>Konamis classic 1981 shooter
>sets the rules for classic side scrolling shmups that everybody copied
>never mentioned ever
huh? this game should stand among the legends of gaming.
pay your respects here.

Every Gradius game with a flashback intro acknowledges Scramble as a precursor to Gradius. Now Super Cobra is a forgotten Konami title.

River Raid introduced a twist on the "shoot the fuel tanks to refuel" standard set by Scramble, by having you choose between touching the tanks to refuel or shooting them for points.

I'm more of a Defender kind of guy
>>

I liked that you could still hit fuel tanks as you were hurtling down after running out of fuel.

It's just Scramble hard mode

This is why everyone hates you. Well one of the many reasons.

I got insanely good at that game. Very cool how the caverns progressed with difficulty and how a good clear made escape easier.

This game on the Vectrex is awesome. Simple, but demands skill, timing, and precision. Probably my favorite on the system.

I am into the multiplayer more than most of you. Strikeforce was fucking badass.

Scorched earth got swindled by worms
>>
>>12243845
Scorched Earth wasn't all that original either, artillery games dated back to the 70s.
Worms was best on the Amiga IMO
>>
>>12242867
Ah so that's the actual cancerous game that ruined any hope of shmups being actually good
Good to know
>>

am I the only one who thinks Defender has too many necessary buttons and is badly designed?

Scrambles bombing precision actually mattered and is a skill in the game, the likes of R-Type and Graduis bombing just became button bashing fire and forget.
>>
>>12244502
It's not that bad, given that they were just figuring things out. It's the first side-scrolling shmup, after all.
I agree that thrust and reverse being mapped to buttons instead of the ship simply moving with left/right, like they eventually did in Strike Force, is a bit annoying.

its certainly the best looking version, my video doesnt do it justice you gotta see that vector screen in the flesh, its almost biological
