Is there a reason to still play the original when we have REmake?
Yes, it's better in every way except technologically. The original is designed around replay value and discovery, the remake is designed to impress first time players with no regards for how negatively the things it added or changed impacted replays.

They're surprisingly different experiences. if you wanna go even further, you can play the Director's Cut versions' Arrange/Advanced mode, which is probably the hardest difficulty in any RE game, at least as Chris

The later revisions of the PS1 game had a different soundtrack that is definitely worse. The remake assumes you know the mansion layout and puzzle logic and it plays off those preconceived notions. The changes are great, but they work better as a subversion of expectations. Plus you can beat the original in just a couple of days, so just do it.
