This game and Lords of Thunder are the only shmups I ever liked. Don't know really why, I just kept replaying them for years and years. I guess it's because they have some sort of progression and score actually means something? Maybe. Still, almost 30 years later and I can still remember the enemy placement by heart. Yes, they have a halth bar which in this game it varies depending on the pilot you choose. You get hit and you enter a danger state, any hit in this state will kill you. After a few seconds you get some of your health back.

Pretty good. I 2CC'd it once. Play it every now and then. It is very challenging, especially in the later levels. You will need to do *a lot* of very tight maneuvering and dodging.

It actually has nothing to do with the UN, it's based on an anime called Area 88, about mercenary pilots. Due to licensing issues I assume, it was renamed in the US. Rare very good licensed game and also extremely rare very good licensed shmup but also rare Capcom shmup. All in all a unique game.

The FAMAS is a pretty sweet looking rifle, only made sweeter by putting a knife at the end of the barrel.

The only hard part is the cave level ceiling boss. The game is a piece of cake outside of that part. No need to memorize patterns or anything.
