Nintendo considered them too expensive, as Rareware’s development was AAA-level costly. I don’t recall the exact timeline, but Nintendo owned about 49%, and Miyamoto reportedly pushed Rare to turn Dinosaur Planet into a Star Fox game, just to keep it from becoming an Xbox launch title. Despite having owned an N64 with Goldeneye and Perfect Dark, and having rented Diddy Racing a few times, I never took an interest in Rare's platformers during that period. What's best to play first, then, Conker or Banjo? I don't mind puerile humour.

One thing that has annoyed me through the game's first hour is the uncertainty of the accents. I'm guessing that the voice cast was entirely British, in which case it would have been wise of Rare to make Conker's animal kingdom a purely British one. Instead, we get a lot of Americanised characters voiced by Brits who can't do the accent convincingly. That's annoying, all the more so because it could easily have been avoided. Even Conker himself has this problem: sometimes he sounds English, but he'll often waver into a more American sound mid-sentence. Fucking hell, just pick one voice and stick with it.I know most 80s/90s cartoon shows with anthropomorphic animals were American, and Conker, modelling itself on those cartoons, aimed to have that same sound. But Rare should have been honest with themselves about the disappointing results and altered their approach to voice acting.

This part is fucking annoying. Swimming segments during this era of gaming were always bad news. I am also not liking the parts where you have to chase fast-moving NPCs and stun them with your frying pan before capturing them. They waste time and there's no real skill challenge there. Just have to keep swinging until you land a lucky hit.
