawled out of

I'll emulate for now and sleep on it for a few months. thanks anons

i need new tires for my car and other grown up shit. :( I just wanna play video games...
>>
>>12237905
Yeah a Flashcart is basically just a convenient way of combining the multiple game programs into a single source instead of having to swap out for every game. It's not emulation you're just condensing the library into a more efficient form

OP here, I think CRT's look better in an autistic way. I like knowing its what the devs were testing on, and what the graphics were built around

also i like watching 4:3 dvd's on it :)
>>
>>12237923
> flashcart is emulating the functionality of a standard game cartridge
not how it works, you fucking idiot. microcontroller acts exactly like a rom chip

>it gets file from card/usb/whatever
>copies it into its memory
>memory is connected to cart bus with exactly same electrical connections and read access times
functionally identical. it's not emulating anything. you spastics should have never dropped out of school at yr.5 to work as child prostitutes

Clinging to the opinion of some geriatric dad is evidence of bias against appreciating the classic console gaming format
>>
>>12237602
This.

It's an expensive hobby, do it with spare money. If you're struggling now, you should take any money that's left at the end of the month and invest safely, do it for a couple of years and then you'll be financially safe enough to spoil youself a bit more.

If you want to emulate, but feel a sense of accuracy, I'd recommend investing in a cheap Genesis styled controller, but nothing more.
>>
There's always an angry retard on these threads, what a pathetic fool.
>>
>>12237974
I think its a part of my ongoing rejection of reality. I dont like today. The games suck, the TV's suck, the programs suck. I want to to back.

unhealthy and retarded but its all been pre-2006 media all for me lately

I'm not too different from you, OP. I love the Genesis and wanted to collect it a while back, but then when I realized how much it'd cost to get it, in a decent condition, and a few titles I liked, nothing rare or anything, it'd still be an investment that, while I could afford, it's be money I'd probably miss eventually, money is difficult and, while emulation may seem a lame option, in the long run it's what made me love the hobby again, I've been playing so many libraries and it all rocks.
>>
>>12237962
The microcontroller acts as a CPU, not a ROM chip. Controller inputs pass through the game console and addresses the flashcart's CPU using the BIOS data you are required to load onto the SD cart, that BIOS data allows the flashcart's CPU to load games onto the flashcart's internal ROM chip. The CPU isn't the ROM chip.

The problem you have is thinking the word "emulation" is shorthand for "software emulation", that's not what was being said. The actual dictionary definition of emulation means "imitate", which in your own words is "functionally identical". Like I said earlier, hardware emulation is superior to software emulation and everyone who appreciates the classic console gaming format knows it.

I'll get into Genesis emulation tonight anon, thanks for hyping me up.

I can always snag one in ten years and just pop a flashcart in it. But right now I'm a broke 25 year old lol

Why has nobody recommended this yet? Great entry point for Genesis, OP could burn a copy and be able to play on his PS2 in no time.

there's a good emulator for the genny on wii, dunno how easy it is install there but i used it on retroarch and had no issues personally.

I plan on getting a Mega Drive and a Famicom Disc System early next year. Those are the last two retro home consoles I'd like to pick up.
>>
>>12237596
Posts absolutely reeks of zoomer.

To be very honest here: No, you should not buy it. Emulate it because you are broke and also stop driving up retro prices, you didn't even grow up with this or have it as a child. Stop ruining it for those who did and may have long since parted with their consoles.
>>
what are some good genesis games anyways

they're never coming down, anon. you had like 25 years to get a genesis for dirt cheap.

That's you, zoom zoom. You never owned one, You weren't even alive when it was around. You can go emulate it, seriously. No bother pretending you are in le 90's because the 90's was so much more than just video game, which were honestly much more limited part of it than you think, but you wouldn't know that, because you are a zoomer. Now save up your money because you probably have enough consoles but no savings.
>>
>>12243402
>You never owned one
You're not allowed to own things that you haven't owned before.

>You weren't even alive when it was around.
You're not allowed to own things that predate you.

You're not allowed to own things if a cheaper alternative to them exists.

Real bright, you are.
