TR1 remake was just announced.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6JxVxSHjqE
>>12241451Do we really need another remake of Tomb Raider 1?
a fourth remake?nobody wants this
>>12241451So tired of PS5 games being allowed being retro but not a 192p handheld from 2004. I'm so fucking tired of this board. No wonder it's dead.
>>12241515They don't even let you talk about some remakes/remasters. I tried to talk about MGS3 Delta and my thread got deleted and I got banned(All I asked was what people were thinking about it.) I'm pretty sure FF7 Remake discussion is off limits too but that makes a little more sense because its basically a completely different game. Inconsistent rules is a vr staple.
>>12241515Look at the pinned post. GBA is allowed. We had a fun thread about 3D games on the GBA recently.
>>12241503Honeslty, yeah. Core was originally gonna do one where the creatures would actually chase Lara across the whole level instead of being unable to climb at all, and I'd hope this would be closer to that than Aniversary.
>>12241528GBA is 160p. The 192p handheld from 2004 is the DS. You know, that device released 3 years after the GBA, that it's barely a portable N64 that still uses bitmap fonts and sprites for most of its catalog.
>>12241536I'm glad we don't talk about DS, because it's something I could only enjoy if I bought the console. DS emulation on a single screen just screams WRONG in my brain.
>>12241552Yeah, what the fuck even is that thing? What's the other screen for? I've never touched one of these things and I can't imagine starting now. >>12241536So, I genuinely forgot that even existed. I didn't notice anything in that picture except the GBA stuff.
>>12241591>What's the other screen for?Maps and menus at your fingertips, visible all the time, without the need of pausing the game, mostly. It's pretty handy.
>>12241604Ok maybe. I should be more open minded. If the games actually used it well, I guess it fully realized what the dreamcast VMU was barely trying to do. An offscreen menu would have been really handy for a game like Link's Awakening. >fingertipsWas it always a touch screen, from the first version? I remember at least the later models having that now. You'd see kids with styluses out. Probably better for them than endless scrolling.
Not retro
>>12241503No, TRA is practically perfect for what a TR enthusiast would want from a TR1 remake.
>>12241612>Was it always a touch screen, from the first version?Yes, it was.>If the games actually used it wellTo be honest, during the DS era it really depended on the game. Since the touchscreen was a huge novelty in 2004, many developers—particularly Nintendo (for example, both Zelda games are controlled exclusively with the touchscreen)—were quite gimmicky in how they implemented it. By the end of the console's life, developers had realized that its real potential lay in serving as a secondary screen that complemented the gameplay. From the 3DS onwards—when the screens were no longer symmetrical and the action had to be placed on the main screen because the 3D stereoscope was the console's big selling point—the touchscreen was largely relegated to menus, maps, and, in general, anything that helped declutter the top screen, which imho is very great. And maybe I'm going too far, but note that the 3DS is a portable GameCube with 240p resolution. It also includes GBA and DS hardware, so you can play three console libraries natively. For me, it's more retro than Crysis, not to mention the OP game. Pic related is a port of Luigi's Mansion for 3DS that finally plays as it was originally intended for GC, in spectroscopic 3D, before they backed away from the idea.
>>12241451>"What if we remake (fill in blank), but alter it for our modern social and racial bullshit?"-every developer out there nowIt's tiresome. How about new games that fit the spirit of the classics? Nah. That requires thinking to create something new.
>small boobs and manfacemodern audience moment
>>12241535jfc leave and don't come back pleb
>>12241972The luigis mansion port sucks shit lol. It runs terribly even on New 3DS with an overclocked CPU, controls poorly, and is a visual downgrade across the board(worse textures/bad new ones, real time lighting removed entirely, effects on the ghosts removed/greatly diminished, the new Luigi model is soulless, I could really go on) and they didn't even fully port over the PAL hidden mansion. One of the worst "remasters" ever.
>>12241451Sovless
>>12242058>How about new games that fit the spirit of the classics?Such games come out all the time. Expedition 33 swept the Game Awards last night and is a loving tribute to golden era jarpigs, but with an identity all its own. You'd just prefer to bitch and moan rather than simply ignoring the latest remake slop.
>>12242256isn't everyone brown in that game
>>12242256>is a loving tribute to golden era jarpigsWhat the fuck is this supposed to mean? Seriously? What makes it a 'tribute' more than any other turn based Jarpig released in the last decade? Like, the parry/dodge system makes it far less faithful to the genre than basically anything lacking that, as none of those games let you time button presses to negate all damage.
>>12241515it is what is, unc
>>12241451The T-Rex never had feathers.
>>12242256Ironic or not, fuck off you fucking marketer nigger faggot shill. NOT FUCKING RETRO
>>12241506What there's four remakes of this?
>>12242363Nobody said it was retro, Prakesh. Do try to follow the conversation before replying. Message your English teacher if you need help.
>>12242384Because that was worth the bump.
this is dangerous. this is VERY dangerous man. we have a full generation of creative types that have done nothing but work on stuff from the past. they've done nothing but eat the shit coming out of the ass. they've had 0 room to express themselves. in a few years they're going to be in power and they're going to do the same thing that they were taught to do: cannabilize the past. you can see this in the film and music industries as well. they are going to be teaching the future generations.THIS is how civilizations die.
this looks AI generated
>>12241451But WHY does the T-Rex have feathers?
>>12242331>time button presses to negate all damageYeah, you'd never find that in a classic JRPG.Nobody on this board actually plays video games.
>>12241535Shut the fuck up>>12241506AnniversaryRemasterioS/AndroidNow this.
>>12242432>Yeah, you'd never find that in a classic JRPG.Exactly, in the game you posted there's no universal damage negation, attacks still damage you through your defense, which is the whole important point that is going over your head. Nobody is saying timed button presses is some new thing.
>12242256I hope by next year this game'll have left everyone's collective conscienceness. I'm so damn tired of seeing 3 to 4 threads of it on /v/ quite literally every day with zero discussion about the game that isn't waifufagging and flamewarring. It really doesn't matter how many meaningless vanity awards it won because it won't result in anything substantial from the industry down the line. Remember when Astro Bot was aggressively shilled and won last year? Nothing ever came of that. Sony doesn't care about its success to make platformers or remakes of older ones. Arguably maybe its lauded status spawned Bubsy 4D and whatever that knockoff badger Ubishit game was, but the majority of the VGAs was hero shooters, chink shit gacha, feudal era action slop, medieval Tolkien fantasy shit and sci-fi space games, much like last year, which is honestly insane to me.
>>12242441There are two options here. 1) You have never played Super Mario RPG.2) You somehow went the entire game without timing a guard correctly.I vote 1, because you'd simply HAVE to do it at least once by accident. Therefore we're back to nobody on this board plays video games. Thank you for outing yourself and proving my point.
>>12242453No one here's going to play your shitskin "J"RPG, frog nigger. Fuck off back to /v/.
>>12242167Compromises had to be made to run console games on handhelds. The port has its drawbacks, but it's perfectly fine. The same goes for Super Mario 64 DS. Naturally, it's better to play it with an analog controller, but in 2004 it was an acceptable enough port for a handheld, and added content. The same for the Super Mario Advance X series. Best way to play them, but with worse graphics and less screen real estate. For the 3DS, finally playing Luigi's Mansion in stereoscopic 3D was good enough for me.
>>12241503>>12241686TRA is a good/underrated game, but it suffers from 6th gen memory constraints, so you get those ugly loading screen hallways in the middle of every level, and Atlantis is a let down. You could do better. That said, I don't trust Amazon to make something even half as good as the Sands of Time clone we got in 2007. This style of platforming and why it's good is just totally foreign to modern game dev sensibilities.
>>12242256How much are they even paying you people to infect literally everyone with this movie gaem garbage?
>>12242058This remake is being made by the based Poles at Flying Wild Hog. It's the "new" game by Crystal Dynamics with Ms. Pants that's going to be filled with modern social bullshit and hand wringing over muh cultural appropriation.
>>12242331>What makes it a 'tribute' more than any other turn based Jarpig released in the last decade? It's the combination of a world map + AAA production value more than anything else. It feels like a game from a timeline where JRPGs were still treated like the marquee titles on their platforms, and not relegated to budget 2D handheld titles. Final Fantasy running away from all of its own genre conventions only makes the comparison more obvious.
>>12241451>dat post-wall nu-Lara againI will wait for the AI remake.
>>12242331Shut the fuck up already.
>>12241451Well I hope TRfags are happy after the decade long hazing they've received from feminists and SJWs calling them "le sexist", stripping away any "problematic" sex appeal in order to appeal to the very same subset of bullies, who weren't going to play her game anyway, by Hollyjewizing Lara into a real human bean instead of a male power fantasy blow up doll that dehumanizes and marginalizes women, but now they FINALLY got the Lara they've wanted and always was, albeit with reboot Lara with reduced tits. Hope it was all worth it. If you celebrate/give money to this, then you're a gullible faggot and should kill yourself. The political shoe may be on the other foot, but half-measured compromises like this only serves to dupe people into thinking the devs are """BASED""" and on your side, when in reality, they're following a trend and they'll just as happily take it all away again if/when there's another political shift. You either demand better from them or fuck right off and let it die.
>>12242672they never get the face right, despite a perfect model already existingthis is where i'd post a picture of posh spice if 4chan wasn't still doing that fake range ban bullshit to avoid mods actually having to fucking do anything
>>12242580It's by the based poles who recast Lo Wang in Shadow Warrior 3, which flopped.
>TombRaider: Legacy of Atlantis, co-developed with our talented friends at Flying Wild Hog, is a true reimagining of the original game.>We've thoughtfully refreshed the experience in exciting ways. Also built from the ground up in UE5, it features a gorgeous re-envisioning of iconic environments, immersive sound design, modern gameplay mechanics, and new surprises all while honoring the spirit of the classic.TLDR: Thoughtfully refreshed the classic balance of puzzle platforming and engaging combat, with modern magnetic auto-platforming action slop.
So we just have modern gaming threads now, not even trying to hide it anymore?
>>12243952This board is just /v/ now.
The trailer made me apprehensive. Clearly based on AC/Batman and other modern games. One of the things that makes TR 96 age so well is the playful jumping physics. You can do all kinds of crazy maneuvers with Saturn Laura. While AC-style platforming is much more scripted. There's something like animation canceling, but it's an unintentional mechanic, and unlike the Batman game, which is about gadgets and has the cape gimmick, this game seems to stick with the AC platforming style. With GH being the only thing that breaks this, I don't know if it will work like in Uncharted 4. If it does, it has some potential for creative platforming. But my problem is that it won't be like the 96 game. These AAA graphics will prevent them from coming up with this kind of playful gameplay, even though it has been proven that gamers are prepared to play things purely from a gameplay point of view. Also, the puzzles look boring.
>>12243952Newfag
>>12243991I've been here since day 1. There never was a rule that accepts remake. Secondly, half of modern gaming is nothing but remakes, this 'remake' looks nothing like the original, and the kind of discussion ITT is all about modern tomb raider and modern lara croft and brain rot posts you'd find on /v/. There is literally NOTHING retro about any of this.
>>12241536Utada <3
>>12242256this game is so ugly to me visually. i dont see the appeal at all.
>>12243990>But my problem is that it won't be like the 96 game. It'll be like Anniversary. It has a fucking Underworld wetsuit DLC. Why do so many Tomb Raider fans not realize that LAU is the obvious template for a "return to form", not the Core games?
>>12243901Wasn't it because of that trash RWBY show? He was doing it at the same time SW3 was being made.
>>12242256It's just a western made rpg. The japs did not invent turn based combat.
When is the best pirate game getting a remake?
>>12241515It's a marketer. /v/ is full of them after the game awards.
>>12242554But that isn't true. Could you perhaps be shitting on the old game to promote the new one.
>>12242256astroturfed faggot shit. tired of every game having the same exact """epic""" orchestra music. like the opening tutorial has that shit and its just a play fight with the girl. not to mention the lack of art design (no. having heads on rocks and muh randumb features does not excuse characters that look like fake pictures of real people)
>>12241451so they're taking half of the gameplay from the original and turning it into cutscenes. And id imagine there's zero chance we get to see cleavage or navel
>>12246502Are you guys at the "shit on the brand's older entries and the fans" stage of shilling already?
>>12241451>A remake of a remakeOr they could fire all the uncreative identity-politics goblins they have working for them, and hire people with fresh new ideas that both draw from the classics as well as inspire new games
>>12246564Probably never. And the thing is it really is the best pirater game made. It has treasure-hunting, land melee fights, and sea battles to make it the most well-rounded pirate adventure game made. My ONLY complaint is the lack of towns to visit. IF they remade it, then they could add towns where you'd find quests to seek out hidden treasures.
>>12246896Try reading the full paragraph, retard.
>>12241451>tomb raider>tomb raider anniversary (remake)>tomb raider remaster>tomb raider reimagination (lara with a penis)where do we go from here?
>>12241451>Remake original game that made the franchise famous because of her giant tits>Make her flat>Give her man shouldersLet me guess, pointing this out activates the shills
>>12242256I love how everyone pretends this game is revolutionary and was never done before, when just last year fucking mario of all franchises released a game with the exact same gameplay but everyone condemned it and called it trash
>>12247936Considering Amazon is the publisher, we're lucky they didn't make her black.
her tits are smaller
>>12241451It's pretty interesting that the 2010s Lara design existed just for that decade of video game feminism and classic Lara came back just in time for it to fall out of favor.
>>12242256I don't know a single person that played that game
>>12248293Means nothing, anon. I don't know a single person that played Call of Duty: Black Ops, but that game apparently sold a shitload of copies to dudebros that weren't in my PC gamer nerd circle.
>>12242429No idea. Only small therapods and those derived from them likely had any feathers. last I remember hearing they weren't even sure that larger raptors had any, much less t-rex.
>>12242404It probably is, by pajeets
>>12243910If FWH takeover has a chance to be a fun game. They are one of the best AA sloppers. Shadow Warrior could be boring, but it was much better than the original. Not that the original was a difficult bar to clear.
So what, now there is>Tomb Raider>Tomb Raider Anniversary (remake of 1 with ps2 graphics)>Tomb Raider Remastered (remaster of 1 with HD ps1 graphics)>Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (remake of 1 with HD TURBO PS5 GRAPHIX)Why do they just keep remaking this game? Has any other game been remade this many times?
>>12248430It’s the only good game in the series
Why they keep remaking Tomb Raider into an action game? Tomb Raider was a slow, methodical puzzle game.
>>12242337sybau
>>12247964considering how Bezos bent the knee there most likely will be an orange skin
>>12248430>Why do they just keep remaking this game?Woman protag
>>12242296no. there are some brown generic npcs that are copy/pasted for the town populace at the start, but you literally never seen them again after leaving the town. the only brown one that speaks also doesnt show up past the start either. >>12242568>>12246926why is it so hard to believe that people actually like this game? not everything you dont like is part of some boogeyman conspiracy>>12247939>revolutionaryno. just good when good is hard to come by lately. >marionobody gives a shit. mario rpg is fine and fun (but some of the changes in the remake made it easier than it already was). paper mario is dull and boring though. >i dont have any friends or talk to other people that play gameswe know. still not an argument though.
>>12248793because rooty-tooty point and shooty. if it doesnt have gun or ball, there is a massive amount of "players" that dont give a shit.
>>12248793> Slow methodical puzzle gameNigga, the game has time attack and is clearly a fast-paced 3D game. The controls seem clunky, but they are meant to be mastered. It's no wonder that no one likes the backtrack-heavy and more confusing level design. People like the free-flowing levels with branching paths.
>>12249556Not retro, fuck off
Why are her tits so small and her frame so wide?
>>12242256>mfw reading all the replies to this postI swear all the original /v/ posters fled here and modern /v/ is just a shitting street for retarded zoomers.
>>12249556>Doesn't know which mario game is being talked aboutI wonder why you don't why people to know that... Maybe because everyone would see the frog ue asset flip is not even special in what it's trying to do? Lmao, go back to /v/ shill
>>12249879what mario game is being referenced? to my knowledge, the only rpg games recently released was mario rpg remake, and ttyd rerelease. i dont remember if those released in the past year, or past 3 years, because my sense of time has been quite hazy lately, and i didnt play either of those since i played the originals. regardless, i addressed them both. nobody gives a shit about mario. theres nothing "revolutionary" about timed hits, and its only a small part of any game.
>>12242467fuck you negro, I will play it because I have GOOD taste, eat shit jeet.
