Is there a reason to still play the original when we have REmake?
>>
Yes, it's better in every way except technologically. The original is designed around replay value and discovery, the remake is designed to impress first time players with no regards for how negatively the things it added or changed impacted replays.

Yeah they're wildly different games
>>
It was good. And it was fun. I enjoy playing both, I just naturally play the originals 99% of the time.

It's a better experience anyway to play the remake after beating the original. They change many things around to mess with the player if you are too familiar with the original

I like the live action sequences too which are something I wish the sequels had kept using

No way, dude.

They're surprisingly different experiences. if you wanna go even further, you can play the Director's Cut versions' Arrange/Advanced mode, which is probably the hardest difficulty in any RE game, at least as Chris

excluding gimmick difficulties like invisible enemies mode

I played the remake first and enjoyed it enough to beat it several times, but these days I prefer replaying the original
They're different enough that neither of them makes the other pointless

That was my experience. The underground passage with the 3 Hunters is fucking brutal when you don't expect them

Maybe some bored hero will make a patch to remove most of the padding, that would be fun.

But doesn't it work the other way around too?
>>
do you even know where you are?
the original is a time capsule of its time
people play it BECAUSE it's old.
what a dumb fucking thread

Since the hack, the board has been filled with brown zoomers who hate the subject theme of the board and will only play 6th gen crap
>>

I suppose so. At any rate you should definitely play both at least once. Try to play the original release version of the 90's RE1 though if you can. The later revisions of the PS1 game had a different soundtrack that is definitely worse. It's unfortunately the only version available on the Playstation stores now.

Has anyone here played the PC GOG version? Which soundtrack does it have?

This, the remake isn't just a remake, it's a response to the original. The remake assumes you know the mansion layout and puzzle logic and it plays off those preconceived notions. The changes are great, but they work better as a subversion of expectations.
Plus you can beat the original in just a couple of days, so just do it.
