How did RE4 look so good for 2005? Nothing else was nearly on this level especially for a GameCube title.

Well for starters, you're playing at 4K. The native resolution on the gamecube was 480p.

The models from that period of RE still look weird, especially the eyes.

MGS3/SH3 are obviously worse, but still on the "could reasonably be confused for a 360/PS3 release title" level. MGS2 & SH2 both have a quintessentially sixth gen console look to them and comparing them to the other three games is laughable.

Silent Hill 2 is particularly undeserving of its reputation for having amazing graphics for the time. It was certainly above average & made great use of its aesthetics & atmosphere, but I'm convinced that everyone who crows about its graphics are just confusing the pre-rendered cutscenes for real time.

It was new for RE, but that was in style at the time before the shaders and bloom effects brought back the colors.

Good art direction. I think it's a good example of how a realistic style doesn't have to be automatically dated and ugly with time, as some insist, because Resident Evil 4 still looks good.
